Hi, my name is Marcus (M26) and my father (M48) recently moved into my house. Things have been tough between mom and dad, so they decided to part ways. I don't blame mom for leaving dad, he had not been faithful and he caused her a lot of stress trying to get their marriage to work. Let me take you through my life with my parents before they divorced. My mom was and still is a midwife at the hospital in town and my dad was an architect. He was the senior manager and so he was allowed to have the secretary (F39) as his personal assistant. Even though my mother was working full time, she always made time for her family, that is dad and I. She made sure to make dinner before she went to work if she was working during the night, apart from that, she would make sure that laundry is done and that the house is clean. She is everything a man wants in a woman, but my dad was too blind to see it.
My parents had the best relationship when I was growing up, mom made sure that I had something to eat and dad always made sure that I would get to school on time. They shared responsibilities as a wonderful married couple. I am the only child they have and it hurts to see that they have separated but maybe it was for the best.

Honestly, the Op should have gotten suspicious when daddy dearest move his new wife into his son's home, instead of trying to find somewhere else to live out his new life with his new partner. I bet the dad lied and said that the house was his, and was allowing Op to use it for a time. Girl thought she hit a jackpot when she was really living in a lie. Op should honestly kick the dad out anyway, because he is only being taught that his dear son will help him when everything in his life goes to the dogs. It has been too long for this grown man, who has gone and got married to his affair partner, to still be living with his son.
Daddy relied on his wife as a servant and was treating his son the same. The dad was an incompetent hack.
I think the fact that his Dad had been fired from his job and was job-hunting probably made OP feel sorry for him. More sorry than he rightly deserved, but he was going through a lot (making his own way in life, his parents breaking up and divorcing, his Dad having an affair.) Still, I would have put a stop to it sooner, but it is easy for me to judge when it is not my parents we are talking about. The people who gave you life have a different place in your heart, whether you want to admit it or not. At least, if you have a good relationship with them. If you don’t, I suppose it would be easier to draw the line and kick them out.

His biggest mistake was HONORING his father's request not to tell his wife that the son really owned that house. She thought the father owned the house and the kid was the one staying there rent free. Because he was about to start a new relationship with a woman close to his own age and was afraid of his stepmother being rude or inappropriate and ruining the visit I would have sat down with BOTH my step mother AND father the day before the visit and explained to them that I am the owner of the house and if either of them does or says anything that ruins my visit with my new potential girlfriend then I will immediately evict them both and never allow them back in my house AT ALL not even for a brief visit.
Needed to do it before that day, far enough ahead that either Patricia could come to terms with it, or be out of the house. As it happened, it sems like OP was using this meeting with Viola just to tick on another unnecessary reason to kick Patricia out, when he already has sufficient reasons. Patricia's not going to turn on a dime, and would probably fight to stay.

Dad was allegedly moving in until he got his act together. By the 8-month mark, he would have been on notice that his tenancy was coming to an end. As for the juice glass, I would have smashed it ending that nonsense and putting her on notice that her opinion didn't matter in my house. The wine would have been locked up preventing her and her friends from guzzling it down. OP let that go on far too long.

On the topic of weird timing with the OP's decisions, it looks like he did NOT kick her out immediately after ruining his chances with his new girlfriend (he did not yet know that he would be able to salvage that relationship at a later time and even if he had known even TRYING to ruin a relationship is crossing the line). Somehow at a later date he only kicked her out in response to her threatening to kick him out. (that was VERY nervy of her because even though she thought her husband owned the house, even IF she had been right about that what made her so sure that he would kick his own son out to please her? Pretty presumptuous if you ask me?).

My step father came into my house like Lord of the Manor when he got my mom. She was a widow, my father passed away leaving a house, insurance, and his pension from being a County Engineer. Step was making minimum wage and sharing an apartment with his mother. I was only under the same roof with him for 2 years when I got thrown out one night, with no car and no where to go. I was 18 but a girl with no real life experience. I got by but it was a horrible shock to me.
