  • How to replace an intake manifold runner control valve, and check a few things on a Patriot. Also called an Intake flow control valve. Don't know why they call it a valve, when it is really an actuator, or a motor. This is also the same valve for Dodge Caliber 2007-2012, Avenger 2008-2009, Journey 2009-2010, Compass 2007-2013, Chrysler Sebring 2007-2009. 2011 07 08 09 10 11 12 13

too much air makes it run rich, smelling strong of gas, especially at exhaust cause of unburnt fuel, too little it will be lean. all this has an effect on other. If u run it too lean it can blow engine from unburnt gas washing down pistons n cylinder walls with gas. It is not good to run it too long neither lean or rich.
Yes most times it's a sensor or connection, ground etc. Always start simple. But don't just shotgun parts or load parts cannon and fire. I see this alot and ppl complain about cost of parts but just buy so many they don't need its their own fault. It's not hard to figure it out if u learn how whatever system works. Evap, fuel, etc. Once u understand how things operate, u will have a better idea what's going on. There's been alot of advancement since the 1st engine, but at the end of the day all work same, Suck, Squeeze, bang, blow. They use some type of fuel, mixed with air compressed in a cylinder and exploding from that like a diesel, or by spark plug, then burnt fuel leaves through exhaust. All these systems are just what monitors, changes, manipulate, how it runs and sends that info to computer and when a wrong reading of voltage, pressure, leaks etc it sets off a light in dash. Now if that light flashes that's bad so pull over and don't drive. Better safe than sorry. Just replaced a jeep compass 2.4 engine. It was used and $1200.00. No sensor costs that in that motor. If u have to get a used part. But don't just ignore a flashing CEL. Yes it can set off other codes. The tps, iac, map, maf, O2, air fuel, etc. All talk to 1 another thousands of times a second. A guy brought in 18 gmc with 1 n 3 cylinder misfire. He let it go a week n cost him a 2 grand cat system, plus tow, plus diag to find issue and fix the pin in connector that was loose. Simple issue made worse by not fixing sooner.

I'm having issues with several codes related to this thing and I have already replaced the actuator. I followed flowcharts to troubleshoot and everything checks out, which leads me to believe that it is a bad PCM. The engine light sometimes goes out so I want to say It is a wiring fault that is intermittent but the wiring is fine whenever I check it. The only idea I have left is to bypass the harness and wire the valve directly to the PCM but the connector is hard to reach for splicing. Does anyone know where to get the harness connector for this so I can make a separate bypass for it?

I had problems with this car after doing this job. Ended up replacing the intake manifold with a factory mopar mail order part from rock auto, because the butterfly valve was sticking intermittently, and it ruined the new actuator. Havn't heard from them since. The check engine light will go off after x-amount of cycles if the pcm cannot find a problem. Some poster here also mentioned something about a ground issue, that I know nothing about.
