My family clubbed together and bought me a 15 year old 19 foot Scout last October. 1st boat I owned. Gotta say I was nervous to start with. Towing/putting boat in and out of water/winds,tide,current,anchoring etc. But now it comes 2nd nature and I wouldnt be without it. Its totally changed my life both fishing and family. A TH-camr I watch here in Tx has a similar Skiff (Thresher Fishing) and he takes his out for great sessions. Have a great time in it mate. Enjoy!
That's awesome you were able to take out your very own boat for it's maiden voyage!! I've contemplated building my own boat for many years, but I always jump way too deep into projects and I've talked myself out of it many times. Glad your boat worked out well for you and was more stable than you originally thought it would be.
Just seen this. I am a finish carpenter for the better part of my life and always wanted to build a boat for getting up some shallow water. To my favorite fly-fishing spot. This is by far the one that has me the most excited, very cool my friend!!!!
That's great to hear! It was a fun project. I'll be putting out a video soon talking about a few things that I would have done differently. Thanks for the comment!
Happy days. Tight lines. She is a beautiful piece o work. I started cutting my wood stencils and parts over the last week. But……..all packed away for the next 8 weeks while I am at work.
Great job on the skiff! I have been contemplating this design as well as the FS14… but, with cost of materials I’ve switched to looking for a bare hull to start with and rebuild
Awesome man. I would add a rubber rub rail if your concerned about bumping the boat at the dock while launching. And it is never too windy to fish for redfish in that area!
Yeah, the rub rail is already in the works. The concern with the wind was that I wasn't rigged up with anyway to anchor or slow down my boat. I was blowing so fast that I had no control over my lure.
Impressive performance from 8hp but think there is more to be had then what the SK14 delivers. Might be a good starting point for my design though. TFS
@@SchwindOutdoors Cool looking forward to it it. I am in the middle of building a sk14. Yours look fast enough the water I am going with a 8HP too. Your videos helped inspire me to do one, thank you.
Man, that means a lot. I really appreciate it! You can purchase the plans through BoatBuilderCentral.com and build one. I'm also considering building some and selling them, if you're interested.
Thanks! I purchased the plans, but no template. I had to dimension each piece out onto plywood. I got the plans from boatbuildercentral.com. This model is called the SK14.
@@SchwindOutdoors Oh wow! You did an amazing job. Lots of fun fishing trips ahead for you and your mini-me. 😂 Thanks for the info. Thinking about building my own after pricing out 2 stand up paddle boards.
Thank you! The registration process isn't too crazy here. You first have to get it inspected by a Game Warden. Make sure you save receipts for the materials, as they will ask for them. Congrats bro. How money kg this microskiff without motor?
Great boat. It looks like a Gheenoe. It's nice that you can move that trailer by hand. Is that EVA foam decking? Have you ever used it before. Is it tough? Thanks. I'm re doing an old StarCraft and wondering if EVA will have longevity.
Thanks you! I love that the boat is small enough that I can maneuver it by hand on my own. It also fits in the garage really well. Yes, the decking is from MarineMat. I like it so far. The only two things that I would complain about at this point would be that it is kind of hard to clean and that a power washer will cut into it fairly easily....
I have! I've fished twice out of it so far. I'll be putting a video together at the end of the month! Feel free to check out my Instagram to see pictures of what I'm up to with it.
you should always have an engine bolted on so it doesn't fling itself off very dangerous not to or at least have a strip of wood to keep it from sliding up while turning
How is the stability at the bow? I’ve been looking around for plans to build myself, are you able to stand and fish from the bow without any issues? And if so, do you think you’d be able to hang a smaller bow mount trolling motor from it? Or would that likely be too much for it
Yes and yes. I can easily stand on the bow and fish. I have no problem fly fishing up there while someone else holds the tiller and puts us around. I have seen where other guys have mounted a trolling motor on their bow. It looks cramped, but I imagine it works well!
Thanks for videos, I got my plans for the sk14 today, talked to boatbuilders about adding width and 2” height they said NO. What do you think? I’m 80 and need all the stability I can get, is there any way to see your boat before I start building. Thanks. Dean
Man, that motor seems so gianormous nd excessive for that little mini-skiff. I bet a 5 h.p. would push her along just fine; probably would even plane. Better yet, put an electric on it and be eco-friendly and sneak up on those fish.
😂. “It’s a little too windy to fish.” Proceeds to cast.
I don’t blame you my brother.
This thing’s incredible. I’m inspired!
Thank you sir! I really appreciate that! It has been a fun little boat.
Congrats on the skiff, it looks great! It is hard to describe how great it feels when a boat you build exceeds your expectations!

Channel? Dude, you don't need no stinkin' channel with that little beauty. Congratulations on your fully successful build.
Such a beautiful build I can't wait to make mine
Thanks man!

Hi cool video. looking forward to the next video.
Great to see it on the water! great job
Awesome ride!
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
Sick ride man been waiting to see it in the water looks like your gonna have a hell of a time! Skiff changed the game man glad I got me one too
Awesome job Miguel!
I made one and just purchased a motor. She looks to be a relatively dry ride. Good job.
Looks amazing, stoked for you!!
Thank you!
Great video! It's awesome seeing the skiff in action!

Congrats! Man I been waiting to see the launch. Looks like it’s running good and handling quite well. Good work. Time to get some rubrails!
Thanks buddy! Man you're not lying about the rubrails. I already skuffed up the edge and it's only been out once!
Congrats on the first run of your new boat! The looks fantastic and seems to perform very well. Nice work, Aggie! Gig ‘em!
I appreciate it! I've taken her out a couple more times since then and it is just great. I preforms better than I had expected. Gig em!

That's a nice build I thought the motor was a bit big but seems to work well
The motor works really well! I'm happy I decided to go with the 8hp.
How am I just seeing this now? I've been looking forward to seeing that thing in action for a while. Congrats, looks great.
Thanks man, I appreciate that! It is a blast!
I'd put a twist throttle on the bar. And one on the left for reverse.
Not a bad idea at all.
Maybe if that's not doable, then twist normal for go and twist forward for reverse
Love it...!
Thank you!
Interested to see how the push pole works. Concerned ittl try to float on u.
It'll be interesting to test out. It might be tough in deeper water but I'm betting it'll do fine in 2 ft or less.
Whens the actual speed test. Looks awsome. Great job.
Man, I'm hoping I can do the speed test soon! I'm ready to get back on the water!

Do you have all the boat lights on her?
Not yet. Just been running during the day so far.
Aggie Ingenuity! Gig ‘em.
The boat looked nice a sturdy. Where did you go and put her in the water to test her out?
Good to hear from you, Art! She's solid for sure. I put her in at Bluffs Landing in Corpus.
Great job on the build! I'm nearing completion on my build and was wondering what the registration process is like here in Texas?

Looks awsome, what hp outboard did you put on her?
I put an 8hp Tohatsu on her. I probably could have gone up to a 9.9, but she goes plenty fast for me!

It's an 8 HP.

perfect skill. i put my comment here to win one of your boat . hahhhahh
I have been looking at building this boat. Your build looks amazing. How many hours did you spend building it?
Man I appreciate that! It was a lot of fun to build and it is a blast to run. If I had to guess I'd say it took between 100 and 150 hours to build.
How wide is it?

Nope, I didn't change the design. Mine has about 4-5 inch tall sides.

It just barely gets up on plane with the 8 hp. Works great for what I need!
Now build 3000 more and you have yourself millions in the bank to fish all day long
