9:50 Learn more about the common genetic problem that may be involved in numb hands!
Today I’m going to share one of the most ignored causes of numb hands and feet or a pins and needles sensation in the hands and feet.
Myelin is the coating around the nervous system, and it allows nerve impulses to travel. Without enough myelin, you may experience paresthesia or abnormal sensations.
One cause of numb hands and feet is diabetes. A thiamine deficiency may also be involved because it’s needed to make myelin. Taking fat-soluble thiamine (benfotiamine) and changing your diet may help improve this situation.
Another big cause of numbness in the hands is a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency is very common.
The loss of myelin commonly occurs in the cervical spine (neck), and the degeneration can lead to various problems throughout the body.
Other symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency:
    • An imbalance in your gait
    • Urinary retention or bladder problems
    • Problems in the feet
    • Shooting pain in the spine when moving your head down
    • Neck stiffness
One of the biggest causes of a vitamin B12 deficiency is a loss of stomach acid, which can happen with age. Without enough stomach acid, you can’t absorb vitamin B12. Betaine hydrochloride can help acidify the stomach and increase B12 absorption.
Other causes of low vitamin B12:
    • A lack of vitamin B12 in the diet
    • Antacids
    • Metformin
    • A certain genetic weakness
    • Inflammation in the stomach or intestines
    • Gastric bypass surgery
You may need to go beyond consuming foods rich in vitamin B12 and take it as a supplement. In my opinion, the best supplement would be methylcobalamin.
If you have a genetic issue, you may need a supplement that contains methylcobalamin, methylfolate, and vitamin B6.

I thought maybe it was due to me being off of work, and reasting. Now I see it was likely the Metformin! It did not come back after I went back to work. Oh that makes me mad! Like many folk I am poorly educated but by no means a fool. Thank you so much for the way you explain things to me. I wish I’d had teachers like you at school. You make things so clear, straightforward and easy to understand. I cannot thank you enough for this. Bless you doctor Berg.

The jar must be “burped” (opened to release gasses) daily or every other day for at least two weeks. The longer you wait the more palatable it’ll be, I prefer to prepare a couple jars in advance. I’ve heard accounts of people fermenting them 2 years or longer so no need to worry about it going bad. In case you were wondering about “botulism” occurring like with garlic infused oils, honey is naturally acidic, therefore, you shouldn’t be concerned but in case you were you can test the PH balance & if it is above 4.6 add a tbsp of Apple cider vinegar in order to bring it down. Hello Dr. Berg,
I've been veiwing your super interesting video podcasts and I am very impressed, given you lots of thumbs up and now am a subscriber. It is a very sureal experience as at this very moment I am listening to you describe every one of the sypmptoms I have had and currently am having. Bladder problems, I won't even go into, but I can tell you it has totally screwed up my ability to get a good nights sleep. Also, I have fairly regular pain, burning and clicking in my cervical spine/neck, pain in my thoracic and lumbar spine/back, numbness in feet and in my hands which also actually wakes me up at night some times. I thought I was going crazy as, often, I'd feel dizziness while walking as though I'd been drinking. I've also been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists and I recently had the releif surgery done on my right hand.
Here's the topper... I've had GERDS for the last 25 years and have struggled trying to get off the proton inhibitors (Omeprozole). I've been pretty good on the diet, i.e. eating a lot of wild salmon and trout, lots of eggs and nuts, cheese, etc. So I apparently do not have enough stomach acid to digest B12. I've got to figure this out. Whenever I have stopped the medication I get terrible reflux. I originally was diagnosed with multiple stomach and esophagus bleeding ulsers. I'm just afraid I'll end up like my mom. She had lost both her stomach and esophagus due to cancer and miraculously lived without them for a long time after a radical procedure to reroute her small intestines. I'm just not keen on those prospects. I'll have to talk to my Doc (VA Internist doctor) and see if he can give me B12 shots perhaps. Thank you so much for the insight. You're awesome sir.
    God Bless,
    Shawn Spencer

About 15 years ago, I had Trigeminal Neuralgia on the left side of my face. It was extremely painful. My neurologist prescribed Gabapentin which I took for two years. Anxious to get off of the medication, I researched the condition and found that it was likely to be from the breakdown of my Myelin Sheath. I started weaning myself off of the Gabapentin and eating one whole avocado each morning with my coffee. With Gabapentin, I had to go very slowly with the process due to the side effects. It worked and I have been pain free for 13 years.
On another subject, Dr. Berg is absolutely wonderful! He has been very helpful with his expertise and calm, caring attitude.

In my investigation of ‘ Trigeminal Neuralgia’ previously known as ‘Tic Douloureux’, I found information that the condition was likely caused by damage to the Myelin Sheath. The Myelin Sheath acts as a protective covering that surrounds nerve fibers. This covering is also described as a ‘fatty insulation’.
Avocados are rich in polyunsaturated and mono saturated fats which are the healthy fats. They also contain many other vitamin’s, minerals and oxidants such as:
Vitamin K,C,E,B6,B9, potassium, lutein, folate, magnesium, glutathione, oleic acid in addition to fiber. I weighed my options and decided to take a chance and it worked for me. I’m not a doctor so I certainly can’t say that it will work for anyone else. Thank you for your question.

This is so true. I can't absorb B12 from food anymore after bowel surgery for my Crohn's, and after skipping my B12 injection for a few months (long story) I have experienced awful side effects such as tingling/burning hands and feet, dizziness, extreme fatigue, and muscle spasms. Luckily I'm getting back on track with the shots and am slowly beginning to feel better. But it's just crazy how many issues a single vitamin deficiency can cause-and think about how many the average person is deficient in due to the modern diet. No wonder so many people are sick and unhealthy.

People will also have a specific pattern of muscle tension, that when relieved, clears up the symptoms. The tension is at the shoulders near the neck, at the should blade on the side near the spine and on the other side, by the shoulder / armpit area (in like a thin tender line near where your shirt sleeve would be sewn), and in the muscular bundle at the top of your forearm. Working on all of these areas, gently trying to hypnotize the nerves into relaxing using massage movements, will help relieve all the symptoms. Sufferers are normally unaware of the high degree of painful tenderness in the muscles of these specific areas.

Just a very important side note: Tinnitus is caused by myelin sheath damage, It's either your body doesn't absorb much B12 or there is a big bone pressing on your nerves from pressure like in mandibular prognathism or TMJ cases. If you have any of these conditions then you may need surgery to correct the bone structure and lessen the pressure on nerves, If not then take B12 needles but with the help of a doctor only to monitor your blood levels.
Many people who took high doses of B12 through needles have had their tinnitus improve or disappear.
