I drove a P3 a few days ago in the UK. A short accompanied drive along their set route but enough to get a favourable impression. Later this month they will offer proper test drives so I might book again to try it out across a mixed route of my own choosing. The car is impressive. Fast, tight and competent. Smallish boot. Google maps. Should do well even with the high price tag.
Finally, a superb, long video on the hidden gem that is Polestar. I'm waiting for the future Polestar 5 to come out of production so I can pre-order it.
45:30 μg = micro gram, 1 qubic meter is about 27-30 qubic feet. But like you said, most air quality is done in ppm and separated by size. Like PM2.5 is the kind that can cross the blood-brain-barrier.
Interesting in how Polestar uses science in measuring outdoor temp, they initiate the sensing when the car is in motion (which make for a more reliable reading not as subject to HVAC influence), Tesla says it does not work so on the latest software update goes to web for the closest temperature, which makes no sense to us Canadians when we travel through he mountains and want to know what the outdoor temp is when driving especially in winter with little or no cell service.
Always enjoyable your reviews. Only thing I would say is that performance is about way more than just acceleration. The way Polestar approaches it, mechanically is very impressive and one of the reasons why it is so nice to drive.
I traded my Model 3 for a Polestar 2 2024. I don't like Elon and his politics much, but the main reason for switch was how bad Teslas quality was. After 3 years with it I had so many issues and so many service appointments I just gave up and sold it. So far I love the Polestar 2, and the improvements in the latest versions make a lot of difference. The Polestar 3 seems really nice though, in a whole different class!
Great to see the super rare Polestar 1. Good to show the Polestar 1, 2, 3 & 4. Went to see the Polestar stand at the UK Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. Great to see the concept BST Polestar 6 there.
SPA and SPA2 were developed specifically by Volvo. Volvo is the semi-autonomous Swedish company in the Geely Group. Polestar 3 will be made in the Volvo factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

Polestar is not much different than Volvo. Basically, it's a bunch of Volvo designers and engineers and sports tuners from Volvo that are now working for Polestar in Goteborg, Sweden. The only Polestar that is not like one is the 4. The rest are a lot like Volvos, just sportier with a slightly different styling, but still related to Volvo's styling.
I’m happy to hear the positive review. I’ve been anxious for its release so I’m glad it held up to expectations. I’m really excited about the Polestar 5 but for a midsize SUV this is damn near perfect. As long as it doesn’t come in 500 boxes and you need to assemble it yourself, Swedish style 😂
The difference in the range calculation is actually because for the performance pack car, they had to use the performance drive mode. Where in the normal car they could use the normal drive mode. Just to add to the confusion. Insane car, i want one and might order one!
The leather in ALL Polestar cars in any country comes from a company based in Bridge Of Weir just outside Glasgow Scotland. The reason I know is I was in Polestars Studio in the Silverburn shopping centre and the staff told me the family who supply them have been in the store a few times.
@jeffs6090 turn signals are also used for the hazard light function. Automotive lighting engineer here. I agree. Amber turn signals should be required by law, and they should reduce the required projected area in the U.S. to make it easier to implement for automakers.
The torque vectoring clutch system allows for the rear motor to be completely disconnected from the wheels in non-performance mode to get better efficiency and range 😎
Thank you Kyle and Jordan for another great video. I put my order in for the Midnight Blue full spec Polestar 3. I love my EV6, however, this checked some of the missing boxes.
Nice review. One correction though. The EPA rating isn't different just because the wheel and tire combos. It's that the Performance Pack and standard cars have a different default setting for engaging and disengaging the rear motor. By default the non-Performance cars will turn off the rear motor while cruising, making the car effectively FWD unless driving conditions or your right foot, demand otherwise. (or you can select "Performance" in the driver settings, which then will keep the rear motor engaged). The Performance Pack cars are exactly the opposite. They are delivered with the Performance drive setting as the default (both motors stay engaged), and you would need to select "Range" in the driver's settings to have it turn off the rear motor when it's not needed. So it's that motor management, along with the wheels/tires, that creates the EPA difference, since the EPA test must be done on the default settings. The Polestar 4 is/will be the same, just it's the front motor on that one that it will turn on/off, or not.
Nice review. Ordered my polestar 3 two months ago and will deliver in November, so excited. I drove polestar 2 for 3 years and very satisfied and that's why I ordered my polestar 3. I like the polestar's design so much. Especially the interior, the design is simple but not looks cheap, when you sit in the car you know you are in a $75,000+ car. Also the safety feature is awesome, it help several times to avoid accidents during my three years polestar 2 drive. You should know polestar is part of Volvo which means it is not a start up company, their quality and safety are from Volvo which has very high reputation. I suggest anyone interested to test drive, polestar is a car you need to feel and drive.
Great first drive, I’m a previous poster to owner, i had a preorder for this but it got delayed. Ended up getting Rivian R1T, but i will be test driving it on Saturday

@@benjaminsmith2287 the model x which is priced closer has way more room, range, and acceleration. The model y still has more cargo capacity than the polestar even though it's larger. Polestar is known for their sustainability even the steel is made with steel that doesn't use coal think it's made in Sweden(steel for it) in a factory that uses Hydrogen instead of Coal and the EV Haters go on about children in the Congo on the cobalt they can tell them to 'piss off' and show the evidence that it didn't unlike the fossil fuel for that same EV Hater that does use it to remove the sulfur. Great review. Glad to see you guys find a vehicle you feel is better than a Tesla. It's nice to watch you guys have a fun time but a bit less giggling/laughing would be a definite improvement for the viewers.
Polestar 13:58 the naming is based on the order they were released but yh it makes no sense if you think it's based on size like every other car with numbers for names. To make it more complicated apparently the next generation Polestar 2 will the 7 if they carry on with this naming system.
The polestar 3 has been on display for a long time at the Volvo/polestar showroom at the local shopping mall. It’s a gorgeous vehicle and the front air ducts that allow air to go up over the hood is a stunning detail. I wish it wasn’t a chinese manufacturer or else I’d be seriously interested.
YS is the code for Sweden. SAAB had YS3 and VOLVO YV1 or YV4. POLESTAR has YSM in Sweden, LPS in China and no extra code I could find for US build cars.
Test drove the Polestar 3 a couple of weekends ago. The backseat is comically spacious. It is a HEAVY car and it felt heavy even with firm steering and sportiest suspension setting. My C40 is much more agile. I would probably like the Polestar 4 more if it weren’t for the windowless rear, which is a nonstarter for me.
It's not complicated. The cars are numbered in order of (anticipated) release like iPhones. Unfortunately, the 3’s release was delayed due to technical issues with the platform which resulted in the 4 being released before the 3. The nomenclature has nothing to do with size or power, its simply a naming system based entirely on the (anticipated) order of release like the iPhone.
Great video, glad it lived up to your high expectations. You mention the Ex30 a lot, is there a video coming on that from when you drove one in Germany?
I read a lot of comments that it's too expensive. People don't seem to get that this is the "SUV" flagship, same quality as a Volvo EX90 and it's supposed to be $75K to $100K. That's not outrageous at all for this car. Most reviews say it drives as well as anything in its class and that' it is as well built/finished as its competitors. Just because it is called "Polestar" and people don't know its history doesn't mean it is overpriced. It's not.
Far too expensive in Australia - starts at (in $AUD) $148k no options, $183k with the performance pack, sound and seat upgrades - to put that into perspective that would get you 2 model Y performance vehicles and have $5k left over or at the top end it's competing with the Audi Q8 e-tron, MB EQS and Porche Macan Turbo electric. At the end of the day it's a Swedish styled and Chinese made vehcile with very suspect software competing against established German marques. I have the top spec XC60 T8 Polsetar PHEV but I'm not kidding myself it's in the same class as the Audi, MB, BMW or Porsche alternatives.
It is overpriced. I am basing this not on your claim on what it is supposed to be but on what it actually is - and that is a medium size SUV at the size of a model y with medium interior quality and okish range.
@@mondvogel6124 It does not have medium interior quality. Have you been in one? And the ones out are pre-production and still the quality is excellent. It's not overpriced one bit. It should cost what a Volvo EX90 does as it has the same quality, they share components. I don't care about range. Range doesn't determine quality.
@@mondvogel6124 Fine then. The quality of the Polestar 3 is very high IMO. I've sat and been driven in or have driven a number of cars and the Polestar uses alternative sustainable materials, ,just like Volvo does, often the same materials as Volvo, and they are of high quality. Plus, these cars are very solidly built. In terms of range, no, it doesn't equal how good a car is. It's like fuel economy. That's not how I judge expensive cars. I judge them as cars. How well are they built. How well do they filter out road imperfection and noise. What type of noises do they make. Etc. The tech is a part of the car but the car as a machine is what I look at first. Polestar is using the Porsche Cayenne as a benchmark for the Polestar 3. It's not trying to be in any Model Y type of tier and that's something people need to understand. This is the flagship Polestar SUV, not the middle market Polestar 4 that more competes with the Y. Do I think it's as good as a Cayenne? Probably not as Porsche at least in terms of chassis and steering input is hard to beat plus their ride refinement is very high. But if they are at 85 percent or better, that's a car worth looking at. Lucid is making fine cars too. It took some time but they are. Good cars aren't the name on them. They're the engineering teams behind them working with other teams. Polestar has some solid engineering teams, plus design, plus Volvo know how how to build cars, behind them.
Nice review, thank you. It's clearly a quality car with a lot of Volvo DNA in it. I can see this being a good replacement for my 2016 Volvo XC70 in a few years' time. As I have a Polestar 2 already, that would make me an all-electric and all Polestar household. A couple of potential issues and questions. 1. On the Polestar 2, the driver's display is beautifully integrated into the dashboard in the traditional way and you can display the map on it for safety so you don't have to look at the center console for the map when driving. It seems that on the Polestar 3, the drivers display is an ugly small rectangular display that appears to be bolted on without and regard for aesthetics. Your review did not demonstrate maps being displayed on the drivers display, because if that's not possible then I would hesitate about buying this car 2. When I sat in the car at my Polestar space earlier this week, the huge gap down to the floor from the back of the wireless phone charger with a tiny back stop seemed to me to be poorly designed, so it's not only that the phone is going to fly off towards you when you accelerate hard but also maybe if you brake hard, your phone is going to go flying over the back stop and drop a couple of feet down onto the floor under the centee console. Also, the wireless charger doesn't have space for two phones which is not good given that the usb sockets are underneath the arm rest, meaning that a charging cable would have be stretched from underneath the arm rest if the passenger phone user wanted to use their phone while driving. As far as the slightly wrinkled leather, my Polestar 2 had the same thick when I bought it new in 2022. At first I was bothered by it and even asked for it to be repaired under warranty: that was refused because Polestar says it's just a byoroduct of the type of leather used. I confirmed that on the girums, and over time I have come to like the look of the tiiny creases which haven't changed at all from when the car was new.
32:49 The huge second row might be due to the platform being built for Chinese brands in tandem. Rear seat leg room is a big point of emphasis on higher-end vehicles in China.
28:30 Wow, I think I just learned something, indirectly from Kyle's comment. I always wondered why most cars don't have rear amber turn signals. Amber turn signals detract from the available space for brake lights and taillights. And unfortunately, even though LED lights could have an amber light and a red light share the same space, your amber light would detract from the area of another lamp that would normally be red. I don't know what would really be the best solution for that dilemma.
We've had our Polestar 2 for a little over two years, it's been a fantastic car. I didn't want a Tesla, had nothing to do with Elon, I actually think he's an interesting guy, but I just didn't like the style of the Tesla's. I do like the Polestar 3, can't wait for the Polestar 4 review!
The Polestar 3 rollout has been a complete cluster but given what Ford did with the Mach E and Cadillac with the Lyric it might just be par for the EV course.
That´s nice car - I didn't know that it's already on the road. I only feel that the interior is too much Ikea design - simplistic - for me in this category, works better in the EX30. Filling the line of contenders for the next race to Vegas :)))) Any excuse for seeing more of it will do. It should get olympic! We should see like every 3 months? 6 months ? a new one.
There is well over a thousand P3 Launch Edition already on US soil as of first of July. Probably closer to 2000 by now. Will not be subject to 100% tariff. Still has the ongoing 27.5 % tariff. My P3 has been here since the end of May. Launch Edition deliveries subject to final delivery software deployment.
Polestar 3 was developed solely by Volvo where the polestar 4 was developed mainly in China. Hence the 3 sits on the SPA (volvo exclusive platform) and the 4 sits on SEA (shared platform with Smart, Lotus, Geely, zeekr and volvo). This is also why the Polestar 4 were manufactured in China only and not in the US like the polestar 3. But we can expect more Polestar vehicles to be based from the SEA platform because now Volvo is expected to hand it’s stake in polestar to Geely, it’s parent company. All a bit confusing, i know.
Well here in Canada this car is such a better value than the Tesla Model X and better car for that matter, just a plain no brainier! Well done Polestar!
Polestar 3 is beautifully designed. What will be interesting is will the material quality of the US South Carolina built units match the China built units. For instance us built Mercedes products fall short of their German built products. From an expectation perspective I would have expected the Polestar to have delivered 400 plus miles off of one charge. I think they missed the mark here. For the same money the Lucid Gravity crushes it with exceeding base expectations
i believe they've said the framing for the rear screen, reduces the head room in the back of the car. so its not the glass it self but how to safely put it in the car.
44:17 the i4 has all of those and includes since factory. It doesn't show them all on one screen, you do have to cycle through them, but they are all available.
Apparently BMW cut costs and they’re not using the fancy charge port flaps anymore. Just saw the same style cheap plug cover as on this car on a new i5
Volvo pushed back the EX30 launch to next year because they knew the car would get a big tariff being built in China, but polestar is pushing around with the 3/4 launch with both built in China. Maybe the thinks is with the polestars being more expensive, they can eat the tariffs?
My idea is they will eat the tariffs for a couple cars but they got perhaps 1-2,000 of them into the US before the tariffs went into effect (waiting on final software and transport), so they will eat the tariffs for a few of them, because they know the US factory goes online very soon anyway and they can switch over in a month or two. With the EX30 that switchover to Belgian production is slated later, in 2025, so they just delayed the EX30 in the US altogether.
Looks fantastic. Great video. Comparing this against new Audi Q6 E-Tron, do those compare or would it be closer to the Q8 E-Tron? Really watching Polestar and the E-Tron lines for next car.

I am shocked that Jordan didn't know what a microgram symbol was. He is an engineer.

Polestar 3 production is split between Chengdu China and South Carolina
@@ChristopherOden US consumers, and probably European consumers will get the South Carolina P3s. And I never said the P3 was produced exclusively in South Carolina.
@@ChristopherOden With EVs with 500+hp selling for $40k in China, polestar is done there long ago. Polestar2 was 50% off for years in China, still didn't sell many
Polestar is not much different than Volvo.

You realize the chinese are better at manufacturing than Americans, right?
There is a clutch disconnect for the AWD if I’m not mistaken to improve highway efficiency.
Seeing Polestar 3 and 4 all over Sweden now. What a car 🇸🇪✔️ damm This cars get all the eyes on it!!
Yes! I am an Amber turn signal nerd. Awesome.
Yes!! All turn signals, front and rear, should always be amber. And, all amber should only be for turn signals.
@jeffs6090 turn signals are also used for the hazard light function. Automotive lighting engineer here. I agree. Amber turn signals should be required by law, and they should reduce the required projected area in the U.S. to make it easier to implement for automakers.
@@descentplayer Please explain that projected area requirement. I dont understand.
Great review Kyle! Polestar 3 looks great!
I agree i want the polestar 2 shifter back.
Polestar in USA sucks a big one, hardly any dealerships, and overpriced, no way.
@@tonyn3227 that's means you are not their target client. Polestar is not for everyone
@@skshi439 correct. Tesla is for me
@@tonyn3227 you can go for Tesla then.
Polestar is not a part of Volvo anymore. Volvo sold most of its shares in the company (down to 18%), and Polestar is independent under Geely.
Great first drive, I’m a previous poster to owner, i had a preorder for this but it got delayed. Ended up getting Rivian R1T, but i will be test driving it on Saturday

@@Shiftheads This is way more sophisticated than a Model Y.
@@benjaminsmith2287 I guess I missed what it can do that the model y can't do. Tell me about this sophistication
@@Shiftheads Do you compare the Model X to a Ioniq 5? No. You compare it to cars in its price range and refinement range like the Model Y. A Polestar 3 does not compare to a Model Y. It is a higher-rung vehicle. Polestar 4 possible, but not Polestar 3.
@@benjaminsmith2287 the model x which is priced closer has way more room, range, and acceleration. The model y still has more cargo capacity than the polestar even though it's larger. So my point is the polestar doesn't really for anywhere to compete. No 3rd row for a price of 85k loaded? Why would anyone buy this thing instead of a 5k mile model x plaid

One reason I love Polestar.
Tell these people that regardless. The same rare earths are destroyed in the fuel making process
I'm interested to see how this compares to Macan S EV. They are the electric SUV's that interest me most.
I absolutely love amber turn indicators...
They should be required, because they communicate far better.
Such a great looking car. Looking forward to seeing one of these.
Interesting point about the 70% chemical stress point on my Polestar 2. Will bear that in mind when charging in future.

Love what Polestar is doing really thinking about getting 2 Performance
I’m happy to see that the center console is not as intrusive as in the 2. However the window sill is still high for this short driver.
I like how the 3 doesn't have the cockpit feel. There is some open space.
They are a Swedish brand and the Polestar 3 will start getting built in the US later and the Polestar 4 in South Korea.
They're not. They are owned by a Chinese company but are Swedish through and through.
@@benjaminsmith2287 a Chinese company has majority interest in their publicly held stock shares. But seem to let them run their own core business.
@@cypvh74 Correct.

@@benjaminsmith2287 i have been in one, not at all impressed. Range is definitely an input to how much a vehicle should cost
Polestar is the way
24:24 YES, this would be mega interesting to learn !!!!!
The different Geely brands are really run as independent companies. Just sharing some underlying architectures.
Right. That's the best thing about Geely brands and Geely acquired brands.
Your review did not demonstrate maps being displayed on the drivers display, because if that's not possible then I would hesitate about buying this car
@1:03:50 In the Polestar 2 you can change the cruise control "1 by 1" mile/km if you are touching the accelerator.
Just hold down the button longer for 1 mile/km increments. Short press for 5.
32:49 The huge second row might be due to the platform being built for Chinese brands in tandem. Rear seat leg room is a big point of emphasis on higher-end vehicles in China.
How is it compared to the Audi Q8? Interior quality and driving ?
Nice editing!
Thank you 🙏🏼
28:30 Wow, I think I just learned something, indirectly from Kyle's comment.
Test drives have been available since July 15th, at least at our Space in Scottsdale.
I'm an amber turn signal nerd lol. I don't understand the red turn signals, much harder to mistake amber with a brake light.
And that's why car names are better than numbers - random or in series.
Will the price go down after US manufacturing starts?
@@4rwayner7 If they cannot sell them at this price it sure will.
The Polestar 1 is still one of my dream cars. Maybe some day when I win the Lotto, I just want to be like Kyle when I grow up..
It's the Volvo Concept Coupe comes to production. Very stylish car and Polestar made it a very capable road car.
Love amber turn indicators !!!

Awesome review Gentlemen. I own a P2, this is nice...really nice..but $$$ here in Montreal.
i believe they've said the framing for the rear screen, reduces the head room in the back of the car. so its not the glass it self but how to safely put it in the car.
44:17 the i4 has all of those and includes since factory. It doesn't show them all on one screen, you do have to cycle through them, but they are all available.
Apparently BMW cut costs and they’re not using the fancy charge port flaps anymore. Just saw the same style cheap plug cover as on this car on a new i5
doing 100 percent in polestar 2 .
Cool video as usual Kyle.... looks like you lost weight! Regards from Vancouver Canada 🤙🏻
