    I'm loving the GT1000 Core with the ES-8 as the hub of my pedalboard... The Core is the biggest bang-for-the-buck pedal out there with most of the 500 series and the OD-200 overdrives packed into it... I like it most for how it handles my accoustic electric guitars...

    This method is different than what’s shown in the manual (route FX S|R -> Amp R|S).. when I use Boss’s method on my Mustang GTX I don’t get any audio at all.. using your method I get the CORE sound from my amp but aside from Master Vol , none of the other Mustang knobs or FX alter the audio output. I’ve always been a basic amp + guitar player and first time using sophisticated FX gear so it looks like I need to look at the Mustang signal chain and see where the FX Loop sits.. enjoying your vids and enthusiasm.. production quality top notch !

      Definitely do not connect SND/RTN to Amp RTN/SND.
      Boss SND to Amp IN...sends signal to your amp input, but only if the Boss SND/RTN block is turned on, and it only sends signal from the active Boss blocks in front of (to the left of) the SND/RTN block. The Boss blocks after the SND/RTN will go to the amp FX loop, or all the signals will go to the amp FX loop if you turn the SND/RTN off.
      Also check if your amp loop is series or parallel...if it's parallel you will have some sort of FX mix/blend knob. If it's parallel, know that it's not very practical to split the signals between amp in and loop because you have to set the blend right, and then if you change volume it's got to be balanced again.

    Even more. You can use BOSS's effects in front of external preamp - like Wah, compressor, pitch shifters and digital boosters. Not the most effective way to boost the valve preamp, but it takes effect close to one active pickups do.

    I recently cycled through Line 6’s HX Stomp and PodGo before exchanging for a Marshall DSL40 (my firsts tube amp), and calling it a day. I want to play a real amp above all else, and retain that feel of raw power and sound while I play. The L6 products did NOT sound good through my FX loop, or any other way.
    Now that I’ve got a great tube amp that I love-I had also tried a Katana in my journey for tone-I am still wishing to add some tonal variety, possibly alternative amps, and definitely effects into the mix. I liked the Katana’s effects, so it seems logical I may like the GT1000, and their AIRD tech sounds promising as it claims to work intuitively even when plugged into a real traditional amplifier. Is this going to be a let down a la L6?
    I’m either going to buy a Katana Artist MKII, the big ass foot switch, and run it alongside my dry Marshall with an ABY pedal, or get the GT1000 to augment my Marshall.
    Which sounds like it’ll be better? I’ve also thought this option is better because I could do the wet dry thing, and have a second amp that is far more versatile with its true modeling approach to add into the overall sound with my Marshall.
    I’m looking to hit many birds with one stone. Down the line, yes, I’d rather have the real amps, and the real pedals, but for the short-long-term I’ve got the means to either grab a Katana, which I did like, or a GT1000. I love delay, modulation like flanger/phaser, and want looping ability. Both appear to have these. Please help me! 😁
    For the record I have mics like SM57 etc, and I do like to record, but as I’ve said the recording bit is secondary to in-the-room tone. I am a millennial, but I favor the traditional amplifier sound and feel. I can’t do headphones unless I’m strictly recording. I’m not inspired much while jamming through a studio headset. I don’t have any flat response speakers.
    Many many thanks if you actually read this, and thoughtfully considered my dilemma. Thank you.

    • @AdamManley7
      @AdamManley7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man if you’re already got the Marshall you’re loaded on amp emulation but the GT1000 personally is way more easy to use than normal pedals, being able to move them around, adjust settings on the fly, and full one change your entire pedal board rig just with a button push the GT-1000 is just easier as a pedal board than individual effects

    • @AdamManley7
      @AdamManley7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A FRFR speaker with a GT-1000 though will give you the AIRD amp models, very good sounding with much more tweak ability than real amps but might not give you that cab resonance and feedback response from the Marshall. My opinion is the amp can stay long term but definitely go for a GT-1000 as your pedal board rather than real pedals, the feel will be the same as pedals are transistor based too anyway

    • @justinTime077
      @justinTime077 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamManley7 I appreciate your belated response. I’ve since tried a Fractal FM3 (after trying every other brand of modeler), and have just sold it to buy the Axe FX 3. Fractal fully won me over. There’s no comparison in my ears. I sold my tube amps to buy the Axe3 because it’s just that good. I send it through the return of my solid state head into my 4x12 and it’s so fucking authentic I can’t believe it!

    Great videos on the CORE. I was wondering, though, are you going to make any instruction video explaining how to utilize the CORE with the BOSS ES8...that would be very useful as I can see the theory behind how to use the ES8 to separate out the pre and post effects, I'd just really like to see you do it...I'm a visual learner, and reading stuff is very confusing to me..also how to prepare the CORE itself when you've set it up with the ES8, or 5 for that matter. Thanks.

    How are you powering the board? Boss/Roland were of no help. I tried to use to included power supply and it is an absolute noise nightmare when going into a tube amp. If you plug into a p.a. or the return of a Katana is fine but when doing 4 cable and adding pedals in the loop it gets quite noisy in spite of the ground lift. Any suggestions?

    Hey man, great content!
    I had a question. Can channel switching be done without using the ctl 1 button?
    Let's say I'm going from patch 1 to patch 2 and the amp channel changes from clean to distortion automatically. So, I don't have to switch manually by pressing the ctl1 button. Is this possible?

    • @Techo1329
      @Techo1329 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if your amp has an external channel select jack, connect it to CTRL4/5 of the Boss with a TRS cable (split the TRS to dual mono if you have two channel select jacks). Then you can use the AMP CTRL options in the Master Block to control what amp channel is used with the patch.

    • @score2926

      @@Techo1329I use a 2 channels Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, 1 clean, 1 high gain. Initial position of channel selector is set to Foot Switch (choices are ch1/ft sw/ch2) and ch1 (clean) is kind of auto-selected (fair enough so far). If current patch has Amp control turned OFF, as soon as I connect a jack cable from the amp control output to the foot switch input of the Mesa, it switches to ch2 (high gain) which is a weird behaviour in my opinion (but reading schema in the manual indicates it shortcuts so it seems it works as designed). This is counter intuitive and not handy because it means all patches where I just want a clean tone (ch1) have to be modified to set the amp control to ON. This should be the reverse in my opinion.
      Do you have such a behaviour ? Do you please know if there's a way to fix this? (I actually use a GT 100 but the schemas are the same AFAIK).
      Thanks in advance for any answer.

      @@score2926 G'day mate. No such issue with the GT-1000 which has TRS output giving two AMP CTRL assignable switches per patch. I see the GT-100 has a mono output so you are limited to sending just two control signals (AMP CTRL ON or OFF). For the GT-100, 'ON' is open circuit, 'OFF' is closed circuit. Anyway it sounds like it's working, meaning you get either Clean/OD by toggling AMP CTRL on/off at patch level...but instead of 'ON' being clean you want 'OFF' to be clean? If so I don't think this can be done. Maybe see how it behaves by changing the AMP Footswitch selector, maybe if you put it to ch1 or ch2 it will change how the AMP reacts to the GT-100 open or closed signal (AMP CTRL on/off).

    • @score2926
      @score2926 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Techo1329 Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes that's it, I want OFF to be clean to avoid for example to get a "clean" FX from the GT over the overdrive of the Mesa preamp or 2 overdrives. But, while I'm thinking, in any case it seems (I got my GT yesterday) default GT sounds are all with GT preamp turned ON, so there will be 2 serial preamps which is probably kind of weird I guess. The best way I can imagine to fix the "problem" is to use the 4CM method and enable the "send and return" in the FX chain when I want to use the Mesa preamp (ON to get a clean sound and OFF if I want high gain). Since "send and return" is disabled for factory sounds (it seems) the Mesa preamp will be bypassed for those factory sounds and signal will go straight in the power amp (so I don't care if the switch is ON or OFF). The only problem remaining will be to adjust volumes between virtual and physical preamps.
      Correct me if I am wrong if you'd like, thanks for you help 🙂 !

    • @Techo1329
      @Techo1329 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@score2926 With 4CM any active block in front of the SND/RTN block will go to your amp input whenever the SND/RTN block is 'on', and active blocks after the SND/RTN will go direct to the amp FX return (post amp pre-amp). In the GT-100 you can turn the amp block off if you have the SND/RTN active so you don't have both GT-100 and amp pre-amps running together, and you can still run GT effects to both amp input and FX return, just position the blocks accordingly within the GT-100...say you are playing through the Mesa overdrive channel...you have to have the GT-100 SND/RTN on but turn off the amp block, you can then cherry pick the other GT-100 effects you want to use and position them accordingly to be hitting the amps input, or fx loop.

    Great video! My GT-1000 is expected this week!
    I understand it is also possible to use the pre-amp of the GT-1000 together with the Blackstar. The blackstar is then used as poweramp for the volume and with the GT-1000 the pre-amp could be changed giving it a different feel. For example an AC-30, I understand the pre-amp is a very important part of the amp and changing this would allow the best of both worlds.
    Did you try to do this? Maybe even a video about it?

      You'd better use one of the brilliant TVP series to do so, as that way you can use BOSS to add IR module to the chain. All ID Series TVP and ID Core amps have linear PA and wide range non-guitar general purpose speakers. That kind of a setup is the best for guitar processors as well as active monitors and sound systems. Use Line in socket.

      The boss gt1000 has a big flaw regarding its converter. The send port is sending white noise/hiss in the preamp. There are some discussions in forums regarding this issue. The only way to reduce a bit this issue is putting an graphic EQ1 block after the send/return block and reducing the 16khz by -20 db.

Would setup remain the same if you wanted to add a stomp box/overdrive before your preamp? Meaning, if we wanted to use the GT1000 also as a way to add a boost in the signal that goes before the amp's preamp and still keeping the modulation effects in the loop?

    • @brandoncooke6564
      @brandoncooke6564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nobody responded, so figured I would, even if its a little late now.
      1) I don't know the answer to the first half of the first question but my guess is most likely you cannot do voice switching unless your amp has a voice switching out, which I very much doubt. It's not doing anything magical as far as the footswitching capability, though it is a cool feature, all it is doing is sending the same signal a footswitch would do, into the footswitch input.
      2) Yes, the DI output works "exactly" as it would if you put a microphone to the speaker. I say "exactly" because my experience with both Peavey and Blackstar DI outputs is they are totally usable for live scenarios but when recording, it leaves something to be desired. But by all means test it out yourself.
      3) The GT1000 can function on it's own as an audio interface. In fact, if anything, adding an interface after the GT1000 only increases the chances of the signal not sounding quite as clear into your computer. Because in that case you have to do analog to digital conversions in each unit, instead of only one of them.
