I just got the Gen 3 Katana 100 and I LOVE the way it sounds especially with the new update. Works great for my gigs.

The ultimate guide to the GT-1000 on the Boss site states that you should turn off the cab modelling on the GT-1000 when connecting to the MKII via the loop or power amp in. I’d expected this to be done automatically when you select these outpost option. I’m waiting for my unit to arrive to check this . Here’s the quote from the Boss guide, “If you own an amp from the BOSS Katana MkII series, you can use the handy Power Amp In function on your amp to amplify the GT-1000. Connecting to the rear-panel Power Amp In jack bypasses Katana MkII's preamp and effects, letting you tap straight into the Tube Logic power section, complete with grab-and-go Power Control. It's important to remember that Katana amps have a guitar-voiced speaker (i.e. not full range like a PA), which means you should turn off the cabinet simulation on the GT-1000 when using it in this way.”

That’s not a hard set rule though, you need to use your ears. If the volume is lower or muffler in any way due to having the Cab sim on, then turn it off. But if it’s better sounding or fuller and you like it, then keep it on. I know my Peavey Bandit likes the Cab sims on going into its “power amp in.” But it is a old Red Stripe version, I think they could well be made with a flatter response.

I was wondering if the stereo expand feature on the 100 watt version worked with the effects on the gt100 to make them sound even better or is it just for when you hook up a second amp to the main one? I have the 50 watt version and hooked a Boss e-band into it and the effects sounded amazing and sounded like stereo coming out of one speaker! I don’t know if it’s worth buying the 100 for just the added presence control and the stereo expand features.

I have a 100 MK2 and may use what you demonstrated here to play around with, but, I plan on on hooking the core straight into a pair of powered studio monitors with 10 inch speakers. Hopefully, the Core will sound good through the monitors, I really need to hear my presets in stereo. Headphones are cool for the stereo effect but seem very hard on the ears after a while.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing such variety of great content! I'm watching many of your videos and trying to figure out the best output setup for me. I've got a Boss Katana 100w MK2 and just bought a Boss GX-100. I'm really happy with the sound I'm getting straight from the GX-100 but not vibing what I'm getting when I connect it on the Katana (sounds distorted even on clean/acustic mode and flatten the controllers). I'm intending to use the Katana just as a speaker from now on and leave all the heavy lift tones/effects with the GX-100. I wonder what would you suggest/recommend as the best output setup for this? Connecting the GX straight into the input Katana input? / 4 cable method? / Something else? Thanks again and appreciate your attention. Cheers mate!

Is a Katana mini the same as other Katanas? I will mainly use the gtcore with headphones, but if I were to connect to a mini would I still have to turn the amp sims off? As I would rather use the mini as a speaker for the grcore rather than as an amp, if that makes sense.

When I plug the gt1000 into most amps return it sounds terrible even if I select the correct output from the menu. This happens even with the Katana MK1. I tried turning off the virtual mic in the Aird section and it was better but not quite right. Do you have any suggestions?

Do you think the Katana Artist adds any additional tone? Does the speaker make much difference?

    • @-_OduvanchiK_-
      @-_OduvanchiK_- 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have Artist & my father bought a 50EX recently. Our observations showed that on the same patch Artist has more body (or mud if you want to call it like that) in its tone, more mid frequencies, especially lower mids & more punch due to that. While 50 sounds more defined (or thin if you want to call it like that). So it's all goes down to your preferences. I like Artist speaker more because it is easier to get rid of those mids if you don't need them than trying to add what is not there for a 50 speaker.
P.S. We could get that low-mid punch on a 50 only with modifications to its cabinet. We make it more closed & it started to kick on those palm mutes

The latest version of the GT-1000 software, Ver 3.14, includes output options for all of the Katana MkII amp power amp in options EXCEPT for the Artist MkII. I own the GT-1000 and the Katana Artist MkII. So far, it seems the "Katana 100 112 MkII Power Amp In" seems to work the best for the Katana Artist MkII. Make sure your GT-1000 is up to date.

I recently cycled through Line 6’s HX Stomp and PodGo before exchanging for a Marshall DSL40 (my firsts tube amp), and calling it a day. I want to play a real amp above all else, and retain that feel of raw power and sound while I play. The L6 products did NOT sound good through my FX loop, or any other way.
Now that I’ve got a great tube amp that I love-I had also tried a Katana in my journey for tone-I am still wishing to add some tonal variety, possibly alternative amps, and definitely effects into the mix. I liked the Katana’s effects, so it seems logical I may like the GT1000, and their AIRD tech sounds promising as it claims to work intuitively even when plugged into a real traditional amplifier. Is this going to be a let down a la L6?
I’m either going to buy a Katana Artist MKII, the big ass foot switch, and run it alongside my dry Marshall with an ABY pedal, or get the GT1000 to augment my Marshall.
Which sounds like it’ll be better? I’ve also thought this option is better because I could do the wet dry thing, and have a second amp that is far more versatile with its true modeling approach to add into the overall sound with my Marshall.
I’m looking to hit many birds with one stone. Down the line, yes, I’d rather have the real amps, and the real pedals, but for the short-long-term I’ve got the means to either grab a Katana, which I did like, or a GT1000. I love delay, modulation like flanger/phaser, and want looping ability. Both appear to have these. Please help me! 😁
For the record I have mics like SM57 etc, and I do like to record, but as I’ve said the recording bit is secondary to in-the-room tone. I am a millennial, but I favor the traditional amplifier sound and feel. I can’t do headphones unless I’m strictly recording. I’m not inspired much while jamming through a studio headset. I don’t have any flat response speakers.
Many many thanks if you actually read this, and thoughtfully considered my dilemma. Thank you.
