    0:00 Introduction: What is sciatica?
0:45 How to relieve sciatica in three steps
1:28 Step 1: Reestablish the curve
3:10 Step 2: Stimulate opposing sciatic nerve
6:50 Step 3: Stretch the quad muscle
    7:30 Thanks for watching
In this video, we’re going to talk about three easy steps you can use to fix sciatic nerve pain.
What is sciatica? Sciatica is pain that travels from your lower back down the back of one leg.
90% of the time, sciatica pain is due to a problem with a spinal disk.
The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body. It runs from your lower back to the bottom of your foot.
Before you use these three steps to help get rid of sciatic nerve pain, rate your pain from 1 to 10. You’ll rate your pain again after you're finished.
Here’s what you’ll need the following things:
    • A foam roller OR a towel to roll up
    • A tennis ball OR someone who can lend a hand
Try these three steps for getting rid of sciatica.
Step 1: reestablish the curve in your lower back
Sitting too long can cause your natural lower back curve to straighten out. Reestablishing this curve is important for getting rid of sciatica.
Simply take your foam roller or towel and lay on it with it under your lower back for five minutes, twice a day. Watch the video at two minutes and twenty seconds to see how it’s done.
Step 2: Stimulate the opposing sciatic nerve
Never stimulate the side of the nerve that is causing you pain. If you have pain on your right side, massage the left side.
If you don’t have someone to help massage the back of your leg, use a tennis ball under your leg while sitting or laying.
Watch the video at three minutes and thirty seconds to see how it’s done.
Step 3: Stretch the quad muscle on the same side you have sciatica
You want to stretch your quadriceps on the same side you have pain. You can do this by holding one leg up with your hand while holding onto the back of a chair or other solid object.
Watch the video at seven minutes and fifteen seconds to see how it’s done.
Try these three steps and rate your pain again. Let me know what your results are in the comments below.

I had sciatica pain for three days and couldn't get off the bed. I checked on TH-cam if Dr Berg had done a video on Sciatica and found this video. I rolled the towel and placed it under my lower back 3 times and like magic when I got off the bed and stood up my pain was gone! It is the month of Ramadan and I pray that Allah blesses you and your family. You are truly a gift to all the people. Thank you so much wonderful Dr Berg. 🌟🙂

I needed to come back and thank Dr Berg. After two weeks of excrutiating pain, my pain went away in literally 5 min after doing excercise number 1. My husband helped me get up of course. I was in so much pain while I had the towel underneath. When I got up, I was in tears and said I hate my life. In those 5 minutes, i must have adjusted my lumbar and as result, the nerve was no longer being pressured. 8 hours later, I am able to do my therapy stretches pain free. This exercise will be a part of my life now. Morning and night. I never ever want to experience this awful pain again. Again, thank you!

The exercise #3 amazingly made my sciatic nerve pain go away in seconds! I had pain for the last 2 month, did MRI and doctors believed wrongly the pain came from a herniated disc. All the exercises I've done previously had no effect. The quad stretch amazingly took my #8 level pain down to zero instantly. I'm so happy. Thx Dr. Berg!

I don't know what inspires you to do these videos, but you are a godsend! I have been suffering lower back pain for 5 days with 4 days to go on our family's Cedar Point trip. I noticed your thumbnail after I told my wife "the pain is starting to move down my right leg". My wife then messaged my left leg, as instructed, and then OMG! I then immediately started doing the stretches and then "OMG! OMG! OMG!'" I said. I can touch my toes! I will be stretching from now on and will watch my sciatic nerve from now on. Thanks, Doc.

Applied gentle pressure right below my liver, around gall bladder area for 3 mins. Boom, all the pains went away. Root caused and figured out wrongs I did in last few days in my diet. I watched your video about sciatica, and using copper if the condition was genetically caused. Well, I experimented and the copper not only helped with the sciatica, but helped the inflammation in my knee and shoulder. I had my meniscus repaired last summer and was left with inflammation from the arthritis in my knee. From limping around on my knee, I developed sciatica. I had treatment but was left with some pain. The copper was a last resort for and it helped with both my knee and back. I can’t stand a long time on my knee but it is so much better thanks to you. Keep the videos coming, they have really helped me.

I am wondering about this myself. My pain is quite centralized in my right buttock, like a constant cramp. When I palpate my right hip and buttock area, I feel numerous knots and round bumps. All is quite tender. My pain travels to the front of my thigh, not the back, and then the front of my lower leg or shin, skipping my knee. It doesn't go all the way into my foot. The pain in my glutes is unbearable. I have three herniated disk with one big one (5/7 mmm) where MRI states possible nerve impingement. The only thing is that I read that piriformis syndrome feels worse by sitting, which doesn't apply. The only relief I get now is sitting. I cannot lie down or stand, never mind walking, without severe pain.

Hi Eric. Mine is about a 6 when I'm trying to get into the ruku - back horizontal to the ground with arms straight and grabbing the knees - position during prayers. Mainly a sharp numbness which feels like lots of nerve fibres are all firing at the same time. Usually takes less than a second to get into this position but during this sciatica stint it's taking me about 5 seconds. I've also noticed that sneezing or coughing whilst in this position and stretching my back, there's no pain. When sneezing or coughing gemerally the pain shots up to about an 8 or 9...

This came at a great time, just started taking 12 chlorella 4 3x's a day from watching your other video for digestion, because I can not take hcl or acv. I also learned that I have pain going half way down my left leg from my lower left back (thinking it maybe from my ectopic kidney) and I came to find out it's from inflammation from years of when I smoked, thinking I was eating the right foods (which I was, but not organic).I was doing stretching workouts through Tiffany Rothe over a year ago and felt a shift or something pulling my back where my disks are. Since then I have found new workouts that are excellent and very effective. I can do leg lifts, but can not sit too long and I can only use my recliner 1/4 way up when I'm on the couch. If I'm driving or passenger, I can only sit for a little bit, because it starts to hurt. I am trying to do the lifting the leg bend holding the foot as close to the buttocks as possible like I used to do , but not even close yet, but working at it. Thanks for all your very informative information.

As a person who had severe sciatica, I know that maintaining ideal weight takes unnecessary pressure off the spine (if you were overweight). Also, having strong abdominal muscles helps stabilize the spine so really reduces pain. You should strengthen your tummy & lumbar with isometric exercices when you are lying down, even if you have pain. Isometric means you aren't moving your bones, just flexing the muscles without moving your bones. (It's like doing situps without sitting up, and walking without moving your legs, just clenching & releasing the buttocks.) If you have a severe case, cramping might make this a challenge but trying is worth the effort.

The hip flexor is definitely a contributing factor not only to sciatica but also typical low back pain primarily caused from prolonged sitting and shortening of the hip flexor. Stretching the hip flexors can remove compression to the lumbar where the muscle attaches is to multiple levels of the lumbar spine. I work as a physical therapist and see it very commonly in the senior population that has enjoyed their new La-Z-Boy way too much.

I’ve had Sciatica for almost 20 years, permanent loss of feeling in areas behind one of my legs and stenosis in my foot; including 3 herniated discs. However, these exercises work. What also works are ATI band stretches, a raised middle back pillow (cheap and FSA approved), plenty of exercise (walking the best) and light weight training. Stretching in between sets is the best. You work out and get your stretching done all in one shot. Staying mobile and flexible is very important. The older you get the more stiff you become, so stay limber.
A massager like theragun works for hard to reach areas.

I have an L5S1 herniated disc and had sciatica on my right leg for a year and a half. After having a steroid injection, which helped only for 2 months, the pain returned and every single night before bed I had a 2 hour routine: use my Tens unit on my leg and lower back for 30 min, use my heating pad on my lower back glute and leg an hour, then finish up with massager for 30 min. Most of the time this would let me get to sleep with little pain, but it was getting to the point I was depressed and gaining weight from the pain during the day and eating to cope.
I found some people using foam yoga rollers to push the herniation back in away from the nerve and decided maybe laying on a foam roller would help AND SURE ENOUGH AFTER LAYING ON THE FOAM YOGA ROLER EXACTLY ON MY L5S1 AREA FOR 30 MINUTES THE PAIN HAS LEFT FOR 4 MONTHS NOW. the only thing I do is maintain by using the foam roller once or twice a week to keep the herniation pushed in and hope it heals permanently eventually. In-between roller sessions i sometimes use stretches from the Mckenzie method to help keep it from returning if I've had a long day on my feet or stressed my back.
I was considering quitting my job due to the pain and was beginning to have bad thoughts. Thank God the pain is gone now.

    • @ShaunPPatterson
      @ShaunPPatterson ปีที่แล้ว

@@apandokkam7466 I'm not a doctor or specialist and not qualified to treat people but i had the same excruciating pain, I literally just pushed through it and focused on relaxing my muscles in my back and also focused on the pain in my leg while i laid there. That sciatica was the worst pain for me and i heavily used a TENS unit every day prior to this just to make it through the day. I also used the TENS unit after rolling the first time but didnt need it after the 2nd week and By the third week the leg pain was gone. I must say there are a few small numb areas on the side and backside of my right leg and I don't notice anything unless I touch it with my finger. I'm 100% fine with that because the pain is gone.
Maybe work your way up over a few days, 1 minute, then 2 minutes, then 3. I think 5 or 10 minutes is a good time, I did 30min the first time cause i was ready to die to get rid of the pain I was so desperate. In fact, most other sessions I would just lay on the roller for 5 minutes to maintain and eventually I stopped. I haven't needed to use a roller in over 6 months. I had changed my buddies tires for him 6 months ago and lifting the tires caused my herniated disc and sciatica to act up and I had to roll twice and back to new again. I just avoid improper lifting now.

I’m not sure if I have a sciatica cause extreme pain is only on my butt and it doesn’t go down to my foot. But I will try all of these exercises. Thank you Dr. Berg
