  • This poor MG TF was left rotting in a carpark for over 6 years.
After purchasing for near scrap value, i set myself the task of deep cleaning it to see what i could make of the vehicle - as it turned out - it was pretty decent under all that grime!

Good job, keep it up! It's great to keep this to remind people about the MG badge. Otherwise a car like a MG ZS EV will make many forget about MG's heritage. Hopefully you'll show SAIC that they need to make a new TF.

Sadly the car was too far gone.
After all the work, I started delving deeper. Cylinder head was warped, head gasket gone. Clutch gone, both subframes were rotten to the point of snapping in two, all running gear was wrecked.
Unfortunately the car has since been scrapped.

    New to your channel.
So you gave £250 for the TF thats not bad..
I owned a 2000 X registered Wedgewood blue MGF se I owned it around 5 years..
Over the years I spent a few quid on it. Based on my usage my battery was forever flat.
The suspension was lob sided one side then the other.. It was at this point I scrapped it.Free
Actually a clean car with very minor issues.
Erm the issues I had were possibly common..Like door entry and the boot opened but the bonnet pull stretched so could not get under the bonnet to jump start the cars power.
Id say £400 to put the faults right and regain new mot.. And on going there after..
Great video.. Oh I was a valet guy back in the early 1980's I love a dirty car and bringing it back to its former glory..

Wow what a transformation. There's a TF I know in similar condition in a rare monogram colour. I'd love to save it but its had no back window for years and apparently the engines seized too

Mate I saw this car near Alnwick on a trip up to to view our wedding venue nearby, we stopped in the running fox and see this in the carpark behind near a rather sad looking jaguar xk8. Glad it's being restored!
    Where are you guys based?

Hi Thomas, im based in Longframlington (mobile detailer and mechanic) so yeah, thats the same car. Unfortunately some sad news regarding the car, it unfortunately was too far gone structurally and mechanically once i delved into it. Clutch, Head Gasket, Engine seized, both subframes rotten and plenty chassis rot and all suspension components were completely shot. Wasnt visible until it was up in the air.
It just wasn't worth restoring at that point which i was gutted about as i previously owned a TF which i loved, however the thriving MGF/TF community benefitted from a lot of salvagable parts from this vehicle, so it wasn't all in vain.

@@anthonysimm ah thats a shame. Atleast some of it was salvaged. Could have used some parts for the one I'm building at the moment haha
