    Man I gave up looking for a skiff build that wasn’t overkill, but wasn’t built to only last a couple years. Now I have an idea in my head about what I wanna do and I thank you for that! Well done!

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

    Can't find anything like this in South Africa and would love to give it a go! Exchange rate to US$ kills us though, and all those materials are also imported, so would be cheaper just buying a shitty "bakkie" (roughly translates to little bowl) as we call them. We have an amazing estuary where we live, and I reckon this would also be perfect for my son to start taking out in a while...

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you could get your hands on some marine grade plywood, that would be the most costly part. I have a buddy that built one much more budget friendly using off the shelf products from Home Depot and he loves it!

      @SchwindOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gig'em, buddy! I love the skiff! I recently got a paddleboard paddle for it and used it to push my dad around while he fly fished off the bow. It allows you to have the speed necessary to get around easily while still being able to get into some skinny water like a kayak. The skinniest I've been so far was about 4".

      If the thing is built correctly, it should be able to handle up to a 15hp outboard. I have an 8hp tohatsu for mine. The transom is 3/4" thick and is reinforced heavily with fiberglass.

    Beautiful job man!! Almost done with my 16ft homemade cat skiff. I'm using 1708 instead of 6oz cloth. Honeslty, do you feel that your build should've called for heavier fiberglass? I'm only bringing this up because I'm actually considering doing 2 layers of 1708 not just 1. How does it feel strength wise not that it's all conpletedd??

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man, I really appreciate that! You know, I still haven't had a chance to get it on the water since I've completed it, so I don't think I can give you the best answer. I will say that it feels tough. Everything has stiffened up really well. I used 6 in. fiberglass tape on all of the seems before I covered it completely with the cloth.
