    It looks like you used red oak on your transom just fyi white oak is a way better wood for boat applications. It doesn’t absorb water the way red oak does. But nice job regardless, looks good.

    Absolutely awesome!! Great work. I’ve been looking at several options and I’ve been following you for a few months. I want to try something similar. I’ve done woodwork fit many years and need to learn the glassing, painting, etc but it looks manageable. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    Just a small comment on building for others. Totally doable but remember your plans technically allow you to build one hull. You might be able to work something out with bateau, but make sure you buy a set of plans for any customer boat you build. Would hate for you to encounter some legal trouble.

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My plan would be to talk to Bateau first. At minimum, I would purchase a plan for every boat.

    It’s a great looking boat 👍 the reason for removing the sealant around the bottom of your hand rail is it’s an area we’re dirt and gunk can accumulate and looks bad , so as a retired boat and yacht builder of 32 years you asked should you build more boats, now I have to ask you , why , if your going to build them as a hobby pastime ? Do you want to build them to possibly make a profit as a side job or even turn them into a business, if you plan on building them to make a profit and a business I would tell you to make a mold for the hull and deck instead of all wood and glass construction, make those parts with fiberglass and composite construction, they will last longer down the road , the down side composite costs more ,the good point the size of the boat not a lot of material is needed, you would need to figure out your material cost estimation labor and over head, what materials like resin and glass layup are you going to use , epoxy resin or GP ( general purpose ) resin , will you gelcoat the hull and deck or paint it ? So there are many questions , if you plan two or three boats for friends, family or a past time , build them the way you built your boat , if your going into mass production go with glass molds , hope it helps , great little boat my friend 👍

      @SchwindOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate the comments that you are leaving on the page! This one in particular was very helpful and was just in time. My wife and I were just having a conversation about what it would take to get a mold of this boat or something similar. I would love to have a mold and to make a few boats each year to see if I can turn it into a business. I have many questions about the process though. The first being, how to you create a mold? What are the legal ramifications of creating a mold from a boat that was built by copyrighted plans? How much does it cost to have a mold made? It is definitely something that I am interested in, as I think there is a market for a small skiff that can hold two people, be parked in a garage, and not be too expensive.

    • @davescheer5038
      @davescheer5038 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchwindOutdoors ; hey bud , well now I know where your thinking , I to think that there is a market for this and maybe something just a bit bigger, so as far as the copyright issue you can’t build one from their plans at all , from what I was told the style of the boat has to be changed 17% but that would need to be double checked to make sure , now making changes to their style or plans shouldn’t be that hard as you could make it a bit wider & longer , add a inch to the sides , different deck hatch lay out , or other changes that you may think might be a better lay out , now on making a mold and this is the interesting part of stitch and glue , you build your Hull and reinforce its called a plug , and it will be glassed , sanded, faired to make it straight and gelcoated with tooling gelcoat, the gelcoat will have to be sanded and polished as this will be the finish on your mold , the mold is usually sanded , polished to a mirror finish, it wil be waxed with mold release wax allowed to dry in between each coat of wax and will need six to ten coats making sure not to miss any part of the mold , ( building you new Hull) the mold should be ready for you to spray the color gelcoat you choose , the gelcoat gets catalyst and it needs to be 22 millimeters thick when wet after it dries you do a 3/4 Oz skin coat of glass mat ( skin coat) make sure all air bubbles are out , if you have any air bubbles left in it will become a blister on your finished Hull part or will chip out , from there you add your lay up for your desired Hull thickness and strength, now you can add your stingers cross members , transom ( wood or composite ) so from there add in what you need to be integrated, bait wells , flotation and such , and you would have the deck mold to do . so then if your going to turn this into a business you have to do all the legal stuff , registration numbers and then you will have to get your boat approved by coastguard , so there is a lot involved, but once you gotten it all squared away and invested a lot of hard earned cash your ready to build boats ! My advise is go see a working boat building company, ask questions and see if this is what you want to do , hope I helped some , waiting to see your next video, 👍🏼. It might be cheaper to have the Hull and deck made depending on who you have make it , that are expensive, and you are talented enough to make your own , ( just remember if your building boats all the time -- you don’t get to go fish’n 🤣. )
