Today I’m going to share three common nutritional deficiencies related to sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome and ways to tell which one might be affecting you most.
Vitamins B1, B6, and B12 are intimately involved in the nervous system and may be behind these painful conditions.
    1. Vitamin B6 benefits
    • Helps build the myelin sheath
    • Helps produce neurotransmitters
    • Helps protect sensory nerve integrity
    • Helps increase nerve conduction and velocity
    • Is involved in the metabolism of the nervous system
    Vitamin B6 deficiency causes:
    • Taking the wrong form of vitamin B6 in large amounts
    • Gut inflammation
    • Celiac disease
    • Crohn’s disease
    • Age
    • Certain medications
    • Alcohol
    • Birth control pills
    • Certain genetic variations
    • Smoking
    • Diabetes
    • Excess coffee consumption
    * It’s important to take the active form of vitamin B6, pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P).
    2. Vitamin B12 benefits:
    • Helps support nerve regeneration
    • Helps support myelin production
    • Helps support nerve growth factors
    Vitamin B12 deficiency causes:
    • Certain genetic factors
    • Lack of animal products in the diet
    • Low stomach acid
    • Excess consumption of folic acid
    • Alcohol
    • Diabetes
    • Malabsorption
    • Birth control pills
    * It’s important to take the natural form of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin.
    3. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) benefits:
    • Helps support blood flow to the nerves
    • Helps counter the complications of diabetes
    Vitamin B1 deficiency causes:
    • Diabetes, prediabetes, and insulin resistance
    • Excess coffee consumption
    • Excess tea consumption
    * It’s important to take the fat-soluble version of vitamin B1, benfotiamine.

I have lost 40 pounds in 9 months, stopped having heartbeat skipping issues, and stopped needing drugs for Ulcerative Colitis, all from your videos. Keto with IF, eating two meals a day has worked for me! Thanks for the work you do. It would be nice to get my daughters to do this diet, but they will have to come to their own decisions at their owm times.

    A few facts first:
    1. P5P (active B6) is required to absorb and utilize B12.
    2. P5P is involved in synthesis of the protein IF which is required to decouple and transport B12
    3. P5P along with zinc is involved in stimulation of stomach acids from parietal cells of gastric lining
    4. Mylin sheath - P5P is required to synthesise the protein required for myleination , but Coppet is also required as a cofactor during myelination of nerve fibers along with b12.
    5. B12 pathways require potassium during neeve regeneration and condiction.
    6. Sciatic nerve - deficiency of b6, b9, b12, copper, potasium & magnesium (as magnesium is also required for potassium uptake).
    7. Carpal tunnel syndrome - deficiency of b6 mainly, but also of supporting factors b9, b12, copper.
    8. B6 and B1 compete with each other on multiple nuerometabolic pathways. High doses of B6 in isolation will deplete B1 and vice versa.
    9. B1 is more useful for diabetic neuropathy while B6 is critical when neuropathy is triggered by demyleination, with imbalances in neurotransmitters.
    10. In general for nerve issues you need b1, b3, b5, b6, b9, b12 with magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese, zinc with often b6 being the most critical micronutrient.
    11. B1 is hyped a lot, often you do NOT need megadoses of b1 if you keep your magnesium and manganese status adequate as manganese boosts uptake of b1, and magnesium supports thiamine dependent enzymes.
    12. It is totally misplsced to recommend benfotiamine as b1 for diabetic patients as benfotiamune is fat soluble, and most diabetics have liver/pancreas/gall bladder/kidney impairment of some sorts which restrict bile output (required to emulsify and breakdown fat medium), and enzymatic output - lipases to breakdown fat. The best form of thiamine is the water soluble version - thiamine hcl (cheaper) and allthiamine/ttfd (garlic source, more expensive).

One day her doctor did blood work and found out she was anemic and put her on a vitamin called Hematinic which has B vitamins, Folic Acid and Iron. Within 2 weeks my dad asks her…”Hey, you havent complained about your leg anymore!” She had not noticed that after 2 weeks, her pain was gone. Dr Berg is amazing! I started watching his videos in Jan 2023. Numerous medical issues. I went from a mens size 40 waist to boys size 16 in 5 months following his eating clean and vitamin advise. Cut back bad carbs, but not full ketosis! Followed his advise on not getting flabby while dieting and have very little loose skin. None on arms or face. Small amount on waist! I went from my highest weight of 268 lbs to 156 lbs. Back up to 170 lbs on purpose, the weight I was at 18 yrs old when I graduated from Paris Island and was officially a Marine. I weighed 140 when I arrived at Parris Island! The BMI scale is so incorrect. I served 21 years and it was a roller coaster of weight loss and gain following the government rules about dietary needs! His best advice is everyone needs to figure what works for them. You have to pay attention to want your body tells you! It is all about the quality of what you ingest. If you are having cravings, you are lacking something! If after eating you feel bad, you ate something bad!

That’s fantastic! Very interesting indeed. Sciatica is new to me and it’s not severe but I’m glad to have found this video.
I would like to encourage anyone reading this to do some additional research on B vitamins. From what I have learned so far, if our gut is in good shape and we get enough D3, our gut bacteria make all of our B vitamins. Stasha Gominak, neurologist figured out that after a certain period of time of her patients taking D3 and a B complex, that they developed negative symptoms, like burning nerves which meant that their gut was now producing the B vitamins and they were now overloaded. She recommends taking all the B vitamins, so may be a B complex plus additional P5P until you have some neuropathy or other negative symptoms.
She does a lot of podcasts so it’s easy to find her. You might consider making a note of how you feel/your symptoms when you start and just pay attention to your body.

I’ve been having really bad back pain combined with tingling & numbness in my toes lately. I started taking a B vitamin supplement & eating more vegetables high in B6, and while it’s not gone yet, over the past two weeks it has gotten MUCH better than it was. I thought it was mostly due to sitting at a computer for too long every day (I have a desk job), it never occurred to me that the problem could be a B vitamin deficiency. In fact I had been told by doctors NOT to consume too much vitamin B6 because it was “linked to neuropathy”.

My B6 was double the safe levels and I had problems walking straight and my nervous system was always on high alert. Anxiety 24/7. I cut out the B6 in supplements and only get it from food. I feel so much better and my levels are normal. A good multivitamin with low B6 is pure encapsulations multi. If anyone is wondering.

After a week of taking the lysine 3x a day my face started returning to normal. I had a virus in December that was brutal. Also had the chickenpox as a child. The bell palsy was painful in the cold and emotionally upsetting. I really believe the B vitamins and lysine were the key to recovery. I will continue with the b vitamins. I did keto and IF last March and lost 30 lbs and kept it off. I’m 56 so that’s amazing. I’m going back on the plan this week to lose the next 30lbs. 16 hour fast worked the best for me. I developed CTS a few years ago and also a couple of trigger fingers ( knuckles would lock up). I tried everything except surgery before learning about P5P B6 and deciding to give that a try. I started taking 100 - 200 mg daily. After 2 or 3 weeks it all cleared up. I now take 25 - 50 mg, 3 times a week to keep it at bay. There's an out of print book titled 'Vitamin B6 Therapy' by John M Ellis, MD. He discovered all his patients with CTS had a B6 deficiency.

I have the cutest Golden Retriever puppy that is almost a year old now, so she is strong as heck! She pulled me to the side during a walk in January and I was in so much pain and my muscles were not holding my chiropractor’s “ placements” oh. Painful. But after 3 weeks to a month with sciatica, laying low and feeling like a total invalid. I signed up for water aerobics at a local gym. I am having the best time! And in a month I have gotten so much stronger! ( I went to my Chriro today, instead of 30 hits in my left side and 30 hits with gun on my right side of my neck… I had 3 in both places and she said “ what ever you are doing, keep it up!” 🙌
Thank you for this message today because my eyes have been bothering me and also now my right leg is bothering me when I drive and when trying to sleep. So. Yes. I’m going to add these 3 things in to see if this will give me relief.

For me, my vitamin deficiencies occurred after a near fatal car wreck. I was knocked comatose and have been dealing with issues that weren’t present before; magnesium, potassium and B vitamins levels at very low or zero during that time. Brain injury rehab taught me because the brain is injured, it no longer has the ability to tell the body to retain vitamin stores & you constantly have to replenish the body. I have what I call a ‘permanent grocery list’ those items remain on.

For those with Sciatica. I ALSO recommend a pulsating mechanical 'massager' starting from your lower back, down over the bum, back of the leg, behind the knee, over the calf, on the facing outside length of your lower leg/calf and... all the way back up again. A typical massager (battery) lasts 20 mins. Do this twice a day, for a week. You'll see a vast improvement in loss of pain etc.
