Still driving P2 for couple of years, but P4 perf pack would be my next car. As working with software development I can tolerate non-fatal bugs ... they are just in all sw. But clearly Polestar need to improve in that side quite a bit. Nice to hear that drive feeling is good. That is the main thing for me as P2 is so excellent to drive.
why have they had these software problems when they already implemented such a great system in the Polestar 2? It is very perplexing. How do you find the ride? I love our Polestar 2 but had read not so great reports about the 4.
It's not acceptable to release a product that might kill you with beta software(at best). I really hope people don't buy these products and companies stop outsourcing software purely on costs basis.
These digital rear view mirrors are terrible if you wear glasses with varifocal lenses. You just cannot see anything unless you move your head position, which makes it hard to keep focus on the road ahead.
I test drove a Polestar 4 in Germany. The staff asked me what I thought of it. I told them that cruise control was very chaotic. They tried to explain to me that I was simply not used to driving with this system and that Volvo drivers feel more familiar with it. I then commented on other things related to software that weren’t great and again they tried to convince me that it was all deliberate and that I was the problem.😂

The cheap glossy plastic touch thingies on the steering wheel remind me of VW, just awful experience. No matter how good the rest of the car is, I will never put up with this crap again.
I had to reset the Polestar 2 on 2 occasions (in 2.5 years). It once lost all sound, including indicators. Another time there was the problem that google apps don't update with the system - you have to implement the updates yourself - and as a result, the navigation suddenly lost connectivity. It still had the maps in memory but had no current updates on traffic, charging etc. etc. The service centre sorted it out with an email on the spot, which was excellent. And it has been generally excellent. But the buggy PS 4 has been a "thing" all the way along. Hope they have sorted it out now.
Hey Bjorn, despite you are right to complain about the lag with resume acc, at least there is resume button. Tesla, still requires much more input to put you into same speed when you re-activate cruise, even for a lane change... Other issues will be fixed for certain with otas, I am concerned however price which may not be fixed that fast 😮
Regarding rear window camera focus instead of mirror, when you are above 50 years old you most often need progressive glasses which makes you see near objects at the lower visual field like the instrument panel, but it will not work at all with something that is in your upper visual field. I have mentioned this in other forums, glad you showed it. It is not something an elderly person can get used to.
I watched many videos about EVs. I test drove a couple of cars, and I sat in about 12 cars before deciding. I wanted a car that was designed traditionally so to say, with physical buttons on the steering wheel. I finally decided on a Volvo C40 - and I just love driving that car.
Test drove a Polestar4 recently and yeah, the haptic buttons without labelling is another level of stupid. Otherwise the car worked very well and drove fantastically. Rear mirror you got used real fast to it. I hope they fix the bugs, otherwise it is a terrific car. But yeah, that Polestar makes the haptic mistake is one thing, but that VW makes such a horrible Golf as the MK8 after the MK7 is unbelievable. Now they are freaking out because sales are dropping as a rock. Yeah, give us a new Mk7 and I tell you people will buy again. Do car companies not have test panels with users? It is insane.
They ironed out the bugs with the Polestar 2. IT took them about 1.5 years. The Polestar 2 is now close to flawless. OTA is completely seamless. I also hope they sort this out quickly.
After 3 weeks with the car I can recognize the issues mentioned, BUT not saying a word on how good the car drives, quality feeling and materials is amazing, design exterior and interior is a waw effect, for me is biased. I am coming from Mercedes electric. Going to the issues, most of them are software related. And they have some kind of shortcut to solve them while waiting for an OTA (week 43 has been said). If HUD is not displaying when entering the car, you can activate it; Auto pilot functions needs to be improved, but you can live with it while waiting for the OTA. You can bring main functions to main screen, no need to navigate menus. The mirror: I use varifocals, first day it was weird and need to focus as Bjorn said, but after 3 weeks I am totally used to it, the refocus feeling is vanished and the mirror gives you a huge and adjustable (up/down/zoom/…) visual field and clarity no matter the weather outside. It is a clear improvement. And yes, I am not a fan of haptic buttons, but when I compare with what I am getting with the car is a minor thing. By the way, no mention that the car charges at 22 kW in AC, which is a hidden gem benefit I only discover know. 2 hours in the parking or the shopping center and you get half of the battery.
Any possibility to pay 1/3 price and on full bug free SW update , paying the rest ? Never gone buy a product with future promises. Unfortunately car is a product where it’s business can be fatal even if it is 95% perfect. Look at Fisker. There are better product out in market.
Drove Polestar 3, absolute gorgeous car in terms of drive characteristics and build quality. But Sw is terrible, cluster UI is not intuitive at all, display goes black , Not showing speed limit while driving , half baked ADAS etc and many more. Never expected that for a 90k car. Prices of all EVs are going to depreciate next year by 30-40% due to high supply, low battery costs
“Seems more and more cars are pulling a Tesla” 😂😂. That is so what came to my mind too as it was pointed out there are hardly any physical buttons to play with. I like control buttons I can touch. I guess that’s just a personal thing.
I think it's just a thing for almost everybody. The auto companies are ultimately trying to save money because "schumtz" gets into the little gaps between physical buttons and makes them fractionally less reliable.. But if you don't sell the car, you don't save sh¥% do you?
That’s such a bad design of the buttons. It’s literally the appliance on the road and labeled as one too😂. One thing going for polestar is the colours. They are amazing but well.. pricey.
Having invested in a Polestar 2 in 2022, it is a concern how the reputation of the business in the UK continues to limp along. The P2 had software issues but looking back, these now feel unimportant and the car's performance gives me confidence for the longer term. We do not need to sell or hand back the vehicle, thankfully.... but I can't see how the business believes their buggy product development would be attractive to someone who only has it for 3 years. Not good.
I drive a Renault Megane - E-tech with a digital mirror, and it took me like 3 days to realy get used to it (not wearing glasses). And the thing with "you cant tilt youre Head, its always the same picture" is, that i see more in this one picture than a mirror can show me. But its kind of weird in the beginning.
A test that myself and many others would like to see, it pops up often, is a test where you compare consumption on a Tesla M3 with standard 18" versus 19" or 20" You often read other people's results, but there are too many unknown factors in what people write, you also did a test at one point, but the test was with different tires, so it also does not give a correct picture of how big a difference there is in rim sizes
That mirror focus thing was a biggest problem for me while test drive. Rear view mirror is on your face if you have close driving position. Also HUD didn't work and I thought the car didn't have autopilot because it did the same streering from left to fight.
Bjorn, do you think with the newer generations of EVs that range is slowly becoming a non-issue? I increasingly get the impression. Everything is over 400 kms at motorway speeds and that for 90-10%.
Ah, first world problems! I think you nailed it when you talked about safety, messing with controls that weren’t working properly. When you live with EVs, powered by computers, you get used to software updates improving things and correcting bugs. But this took bugs to a new level, to the point where someone could get hurt. I get that companies are trying to get new models to market in a timely manner, but Polestar and others need to make sure these bugs don’t result in accidents, government safety agencies investigating and legal action - Tesla included. We aren’t crash test dummies, whether we buy these cars, or are victims of driver inattention. That said, I like a lot of what I see in the Polestar 4. It just isn’t ready yet.
I don't get it, China has a gazillion ppl, none of them software developers... And man, ABCD (always be checking colors in daylight). This color looks so much better than in the configurator. As much as I like the design of the car, it seems to be work in progress.
Yeah. I want to like this car and was waiting for you to get hold of one. Have had 2 Tesla M3P over the last 5 years, and they're undeniably good in many way - efficiency, software, power, general reliability (so far). But i fancy a change. I need a car that can easily do 250 miles in all UK weather in comfort, to match my Tesla. The idea of no rear window didn't bother me, but as someone who uses varifocals i wonder if the refocussing issue will be especially difficult, given that the 'near accommodation' zone of my glasses is at the bottom of the lens? Will i have to tilt my head right back to focus on the 'mirror'??
3 weeks with the car, varifocals on me. First day it felt weird. After one week you are totally used to it. Moreover, the vision field is huge and clear, no matter it’s raining or not, and you can adjust it, up/down, zoom, etc. the mention to move your head is nonsense.

@@baizerx Yes but between the SR and LR use the same rear motor. The LR RWD uses the new performance rear motor, the 4D2, which is appearantly more efficient. One major difference is that the peak power is at a higher vehicle speed, 110 kmph instead of 75 kmph. For most E-motors that means that the peak effciency is also at this higher speed, so this LR RWD should be more efficient at highway speeds.

Heavy consumption at motorway speed. No way around it. They compensate with the enormous battery.
The car industry and the gaming industry are going hand in hand nowadays. Bugs over Bugs and overpriced as hell...
One thing for sure, there's no "I bought the new Pulsar" from you anytime soon. lol. Are "press" cars on par with, for example a Pulsar I could buy at the dealer OR are the versions different? Are they equipped with the same version of software? Just curious.
Hawk Tuah 😂
🤣🤣
On my test drive the cruise control also didn’t work. That’s a no. I had the EX30 for 5 months before I returned it. The software seems to be made by the same dodgy chinese students. Not good enough.
Maybe you can get aftermarket back window?
This was meant to be the first car with the new mobileye system that’s similar to tesla Fsd 🤣🤣 can’t even get lane cruise control to work. No wonder everyone is ditching Mobileye
They have nothing to do with each other at all.
@@Torsten. who? It has a mobileye system
@@tomcockcroft9394 I said that Mobileeye has nothing to do with the steering wheel buttons
@@Torsten. ha true I’m talking about the ping ponging
I'm getting so tired of all these settings for basic things like mirrors and glove box being put into 3-4 infotainment submenus. This needs to stop. I refuse to buy a car with this unnecessary complexity.
Nice car but no rear window
Those haptic steering buttons are terrible and sure impossible in gloves. (Plus will be badly fingerprinty.
The problem is, this is a Chinese car with originally designed to have a Chinese software… But for the western world they have to use a different very buggy software and I don’t mean Android with that…
Can you test the new Model 3 LR RWD that just came out yesterday? I'm super curious of the 1000km challenge and the sunday drive on that one
Will be identical to LR AWD. Björn got almost same consumption with SR and LR AWD.
@@onlinemaffia oh ok, didnt know that. I assumed its the same rear motor as in LR AWD. Then a test would indeed be interesting.
Overpriced car, G9 and Id.7 offers way more features than this car for the same money
Comprehensive.
Software is hard
I believe, you can shortly buy some Sticker in China, which will give you a haptic feeling, which direction you are actually clicking. The same ist available for the Zeekr 001 pre Facelift steering wheel.
10:29 hahaha
not the hawk tuah moment!
402km. at 96%. Not too good.😮
What is there to kill about a VW ID7? It hardly sells.
Top 3 EV in germany with 2600 sales in September 2024. Don‘t know what your talking about
Beautiful car but the price is just a bad joke. Polestar might not exist in a few years time
With the amount of software glitches, are you sure you want to trust the only way of checking what's behind you in the hands of a single camera? The car is horrendous.
The only way? It doesn't still have two mirrors on the side of the car? Every van and truck on the road must also be lethal then...
@@stevelupton2533 Van and truck have extended side mirrors to help, this car does not. Furthermore, van and trucks are typically not driven by the average joe, the target of the Polestar.
Probably not a lot of Swedish steel (or tech) in that thing and it will be their downfall, unfortunately…
How proud these engineers must be releasing such shitty unfinished cars....
It's not down to the engineers mate and I can bet they're disappointed, it's down to the accountants and senior leadership team that build everything down to a price.
If you're going to hate on someone make sures it's directed appropriately
Software done by Bethesta, EA, UBi Soft or so.... Youn can get an early acces and you can start 3 Day's before final release.....🤑🤮
So heavy, inefficient, buggy software. Rough start for sure
This car seems to be an unfinished product.
A very expensive car with software bugs, poor design decisions, no proper buttons 'n switches, etc etc.....
Annoyed
Bjørn
Complains 😅
Range test straight to the scrapyard.
😏. Such pretty car and then so buggy. 🥴
Chinese Software is still 👎.
Not the one from Huawei. I hope Bjorn will be able to test the Avatr in Thailand.
The car has Android Automotive
@bjornnyland Polestar is a Swedish company. You of all people should know better than saying Chinese car. Yes it is manufactured in China but so is iPhone and you dont say Chinese phone about that, right?
Its based on a chinese plattform even...
@@UgglemannenFTW yes but the car is designed in Sweden, the company is headquarted in Sweden, the car has software from USA, is engineered in UK, soon also manufactured in South Korea.
This car seems to be loaded with bad design. No rear-view mirror, steering wheel buttons with haptic feedback that often do not work and when they do work they are extremely laggy, weird software bugs.
If it cost ~20k EUR, then one might say: "It is not great, but it is not terrible, either". However, this car's price starts at over 55k EUR. Yes, it has a large battery. But battery capacity is not everything. And on top of the bad design and software bugs, it also seems fairly inefficient (~220 Wh / km @ 120 km/h).
This will be my next car after nearly 4 happy years with my Polestar 2. Nothing can beat this regards price point and quality and i have test driven all the competitors. I wouldnt even say this is a Tesla competitor, because Tesla is trash. Never ever a Tesla again.
why no Tesla or some MEB platform car? This seems to be a super buggy car compared to the polestar 2... overpriced chinese car.
Yet a Tesla Model 3 is still way more efficient ,has by far better software and is also better value.
@@alancobbin i had a Tesla model 3 before. Yes it has better range and software but thats only it. The quality , ride handling , service , and materials are shit compared to Polestar. And it breaks down all the time also. Not only me but i know many people who had tons of issues with their Teslas.
@@cos_marc Test drive it and you will see why i ordered it 😎. Interior felt much more premium than the Mercedes EQE SUV
@@quavohuncho6156just try the new model 3. Its something else
Not at all, this P7+ will save Volkswagen Group: th-cam.com/video/90AogUaCSEM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eQLj8wpWKRvWk17k, and ithers too... Polestar is nit so nice compared to others Chinese brands...
What a horrible car.... from a drivers position
Nobody has to kill the ID 7, VW will do that itself.
Expensive cars that have all kinds of bugs and things that dont work. Huh!
Im glad we cant buy chinese cars here in canada! 👍
