Im watching this as I just finished feeding my 15 day old baby; With him over my shoulder patting his back. I switched to the position she showed, and as soon as I did, he let out a big, satisfying burb! Dr. Paul has been my go to for the past 15 days and I'm sure I'll be turning to him for many, many more!
Our very old school pediatrician who was also MY pediatrician taught us a version of this one and during "the witching hours" of colic (that's what she called that time of evening lol) for both of my girls was starting like this- patting, my hand turned palm upwards, flat on their bumholding baby just like she was, and it worked 9/10 times bc the gas was lower in the intestine not just the tummy. They burped normal most of the time but during colic time it was a need to fart and it brought instant relief that you could just see on their little faces. My babies are now 26 and 17.
I had about a 60% success rate burping my 2nd baby by sitting him on his butt, leaning him forward (head supported) and patting. It was extremely satisfying. #3 is due in February, I look forward to giving this a shot!
The only technique that worked with my colicky preemie, was to sit her on my leg and slowly run my hand up her back, sort of straightening her spine, as I went. It never failed and she never spit up doing it like that. So having the spine and neck straight is definitely the key. It also seemed like she passed less gas afterwards.
Crazy how i knew this without being told my baby always burped more when lifting him to switch positions rather than actually trying to get him to burp
Hi! I just wanted to say that when I was six, I loved to watch your videos for some reason. It was in 2016-2017. But I'm not so sure because that was such a long time ago and thank you for making your videos!
I’m having my 4th baby boy in April, he was a big surprise. My husband an I never knew exactly the right way, because it was always different, but what’s she doing is exactly what finally worked for my colic one, which turned out to be the formula back to breast milk cleared it up, I had to supplement with donor milk I didn’t produce enough, but it was the right choice for us. Awesome little video 💗
He's such a calm chill little guy and oh so cute!! I accidentally found out about this technique while desperately trying to burp 3 of my VERY colicky grumpy newborns lol
I thought the same thing with my fourth.. he's 3 months old .. I would be sitting on my nursing chair nursing him and then burping him the old way but never works but when I give up I get up off my chair, I intentionally straighten his back and he would burp every time I do that.
When I was in college, a male friend told me he once babysat his 2 year old nephew. Not knowing any better, he tried to burp the kid after feeding him.
WOW!!! Good to know going forward!!! I never had this kind of guidance when mine with infants or even my grandchildren. Thank you thank you for sharing this because now, if I have an struggling patent around, I might be permitted to try this and can give them a break at the same time. Knowledge is power
As a new born baby myself, I found this video very helpful
😂
Underrated

If the gas is in the lower intestine, wouldn't it come out as a fart instead of a burp?
My son is 9 days old now, it’s currently 4:55 a.m and this video helped me alot!!!! mom is asleep, so we have to get the job done. Thank you

Hello 👋 How are you doing

@PaulThomasMD. what about properly burping an infant do you want to talk about? This video was very good.
What if I'm too small for my baby, to hold her like this? My hands are too little and I'm small

Hello sir my daughter is 4months old now she is crying like severe back arching head and she is not even taking milk
OMG this baby is such a cutie!! :)
I noticed my son burps when he’s tilted, during the transitioning of his position. Do I just lean him forward and back in a upright position.
Does that work with 5day old baby? Why dont u support the neck?
does a 3 yr old require his front 4 teeth to be extracted if they r decayed but there is no infection

I never slapped or tapped on my baby’s back. All I did was rub their back and they relaxed and burped!
