Today we have a 2007 Jeep Compass 2.4l with a P2004 code for the intake runner being stuck. The customer installed a new intake manifold with a new intake runner control actuator. Let's see if if we can diagnose this issue together.

11:12 My intake manifold flap has exactly that much play in it, I was wondering if it was enough, but you showed it isn't. Thank you.

It's actually enough, that small turn as it extends via the connector increases the amount of angle to the flap

I worked on the exact same year jeep patriot same engine same problem. If I remember right back then Jeep had a TSB stating to replace the whole unit. There was a known problem with the vain inside the intake getting stuck.

This was a brand new intake manifold the customer put on.

@@RobertDotterer He probably put a no-name one on. If Chrysler can't manufacture one correctly, I'd hate to see how bad the knockoff ones are.

My dad's 15 Ram 2500 6.4 4x4 Auto trans went out. Can't buy from dealer. Used is 2-3 grand. He had it rebuilt and beefed up with stronger internals, pistons, etc. Nothing crazy but just aftermarket better all around rebuild. Cost him $8 grand. For a tranny rebuild. Buddy's patriot knocked and blew up. Found a used engine for $1200. I was looking at this fukkin set up and saying Why? Why do we need this? Dad also bought a 07 ram with Cummins back when new. Ran like a scalded dog. I was very impressed. Then 1 day power dropped alot. I hook up shops 9 grand snap on scanner and said well I know what happened. Those turbos are VGT style. Variable geometry so the vanes in turbo do what these things do, when urr low rpm vanes close to catch more air, less lag, when highway driving they open up, or opposite can't recall. It was covered by warranty then so wasn't his $$ but still was over 3 grand. Wtf? I've towed ppls autos with bad starting, charging etc and they stuck in park, can't get E brake off cause its a button, not cable and pedal like it was, battery buried under plastic, air box, etc. 19 kia had bad Alt. So I popped the plug for shifting to N, ok all good, put jump box on, had key on cause I had running and effin doors locked cause shifter was moved from park, sitting still. Wtf? These engineers come up with some of the best stuff ever, BUT also the worst shit ever at same time. All should have to wrench and tow for a year B4 designing. And plastic intakes, vanes, sensors, etc is a joke. For what they cost, jeep patriot 2.4 intake 363.00 shop cost, should be metal.

That extension on the runner valve is not supposed to come off with the valve. It's supposed to snap into the manifold, so it was probably turning freely

This is an aftermarket Dorman manifold so I think it's made different. Also I couldn't turn the extension.

I’m pretty sure there’s a reprogramming for the pcm to

There wasn't any TSB's when I looked it up. Also in thr video I showed it was phusically jammed

Awhile back my neighbor had the exact same issue on a Chrysler Put a new actuator on exact same issue. I asked if he wanted me to pull the intake and he said no. I reset the light for him but eventually it came back on even though he told me he replaced the intake so he told me. Then he sold it. Good ridden. 👍

I figured this is pretty common since they make the intake for it. I am assuming the customer put the intake on with the flaps rotated and jammed them. I've seen this on other cars too.

Maybe you can check on you tube to see how it is supposed to work
