The sciatic nerves goes down the lower back into the back of the leg and into the foot. Sciatica is a set of symptoms or pain along the sciatic nerve's pathway. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body; it affects a large area within the body. As such, symptoms can be very different for each patient dealing with this sciatic compression. Sciatica is not one type of problem or issue. It can be many different things a patient is experiencing.
Symptoms of sciatica are case specific, ranging from pain in the lower back, pain or numbness in the lower body, leg, decreased motion, and muscle weakness. The sciatic nerve can affect motor function and sensory control.
Commonly Sciatica is diagnosed in patients with an MRI. Anything that compresses the nerve tissue can lead to this problem occurring.
How long sciatica lasts is dependent on the causation. In some cases, it can be temporary, a result of inflammation, or some type of injury that occurred. These tend to resolve in 4-6 weeks. If caused by an underlying spinal condition that has to do more with alignment left untreated, it can last many years. 20-30 percent of patients who experience sciatica pain will experience symptoms for up to 2 years or longer.
There are two ways of treating sciatica
    - symptom type treatment
    - address the cause of the sciatica
At The Scoliosis Reduction Center, we offer proactive treatment to deal with the alignment issue and try to stop the alignment from becoming worse. These treatments normally combine multiple treatment approaches to deliver the best results possible, so the results will be more long-lasting and more dealing with the cause instead of symptoms.

I have a l4 l5 herniated disc. My back doesn't hurt at all anymore. It's my left calf which hurts or cramps up a lot when I stand up or walk. The pain starts after 1 or 2 minutes after standing up. as soon as I sit down or squad I feel relief. That's opposite of what I hear in the many videos I've seen about herniated discs and sciatica.

Thank you. I’ve a severe case since Thanksgiving. As someone who has had RA for 20 years, that is a cakewalk compared to this. I have been going to P, which has helped. But, it’s not healing me. The pain is horrible.

I'm have been dealing with cyclical sciatica for the last 6 months that developes over night, peaking in early AM gradually subsiding to a moderate pain level as the day progresses. Sleeping in a bed is torturous with sudden sharp developing pain around 2 AM. Meloxicam is taken once a day at the highest 7 AM pain level which seems to help moderate the pain. Walking without a cane is torturous at best. I finding that by placing a small cushion just above & along the belt line in the back while sleeping overnight in a recliner seems to improve my condition. I'm suspecting this relieves the soft tissue pressure pressing across the opening where the nerves exit L-4 & L-5 instead of inside the vertebrae opening.

At present, the numbness of lower abdomen and inner thighs are gone however i cant feel my skin in my calves just as I mentioned.

Hello, I really liked this video, you explained so many things about the sciatic nerve. I’ve been suffering with sciatica for 3 years, I finally got operated at the end of October, this year. I had a herniated disc on my L4 L5 S1. I was in crucial pain, not even the opioids could help ease the pain. Now I am better, but unfortunately I still have pain
What can I do? Thank you , I’m writing from Palermo Italy

Hi I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having pain😢 I was just diagnosed with a herniated disk in the same region and sciatica which was super painful last week!
Have you found that the surgery made a big difference, or are you still having major pain, if you don't mind me asking❤?

Trouble is that realignment, though it's important, is not sufficient in its own. It's like straightening the poles on a tent. The ropes (tendons, muscles) take longer to adapt. Sometimes they are more difficult
