    You sure got your hands full building your own home,not only building,but transforming this massive building that use to be a business to your home,that is alot of work,but the satisfaction and knowing everything you put in to it will be so worth it in the end.✌💜

      Yes for sure. We definitely have our hands full! It’s a lot of fun though.

    You could put in an indoor sports center. Basketball, soccer, wiffle ball,etc. Your house will be full of kids forever. Also an extra kitchen for the kids to use is a good send. Nothing fancy just functional

    I’m so glad you got a professional to come in. Older brick buildings are seriously dangerous.
    I had a friend who bought an old high school.
    From the early’20s he used the gymnasium and auditorium for his door business.
    Out of nowhere foreseeable a wall on the opposite side.
    Which wasn’t involved in the business.
    Let loose from the second floor to the ground.
    You were getting too overwhelmed and spent.
    I know that look well.
    Your Family is going to need you to explore many more years.
    Bringing life back into darkness.
    Those upstairs windows have done the job. 🍀

      Wow, that is scary! It would be pretty terrible to have a wall collapse. A lot of the brick walls are being reinforced with interior stud walls which hopefully will help the old brick hold up.
      Thanks for the encouragement!

    This looks really great all opened up. When your boys become teens, they will want their own hang out area and you definitely have the space for it. Looks great so far.

    Have you ever thought about taking the other side of the building possibly and using it for a home business?

    Found you in the shorts and the project seems so interesting! Something that is really satisfying is usually the time-lapse of u cleaning,/ripping/refreshing stuff. Idk if this will help you grow, but I wish you best of luck! I'm following from Italy!

    It would be interesting to have access to photos of the building when the businesses were operating there

    I've enjoyed watching some of your videos, but I'm so curious - what was so appealing about converting this commercial space into a home? Also, what is appealing about living in such a large space? Do you intend to use the entire 10,000sq ft for a home/living space, or will some of it be a business, apartments, etc? I'm not trying to be critical, just curious, as you don't see this often. 🙂

      Good questions! We just recorded a Q&A video that we will be posting here on the channel soon to answer some of these questions and help people get to know us and our vision for the building a bit better. Thanks for following along!

    How much did the second floor cost? (with framing and without) with labour and materials? Thank you.

    • @ourcafehouse
      @ourcafehouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember the exact amount but we paid a company to frame in the second floor extension for around $8,000

    How tall are your ceilings?

    • @ourcafehouse
      @ourcafehouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some of the rooms have around 20ft ceilings

    If I were you, I would be having at least TWO staircases to enter and exit the 2nd floor for safety reasons.. In case of fire, you need to have QUICK access to an escape route, rather than finding your way across to the other side of the building to the only staircase.. I'm wondering if you could get an occupancy permit without having 2 ways of exiting.. That's why I think you need an architect for a real floor plan.. He would know all the legal, safe requirements for your area..
    I pray for many blessings to rain down on you from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.. ❤🙏

      Homes in the US only have one staircase for about the last 100 years. You just need to have a window in every bedroom, that is your second exit.
