    Thank you Mr. Smith for sharing this build with Jeff. Your 'celebration of the wood" really produced a beautiful little boat. Very nice work. Thank you Jeff for sharing this with us.

    Thank you so much for the videos. I am in love with this little boat. I think this is going to be my first boat build as an adult. In FFA I built the one sheet of plywood one-man boat, and I am definitely looking forward to building some more. I’m interested in purchasing the plans for this boat

    This is a great design and build Jeff!! It is quite similar to an Au Sable River (Michigan) boat that is popular for fly fishing.

    That's a great looking design Jeff. Nice and wide with a good rocker on it, should be real stable for casting while standing up.
    Beau, you did a real nice job putting her all together. Your use of the different colored wood and the pattern you made with it looks fantastic. The matching bow plate and paddle, classy. I appreciate the detail you included in your video. I'm going to use some of your ideas when I build my stiff back, I like how yours came out. Hard to go wrong with gussets. I would have liked to have seen some detail on the trolling motor mount you came up with. I'm sure there was a bit more than just clamping the motor to the transom. I'm curious about your seat set up as well, can you move it to different positions along the boat. I'm especially encouraged by the demonstrated performance. I'm built pretty much the same as you. You sharing that was welcome information.
    The low and long profile give it a really sleek look. It reminds me of the river racing boats in Thailand. I'm a big fan of mud motors, it's not hard to imagine one on the back of your little beauty. That would get you across those salt flats in a hurry.
    Jeff, I'd have to say that I'm happy that you accepted the challenge, looks like you knocked it out of the park.

      Bob, you can clamp the trolling motor directly to the transom. I used a piece of PVC pipe to extend the trolling motor handle. I will design a lever and cable system to steer the trolling motor at some point so I don’t has to twist around to steer it. The seat is fixed in place. It serves as structure for the modification I made to the aft section. When I modified the transom I used a 1x4 and attached it with epoxy and fiberglass. The 1x4 is positioned perpendicular to the waterline because I wanted to keep the length under 16ft. I used 1x2 material and attached them to the transom and seat frames. I raised the sides up with the same 1/4 inch Sandyply as the hull is made from. If I made another one that I intended to use a trolling motor on, I would make the sides and the transom of the boat taller in the aft section. It paddles so nice I wouldn’t want to change the geometry of the bottom. The trolling motor is a luxury. The boat really does not need one.

      @@beausworkshop3157Thanks for the response. I've got it, your transom is more vertical than is shown on the plan. That would certainly simplify the motor mounting. I'm assuming keeping it under 16' is for registration fee reasons, in my state, the fee doubles at 16'. I've gone back and looked at your seat arrangement. I see now that it is structural. Is it tall enough to put the battery under? It appears that you also raised the gunnells behind the seat, along with the transom.
      I just might need to order this plan, it will be the second one I've ordered from Jeff.
      Again, I think you did a great job putting it all together. Looks like your son enjoys it as well.

    Would of liked to have seen A stand still side shot with your boat fully loaded to see how deep it sets in the water, how much does it weigh ? And what was the total cost? I’m thinking of building a stitch and glue flats boat .

    • @tjkid07
      @tjkid07  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you download free the study prints, it has the fully loaded displacement, draft, and hull weight (if built from Douglas fir) on the first page and a bill of materials on the second. With the bill of materials you can estimate the cost based on what materials you choose to use and what they cost locally where you are. There is no way for me to guess where you live, if you have materials already, which materials you would want to use, and what those materials cost cost where you are.

      @@tjkid07 , thanks for the info, I’m kinda undecided on weather to build a stitch and glue hull or use the stitch and glue hull method as a one off female mold to make a solid fiberglass hull and not have to worry about wood rot or de lamination down the road , I live about 1/4 mile from Fiberglass Coatings in west central Florida and I’m a retired yacht and boat builder of 32 yrs , so I’ve got a good idea on what it will cost depending on which route I take , I’ve built plugs and molds but never did a stitch & glue so this is something new to try for myself ( build my own flats boat , tie my own fly’s , and catch a big tarpon , one of those bucket list things ! ) 🤔👍🏼

    Would it be possible to build this boat as a 10'? Would it be stable?

    • @darenleeper1644
      @darenleeper1644 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Paddle board is 10ft by 33 some what stable with one person. When I bring my 10 yo son out in it we always hit the dip when we both stand. These boats originally where design for person in back to push pole while person in front sits and shoots flushung rail birds. For that use I would say 10 ft would not be stable. Mr spira just passed so he won't be able to answer or Design you one.
