    Let's have some fun and talk about Disney Pixar's Coco and the mystery of the alebrijes/spirit animals, and why we see almost no kids in the movie.

    1. The skeletons were freaking out because Miguel was inside the land of the dead and because *he could see them*
    2. I think Dante turned into an alebrije because he proved he was worthy of guiding spirits when he tried to tell Miguel that Hector is his great great grandfather but still goes back to the living world because he's not dead,remember they guide spirits, so I don't think it was a punishment.
    I've seen this movie literally 20 times.

      I have a theory that those pets might have been buried with a human, and this is why they appeared in this form. After all, being burried with your pet is not common - like seeking animals in sceletal forms - but it happens

    Dante is a Xoloitzcuintli,
    I googled it and found that indigenous peoples believed that the Xolo would safeguard the home from evil spirits as well as intruders. In ancient times the Xolos were often sacrificed and then buried with their owners to act as guide to the soul on its journey to the underworld.
    You could say the Xoloitzcuintli, are no stranger to "the underworld".

    xolo dogs are known to be guides to cross the land of the dead/land of the living border. it was once though you couldnt even pass the border without one of those dogs,and the filmakers says they were inspired by that, so its canon. but your theory holds up well for the other animals as well :)

    Animals dead or alive can be spirit guides. Someone told Miguel when he denied Dante was a spirit guide that they take many forms

    Hey, I thought you might be interested in going through and either playing or watching a playthrough of "The Path" and making your own theory on it. There's a lot of different psychological aspects of it and it's really cool and I want to see your point of view on it all.

    The “living dog” is not big deal cause it’s a Xoloitzcuintle (Xolo: Mexica God of the life and the death; itzcuintli: dog) the dog of the god Xolo, the only dog that can go to the Mictlán (land of the death) and come back alive, in fact they used to buried them with their owners, so the xolos can guide them to reach the Mictlán, the legend also says that the number of spots they have is the number of souls they have helped to go to the Mictlán.

    my idea about the pets and animals is that a lot of times animals are thought to be able to see ghosts and whatever. maybe that ability just makes it easier for the animals to go back and forth to the spirit world and the ancestors in the land of the dead are used to seeing living animals.

  • @ColoredMud

    There are no skeletal pets (unless you count the fact that Ernesto's chihuahuas were going to be skeletal in the first draft) but there are skeletal horses.

  • @sailorearth2007

    Well the first part makes sense and would explain the loss of kids but the animals thing...the idea of a spirit guide is a big thing in the culture and even used in other shows like Elena but not sure it's a punishment...also I think the skeletons were freaking out after seeing Miguel because normally the crossing over on DOD is just from their perspective...the living can't see them even though they can see the living (the final song shows this perfectly as does Miguel's initial trip where all the dead are finding their altars but their families don't see them at all nor notice any offerings just vanish) so seeing a living boy in the LOD would be a scary to them as seeing a living skeleton in the real would would be scary to the living

    Well, I don't know, but I don't think THAT chicken has been cursed. Maybe it was an evil chicken, but not to the extend to curse Dante because of a reason that happended way before he was born.
    I don't think your theory it's right. Miguel was sent to the land of the dead because he stole a guitar that has a conexion with a curse his family has since Héctor left Imelda and Coco. Remember the opening words of the movie: "Sometimes I think that I've been cursed by something that happened way before I was born". So, it was not just the fact that Miguel took the guitar, but that guitar was stolen by his great great grandfather's murderer; otherwise he would been send to the land of the dead the moment he took that chicken from the grave.
    I mean, it takes more than just stealing from the dead.

    Now this does not go with this theory but I think this theory is worth me telling you, so my theory is that the movie all ready told you that hector was killed by that other dude (don't know his name) so near the medal of the movie hector started playing a song to this guy that was being forgotten. After the man gets forgotten there's a little bit of talking but than the camera pans over to 2 glasses of alcohol, one full and the other empty and up side down. The one that is full represents the guy that killed hector and the one that's empty and up side down represents hector. This has to be true because why would they pan over to the glasses if it did not mean anything.

    Dante actually turned into a spirit guide cause he ate the face paint when Hector turned miguel into a skeleton. He started tripping out. Then he “died” and turned into a spirit guide. But was able to go back to the land of the living as a normal dog. Just like Mama Imeldeas alegebrea (sorry i dont know how to spell it) came back to the land of then living as a normal cat.
    Note: This is my theory and not a hate comment:) also i may not have been listening when she said stuff about Dante turning into a spirit guide.

I don't know if you said this in one of your videos but I find it interesting that in the movie you could see a praying mantis a couple of times. • @shadowpuppet8192
    @shadowpuppet8192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey! I have a theory regarding Miguel's family. Or rather papa Julio. I have a theory that papa Julio was mama Coco's husband. Even though in the prologue the man who we're shown looks nothing like Julio. But then again, the man in the prologue who was supposed to be Hector looked absolutely nothing like him either. And in the beginning, when Miguel greets Coco she responds with 'How are you, Julio?'. An old woman with fading memory would look to her husband for comfort, not her son-in-law. Further more, if Julio was Elena's husband he wouldn't be referred to as papa Julio but instead abualito.

      Hopefully with the second movie they clarify more, since even if Imelda is Miguel's great great grandson, Miguel and many of the undead relatives refer to Imelda as Mamá Imelda even when speaking to Miguel (which doesn't explain who are what to who, 'great great' to Miguel) as well as Miguel saying Mamá Coco instead of bisabuela at any point or bisabuelo to anyone else.

    I think for the kids, most people die as adults, so there wouldn't be as many kids anyway. If they do honor different days for the movie, then having the only kids shown with their parents makes sense because, as the dad at the office says, that's a lot of ofrendas to visit and the parents don't want to make the trip twice 😅.

  • @popcornpages4335
    @popcornpages4335 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ayyy another Coco video! It's quickly becoming my favourite Pixar movie! I thought you'd like to know that there are actually animal skeletons - in the Plaza De La Cruz scene when it's montaging over different acts, it shows someone coordinating multiple skeleton chihuahuas in different notes - they are NOT alebrijes, however the chihuahuas at Ernesto's palace place were, so I assume it goes with their literal name: Spirit Guides - i.e. I think they have to guide a soul in some way before they can become an alebrije.
    Also, Pepita's name means Nugget and I thought that was adorable

  • @rentheadangelcollins
    @rentheadangelcollins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I REALLY want a world-expanding sequel or something...Like, animals can become Alibrijes, or skeletons(the singing dogs in the competition scene, and the horses in the "I have a great-great-grandson!" montage). Humans can ONLY be skeletons, however. Why? I mean, I know in Mexico, Alibrijes are made only to resemble animals, but it's still something to think about. And then there's all the questions they could answer about the world. What happens the rest of the year in the Land of the Dead? I know that in Mexican culture, it all becomes basically "nothingness", but maybe that's not the case. And what's so special about THAT day? IF people were to lay out petals all year round, would the dead still be able to cross? Could we maybe see someone appear in the Land of the Dead after they'd died? DO they appear in the Land of the Dead? Or do they have to be led there by an Alibrije within a certain amount of time, or be lost forever? There's a lot of stuff they could still do with it. I'd love to see what they do if they try it.
