Great video as per usual 😁 yea gt 1000 sounds better, it's more expensive, better processor etc but! The katana has a power Amp, a speaker, USB connection.... By itself the katana offers more to me.
@Aiwill Nukeus gt versus katana is interesting though, now we have a idea of the gap between the two. And I'm sure if you play live, in a mix, if your fingers are good, your tone will be great 👍 and also there's too many helix versus gt versus fractal versus kemper😁😅
But if you already own another ample, it would make more sense to get the GT 1000 and run it into the power amp in (like on my Peavey Bandit) or FX loop.
Thanks for the vid, I've got a MK II Katana 100w head, and debating going to the gt-1000 - you really hightlighted the difference here. BTW, the shimmery stuff you were playing at the 5 minute mark was mesmerizing, that needs to be in a movie soundtrack - something with Michelle Pfieffer and Jeff Bridges, I'm thinking, where they're out in the Arizona desert at dusk... 😎
The GT 1000 is really expensive and I wouldn't imagine anyone who has that buying a cheap ass katana. Plus, we all know that original non waza Katana speakers suck major ass. I'm 99% sure it will sound better through similarly priced PA or cab.
@@Cymanytb a friend of mine just recently purchased the GT1000 with a 1x12 and a 2x12 katana mk2 for a wet/dry setup for smaller gigs. He set the GT outs to recording mode and set the cab emulators to match the speaker size they're going out to. This guy has been a tube man for life and had his starship enterprise of a supro, victory and twin reverb amps setup for wet/dry/wet across the room with a board full of pedals I'll never afford haha. Even the sub outs from the GT going to his PA replicated what was coming from the katanas. I'm still floored by how much the boss setup could hold it's own with such a quality pro rig. I've been gigging the katana 50 mk1 for years now and it's been thrown around a van and thrown down stairs and she's still holding up strong. I've never had a soul complain about my sound. I'll definitely be upgrading to the above setup since trying it out the other night. You should try it out if ya can dude, don't knock it till you try it and all that!
I'm thinking about running the katana amp sounds with the gt1000 floor unit for effects. Depending on the tones, I might even just use the katana as the preamp
Hi King fisher, I have just bought 2 Katana's 100s & GA-FC footswitch controller, and run with the stereo expand function, and i am also thinking about buying a GT1000Core to expand the setup another level and run it as a 2 amp L/R OR stereo. Can i ask if you got the 1000Core and what results you got with running it with 2 Katana's? Cheers.
Good video as always. I sold my Katana 100 MK2 and got a GX100, but now have a Katana Artist MK2 I got in a trade and thinking I’ll go back to the Katana for my needs. I always kicked myself for selling the first one. The GX is great, but I don’t use a fraction of its power and just really vibe with the Katana. And special thanks for your Rockman Clean! It’s my go-to and I replicated it on the Katana, GX and my WAZA headphones!
i have a GT1000 and 2 of the white MKII 100/112 amps. i love running the 2 Katanas in stereo expand mode for gigging and just using the GA-FC to control onstage. Using the G1000 in stereo into the Power Amp In sounds really good too. (just change the Output from Recording to the Katana Power Amp in setting) cheers
The katana has a parallel mode [w/send/return]for using two amps [if you have a pedal with loaded amps in it]and with he librarian or fxfloorboard you can move any effect block to where you want..
Great video! I have a katana mk 1 and I love it, the GT-1000 sounds superb to me but to be honest from my use of literally playing quietly in my house, the Katana is more practical for me
I'm using an Oceans11 in the loop of the Katana (I can't afford a Strymon!) and this does elevate the Katana to another level. The GT1000 is great but one pedal bridges most of the gap.
Gt 1000 is nice but it is at least 3 times more expensive than the katana & you still need an amp to run it. Love my katana, still finding so many new sounds from it
I'm hearing a definite difference in EQ... I think if you adjust the EQ on the Katana you can get closer.. Is possibly using either the parametric or the global EQ
Hi, thanks for the vid. May I ask you a couple of questions: 1. I believe you got sound from Katana using a mic? Not any line outs etc ? 2. How did you connect GT-1000core? Did you plug it straight to audio interface or did you use DBox or first uniersal audio preamp or what ? Thank you.
Great video. I've been thinking of getting the GT1000 core because I want a small FOH solution. I'll then use my Katana mk2 50 for practice or as a monitor. What great tones. Was that guitar a Pensa Suhr, or just a suhr may I ask?
GT-1000 sounds great, but it’s close to 3x the price of a Katana 50 mkII, and you can’t bring it to jam/practice unless there’s a PA or powered speaker. Two totally different pieces of gear suited for different applications.
Thank you Paul for this comparison. I own a Katana 50 mkI and was looking to upgrade. The problem is I only play at low volumes. To me that means a valve amp would need a attenuator aswel. And I feel that a valve amp with attenuator doesn’t sound any beter then a Helix for example. But for this low volume playing, what is the best thing to do, use a GT1000 or other multieffect with studio monitors. Or is it best to use a FrFr cab ( or Katana 100 MKII into power amp). I would appreciate an answer from anyone with experience in this. Greetings, Sam
@@LeandroReisPlus no I didn't. But I'm using the PodGo in the Aux of the Katana and it sounds pretty good. But I'll take suggestions for a low watt valve amp so I can compare this over a longer period
@@samhollanders6842 tbh I feel even a 5w valve amp is way overkill for home use, especially if you live in an apartment. As soon as you put some drive in front of it, it's crazy loud. To be honest I have the Helix and I just recently bought the GT 1000 and the quality of the sound is way better from the GT 1000 than the Helix. Just sound more realistic
I'm thinking about the core, but for about the money for a new core I can get a used AxeFx 8 pedal and their effects are just stellar. I think probably better than Boss .. At least to my ears.
I have a Katana Artist (mark 1) and I love it. Ironically, the relative simplicity of the Katana is appealing to me. I can quickly get great tones out of it. I was leaning towards a device like the GT-1000 but for my tube amp. I recently tried out a trial of the Neural DSP Cory Wong plug-in and was really impressed with the sound quality. I also like its relative simplicity.
I was looking at GT-1000 for my tube amp as well (PRS MT15) even though it sounds freaking amazing as is. But when you start looking at 4-5 pedals its cheaper to buy something like the GT-1000. Not to mention power supplies like CIOks etc it adds up to more than a GT-1000
Great comparison, Paul. I'd like to hear a comparison of some of the amp types, especially both on the edge of breakup. I think that is where the Katana falls short compared to valves. Good, but not great.
The BOSS Katana uses the BOSS GT100 pedalboard technology. Basically it is a GT100 pedalboard with speakers. Of course the GT1000/CORE sounds and reacts better..ITS NEWER TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katana Artist destroys Gt1000 because The artist has a great speaker, sounds more tubey, it is easier to use, the tone is already there, you plug and play, has tons of amazing effects, control switch with 6 footswitch, whereas the gt1000 has only 3 (impossible to use it for a gig) you have to pay $300 more to jave more footswitch...so it's up to you
