This is a really good explanation on how this unit works ....... actually, the best I have seen or heard yet! I'm glad this focuses strictly on the unit itself and not the editor/tone studio. I hate relying on computers to program simple patches. Well done.
Thanks Ben. I was trying to work it out from the manual and just getting confused. Makes such a difference to watch someone demonstrate as you have. Very helpful!
It’s 26 January, 2024 as I comment. I don’t own a GT-1000 Core yet, but it is a temptation. One appealing feature of the Core is how it can display more or less everything on its screen that can also be accessed in the software. As a legally-blind musician, it would likely be more advantageous (for me) to focus on the software. The saving grace is having the option at arm’s length of not needing to plug into the computer to access its parameters or save patches. I didn’t have that luxury with the last modeler of this type that I purchased, the Line 6 Pod HD 500. I’ve watched multiple reviews and overviews of this unit. One thing which I imagine can’t be done but would be neat if it did would be if I took the intermediate modeler that I purchased circuit September 2018, the Boss ME-80, and could use it as a foot switching device for Core. Even though they both come from the same company, they probably can’t communicate with each other.
I’m on day 3 trying to figure out the looper. I have the Fs-5L I was told i was needed. And I’m just trying to set it up so the CTL 1 button starts and ends the loop and the 5L plays the loop or vice versa
Very useful walkthrough about the core! I am considering one for my pedalboard, currently running the IR-2 but looking at this as a cool option to downsize my board by a few fx pedals...
I just bought one GT 1000 Core and I'm kinda struggling to find the perfect tones. Your video was very helpful thanks for sharing! Looking forward for the Ultimate guide video
I want to love the GT1k Core. I love its features, but have had horrible issues with noise and degradation of signal using it in 4cm with my EVH Stealth. As soon as I engage the loops it gets a loud high pitched whine and terrible noise added to the signal. It isn't gound loop. It doesn't happen if I run direct from the core's output into the front of the am- only with the loops engaged. Built in noise gates don't help. Odd thing is if I add a mastering fx block (only works on the rock setting) then all that noise disappears. I gooogled the problem and I'm not the only one - the forums were filled with people with the same issue. I want to love it but if I can't figure out and fix the issue I think I may have to move away and try out the Fractal.
Hi Ben. I have a boss core on the way. Plus an eventide micropitch. Going to be using Yamaha HS5 monitors using the boss gt1000 as my amp. To connect stereo using my fx loop do I send into input on the eventide and out back into return ? Do I use a TRS cable to go in eventide ? Sorry for long question Ben Regards Si 👍🏻
Bass player here..Is it possible to bypass all effects and just run the tone of my amp until I need to click on the effect? Having trouble figuring this out.
Is it possible to use the GT1000core without the amp and cab simulator? Because I would like to have my real amp sound when the GT1000core is turned on or off. I would like to use the GT1000core for effects only, like chorus, phaser of reverb in manual mode. So when I use an effect, for instance a chorus.. I would just like to hear the chorus going true my amp. So no amp and Cab simulation included.
Mr. Rowlands, I have a question. How do you set one button on the core, for momentary push, to alternate slicer rate. Say you want one rate at 25 another at 58. One push and hold, rate at 25, a concurrent push and hold at 58?
I've looked through the manual online and cannot find the answer to my question, so maybe what I'm asking here is not possible. However, I thought I would ask here for anyone that knows the unit well enough to know for sure. I'd like to program one button/switch to activate 2 events at once. The events would be 1) amp channel switch and 2) patch change. Basically all I want to do is switch from a rhythm tone patch to a lead tone patch and have my amp also switch channels when going back and forth. I'm guessing IF this is possible, it would need to be done using 'MEMORY Mode'. Patch +1 (up) would also need to trigger the Amp Control channel switch function, OR could the patch itself execute this when it loads? I'm trying to switch my amp channel AND (Up) +1 User Patch with only ONE action. Then, the same when executing (Down) -1 User Patch with an Amp Channel switch. Thanks in advance to anyone with answers.
The BOSS foot switches mimic regular mechanical switches. The reason they look more complicated is because BOSS ended up using opto-couplers as switches which then let's them change the polarity (i.e. if the switch is normally on when the pedal is not pressed or if it is normally off) and if it should behave like a momentary switch, meaning the switch is on while the pedal is pressed but off otherwise, or as a toggle switch, where one press turns the switch on and the next one will turn it off. If you want to make your own switches, you need a TRS (stereo) jack, and two momentary, normally open switches. You can then connect the tip and the ring to the sleeve using 2 switches. (One for the tip and one for the sleeve) When you press a switch, either the tip or the ring will be electrically connected to the sleeve, and that is what the unit will sense. However, depending on what you want to use the switch for, you might need latching switches that toggle between two positions. Momentary switches should be good for things where you need a press, like tap tempo. Something like the stomp box mode will probably need latching switches because you want the effect to stay on/off when you release the footswitch.
Can the Core provide 2 discrete signal flows? For example, dual (physical) amp setup. FX loop sends of the 2 individual amps to inputs 1 and 2. Send signal through a series of stereo FX without summing or blending. Dual signal paths out via output 1 and 2, back to the 2 amps FX loop returns. Or feed the stereo inputs with line outs from both amps and have discrete, stereo/dual mono signal paths?
So, first- thank you for creating this video- it helps a lot. I have to confess... I'm feeling pretty stupid over here. I'm integrating this thing into a pedalboard. It seems like it's always on and there's no way to bypass it except creating a 'blank' patch? I'm really hoping I'm missing something because not being able to bypass the unit in a signal chain is kind of ridiculous- and even if the blank patch method is the official bypass- how do you get there quickly enough to suddenly turn the pedal off without scrolling from 60+ effects away?
I just got this last week. I don't know if this helps but....I was wondering the same thing. When you switch on tuner mode you can set it to "thru", which I guess is as close to bypass as I can figure.
Ok... i dont speak english very well but i have a question. Can i use footswitch number 1 for turning on more than 1 effect? For example: Fs 1 turns on Drive and Chorus, Fs 2 Turn on Reverb, Delay and Fs3 turns on booster, eq? So, it would be like 3 Ctl footswitchs i think. I know i can use memory mode for that and going up and down and also having a specific Ctl for each preset but... i would like to have a simple configuration.
I think he accidentally used the wrong footage at 4:45 for the amp control function, it shows him plugging it into the Send of the amp which is incorrect, it should plug into the footswitch input obviously, for anyone that might have been thrown off by that.
Love your videos, they are always informative and to the point. I'm not that clued up on effects processors so I just wondered if you know the answer to my question. I love the size and sound of this processor and want to use it for gigs. Say I had 20 patches numbered 1-20. If I want to drop a new patch in the middle at 10, will all the above patches re-number accordingly? so number 10 now becomes 11, and number 11 now becomes number 12 and so on? or will the old number 10 simply be erased? Thanks very much for your help mate!
I have a couple questions; first, where can I find the default Master EQ settings? I mean, I know where to find them but what are they supposed to be? Second, did you purchase those glasses by choice or were they the last frames left on the shelf? I'm asking for my 90-year-old grandmother.
My BOSS GT-1000 CORE Ultimate Guide is now available: www.benrowlandsmusic.com
You demonstrate it in a clear and comprehensive way. Congrats. You are a great communicator

Got mine a few days ago and I’ve been watching this video on repeat! Great work - I look forward to the ultimate guide!
Thanks for that great vid. I just had my GT-1000 core delivered yesterday, and you have got me up and running with it.

I'll definitely watch the next one !
Been looking for a video on how to find and use the looper on this?
I was wondering if it's actually possible to make the CTL as a Tap tempo for delays ?
Very useful walkthrough about the core! I am considering one for my pedalboard, currently running the IR-2 but looking at this as a cool option to downsize my board by a few fx pedals...

IMHO these are great snaps.....😂 .thanx for the video ...
My core arrived on Dec 24 th love this unit --thanks for the videos -I'm using this in ProTools --please do a recording video soon

What is the "Saving..." informatoin at the top on the right side when switch?
Great video, I have had this unit for a year and I've been a bit intimidated.

Thank you Ben most helpful.
Is there a way to have the footswitches fixed at PATCH PATCH PATCH. Just so can only use three patches and go between them as i wish

If the answer is in your video series that I need to purchase, please let me know.
You use the matrix assign to do that...
How can we change the banks,,, suppose im on patch 1 and my second tone is on 7..so how can we get onto that 7th no. tone while playing it live????

Can you play along with songs on your phone by connecting to the return 1 or return 2 on the gt-1000 core?
I bought this too. And i tested sound. Um.. When I turn on the compressor, it makes noise. Are you same?
Excellent tutorial!
Does it support all kind of footswitches or only BOSS footswitch? And please make a video using stomp mode with your favorite pedals...

“My previous guitar processing unit.” So the GT1000 core compares favorably to the kemper in sound?
Sure does! GT1000 Core sounds great!! My go to Guitar Unit at the moment!
nice video sir

Great overview of the Boss GT1000-Core. nicely explained !! Have you tried running real pedals with this unit like delay - chorus or reverb? Thank You

Yes, you have 16 available assignments per pedal. So, you could enable several effects via one footswitch in manual mode.
@@markharley99 Thank you!

love u ben
How do I turn the gt1000 core off?
...I may have missed it,Sir,but can it run "parallel" effects?...Thank you...Peace...
There are 3 dividers available within your chain. These can be used to run parallel routes.
Can wet/dry or wet/dry/wet?
Thank you

This thing is more hard to work out than any computer or laptop top or any phone. Maybe we will be able to fly a rocket ship what U think.

Take a shot every time he says "Boss GT-1000 core". 👍
Great..the first video on product the guys high on speed
I bought a GT-1000 with two Alto 12” cabs today. Show me the way, Master.
So this video has all the stuff you can figure out by messing around for the first hour and if you wanna learn more you gotta pay 70 dollars?
Why so serious?😂
