- This video is a start-to-finish DIY renovation time lapse of an abandoned warehouse-style building in Chicago. This abandoned building was completely trashed when I bought it in 2020, and I spent 4 years of my life renovating it to create my dream home and workshop. I documented the renovation process in over 50 TH-cam videos, and I’ve done my best to combine all those videos into one start-to-finish renovation video here.

Thank you to everyone for all the amazingly kind words in the comments, and for being with me on this journey! I can't believe its been 4 years. If you'd have told me when I was graduating high school that this is what I'd be doing with my life, I would never have believed you.... Life is strange, and wonderful, and through the ups and downs, its an amazing world, where any one of us can truly be anything we want to be. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share my journey with you, and am so excited for what the future holds... a big announcment is coming soon :) Much love to all of you, and thank you again for watching my videos to make all this possible.
Oh my gosh! I remember the original video. Wow it's good to see what you did with the space. Not watched yet but really looking forward to see what you've done!!!
Looks Great 👍. You will never go wrong without ever having too many skylights.
I so enjoyed watching the entire renovation. Would you consider coming to Michigan to do some similar projects? Do you have a company website? Would love to have that wood mirror you made.
Karma Cat is so cute, adorable, sweet, beautiful, fun, & cool💕💕❤️❤️🥰🥰!! What a wonderful restoration!! So beautiful and elegant
Tex is so handsome
I’m jealous of the people who just stumble upon this video and get to see everything at once instead of waiting on pins and needles for 4 years for the next video to drop.haha. Such an amazing transformation and very entertaining to follow along since the beginning nonetheless.
That would be me. I've watched the entire video. I think he has been so involved in this for four years his ex (Kim) knew she'd never be able to have any say-so if she moved in. This is HIS BABY....and NOBODY can do a thing to it. It is fancy and unique, just maybe not EVERYONE'S EVERYTHING. I can't believe he didn't put an elevator in the building!
That’s me tooo lol I just finished loved every second of the video. Except the emergency stuff and cat passing. That pulled a few heartstrings.
That’s me🙋🏼♀️ Found the channel to day
I am that person 💀
👋
I began watching this series with my girlfriend during the COVID period. It's incredible to think that now she's my wife, and we even have a child together. We've seen every episode of this series and just wanted to express our gratitude for sharing such a fantastic series with us.
Covid= tyrants lockdowns
RIP to the dual facing toilets... forever in our heart ❤

Goodbye to staring intently into your friend's eyes whilst you are both dropping your kids off at the swimming pool.

Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride!
Thanks for joining!!!
I agree!
Maybe one of the best series of videos on yt
I remember when I started to watch this series... I watched the first 4 parts and then I stopped, 'cause I was facing some health problems and didn't think I would get to see it finish. Now, after 4 years I can watch the whole thing. I'll be watching all the 50+ videos.
So glad you overcame the health issues! I faced the same in the middle of this renovation...
I'm one of those lucky enough to have caught from the get go. Thank you. You've inspired, entertained and made my life a little bit happier everytime one of your videos showed up.
thank you!
Karma Cat will never be forgotten ❤️
What 😭 I went to the comments too soon I just met him.
These jobs are so underrated. The skill, precision, understanding, math, etc it takes to create these spaces is undervalued.
Agreed 💯
If it was undervalued then hiring tradespeople would be cheap. I think the word you're looking for is not respected.
@@ungarlinski7965 no I stand on undervalued which is why it’s not respected. People assume they can go with the lowest bidder and get the best skilled or they think they can do themselves at the same level of quality.
No they don't. @@allshadesg
@@ungarlinski7965 my family has a long history in the trade world and yes people do…Not all but it’s definitely a mentality. I guess you are fortunate to not have that experience. Good For You! 👏
Wow, thank God the doctors were able to find and stop the bleeding. I'm glad you made it through.
The only thing I'm mad about is that TH-cam never suggested your channel and I love renovation channels. This was absolutely incredible to watch Thank you so much for filming this journey and for just being so amazing in your design process! So absolutely inspirational!
Im so sorry for what you went through, and to have your gf leave you when your at your lowest says alot about her. I would love to get you on my podcast one day. Talk about your mental health throughout this whole process. Keep smashing it bro! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thank you!
Yeah girls don't care as soon as they think the grass is greener on the other side, they're going to leave. Sad reality for us men.
I really admire people who not only have the skills, patience and the work ethic required to do this kind of thing but also to have the Vision to see what things could become.
Thanks!
It's amazing how far you have come in this journey among trials and tribulations. This isn't just a renovation of spaces and dual facing toilets, but a renovation of the soul. Thanks!
I've been a silent companion through this journey with you watching each episode one after another. Watching the whole renovation compressed into a 2h long video was still pretty fascinating but im glad i was here to see the ups and downs of your life aswell along the way. Congratulations, be proud and enjoy the heck of your finished new home!
To anyone watching this video, i highly recommend watching all the separate episodes.
I agree with this 💯
I am happy you are still between us. Take care of yourself. It’s been a ride so far!
Remember the day you announced you bought the warehouse. Wild to me that 4 years have gone by, and you've done so much. In and out of love, nearly died, and look at all you've built, all you've accomplished. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your interesting world!
Above all, I'm glad that you are now in good health. Losing a best friend can also take your spirit & energy, but bringing Tex into your life was a wise decision. Best of success and continued health.
thank you!
I'm sure I'm not the only one to say this, but I've been watching your journey from SA from the time you bought the building when covid just hit the world and have watched every video since, in fact, the minute a video landed I wouldn't waste time to watch it. it's been a great journey watching how your skills and all the rest have improved over the years and seen how your channel has grown since then, wow it has been monumental... May this new chapter of finishing off your building and moving on to the next project(s) be just as successful and hopefully we'll get to see more video's and won't stop 🙂
thank you!
It feels like saying goodbye to an old friend. It looks amazing, and it has been an honour to witness all the hard work that you put into it. A toast🥂
Wow, a whole run-through for a Friday night! *grabs beer and snacks*
🍻🥨🍿
I popped corn. Twice.
can't believe it's been 4 years. felt like I found your videos and started renovating my own home just a few months ago. time has been flying by like crazy
We feel old
Dear young man you are a joyful blessing, because I got to see you and others work together to do this project, but most of all knowing the medical thing that you went through had me remembering of the some what medical situation I had to go through, removal of a tumor in my stomach, and then after that I had two stents put into my heart. I’m doing fine but it sure makes you think. As a young old man I admire your dedication to the things you do. You are the type of young person that I believe should be focusing on more , not saying that some that some young people don’t need our help, but saying that most of our young people are doing awesome things in our society and I’m proud of them all.
Thank you!! And I'm glad you made it through your health scares as well!
4 years of work with all that hard work and dedication is absolutely worth it 👌 🙌 🙏 thanks for taking us through this journey it was an inspiration. Looking forward to new projects
no thank you for binging us on this amazing the journey and I'm glad you're still with us
just moved to Canada from Philippines and construction are so different and this channel helps me adjust what material to use when i want something change in our house
Thanks for sharing this journey with us. For four years this has been my joy to see what is possible and to get excited that we can change our life if we are willing to step into the unknown. Thank you thank you for letting me and everyone see this beautiful home.
I watched your first renovation video long before the pandemic started. TH-cam gods brought it up to me. I followed your videos along the worst moments of my life. Lost my dad, had to leave my house. I also started building my new house around the same time. It was the scariest thing i had to do. Funny thing is, I would sometimes stop watching your videos as they would frustrate me (bcoz i wud start thinking abt what i was doing right/wrong with my own house, i am sure u felt the same frustration as building a house is hard hard work). But i persisted too and now 4 yrs later i too am in a much better & happier place in life. Just wanted to share with you as i somehow think we have persevered together. You never know who u r inspiring in life so just keep going.
I hope you make the happiest memories in your new home. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Been watching since the beginning of the renovation. What a wonderful journey, thanks for sharing with us!
Loved that you took a giant leap and chased your dream! Thank you for allowing us in on the journey!! Great job and best of luck!!
I genuinely can't believe its been 4 years I remember when you first purchased this building and I had nothing to look back at and now 4 years later the transformation is just amazing. Also the fact you somehow managed to make me actually fully watch a whole 2 hour video is amazing within itself. I am proud of all the work you've done mate and I look forward to seeing more of you.
I watched your whole video from start to finish. I brought tears to my eyes. When I hit 30, I bought my first home. A 1894 queen Anne cottage in a great neighborhood. Demo'd to dirt floors, rotted roof, popped the top. Build a garage shop, all while living in the narrow building space. Remodel took over 5 years as my day job was in tech. I remember 3am stints grouting slate and building custom CNC cabinets. Bless your spirit and following your dreams!
Sounds like you've got a great place now, congrats!!
Your videos kept me entertained throughout the Covid pandemic...the renovations absolutely stunning!
Thank you!!
@@modustrial I presume you would still be posting videos of your furniture now that the renovations are complete?
Watched every episode. Your dedication to doing things right and your willingness to do tasks that you have never done before is to be commended. Thanks for the allowing us to watch your project. Looking forward to your future episodes and journeys.
thank you!
Can't believe it's already been 4 years since I started following your journey. I enjoyed it so much!
it was an awesome ride! So glad TH-cam hit me up with episode 3 right after the start! All the best from Germany mate!
wooow, I remember when it all started, I can't belive it's been 4 years!
Idk how, but this came up on my recommended so I clicked on it not knowing what to expect. I just watched the entire 2 hour video and the finished product is unreal. Literal blood, sweat, and tears went to this, and it was a hell of a story to follow. Just earned a new subscriber, cant wait to see what big project you start next.
i remember following you just a few weeks before you bought the warehouse.
what a journey, it's been a pleasure watching you turning this to gold
I had watched all of the renovation videos as they happened, so nothing was new. And I hate long TH-cam videos.... but I couldn't stop watching this one! What an amazing transformation, and I'm blown away by the vision to make it work! Fantastic job!
thank you!
I believe I started watching pre-Covid, through it until even now. I love watching you build things. Yes, I may be into doing my Country music, but eventually I may end up showing some DIY projects myself, at some point, but for me it will mainly be music and programming for now. But seriously, you're an inspiration to never give up on living your dreams and going for what you truly enjoy doing.
thank you!
I understand what your feeling and saying, I'm 84 and I had 3 strokes within 72 hours back in December 2018, I feel wonderful to be alive and doing very well but I'm in a wheelchair, better than a pine box for sure. I just bought a 2006 Cargo van and plan to get out on the road as soon as I can. I found a wheelchair lift on line and will celebrate my 85 th next month in my van going around this beautiful Island of Hawaii. Been here on the Big Island for 50 years and Love it. Aloha Nui Loa, your place is just wonderful. good job.
that's amazing -- you're inspiration to me!
You've put your heart and soul into driving it through and times flies in the TH-cam world. And in the real world. Look after yourself, enjoy the result and keep doing whatever makes you happy...
I cant tell you how much watching this series changed my life... I pray i can see the building in real life one day and break bread with you! May God bless you and all your endeavors!
Hi Mike!
Grabs popcorn!
🍿🍿
Just a little advice from one handyman to another. Always wear boots or hiking boots when doing demo or any type of construction. I’ve learned the hard way getting a nail right through my sneakers, lol. Great job btw!!!
Been here since the beginning and I’m all about it. You helped us get thru Covid! Super glad too you survived the health scare and everything is getting better.
I cant believe its been 4 years already 😱 thanks for the inspiration and undoubtedly entertaining content!
Wow!! 4 years?! Thank you for getting through Covid with your awesome videos. Beautiful job, well done!
Time sure flies doesn't it!
Amazing. I spent the last couple of weeks building a gazebo and thought that was a process. This inspires me to want to do more DIY projects and eventually buy a place to remodel.
Wow .. 4 years !! Holy freakin cow! I cannot believe it has been this long since I started watching you. What an amazing series and seeing it all together like this had a smile on my face the whole time. Thank you for taking us on this journey. I applaud your honesty, transparency and openness about the build and your personal life. I appreciated that the most. Call me nosey I guess, but I like knowing who everyone is and what they are doing there with you. RIP to your buddy KarmaCat. Losing a lifelong little companion is rough. Recovering from a massive surgery and health scare is huge and life changing. So happy to see you fully recovered and back to kicking goals xx
thank you!
I Love seeing a Man doing construction. "My Father" built houses. He did it All like you! To Me that's Amazing!! "REAL MAN Stuff!!" Loving This!! Congratulations!!
Truly a Herculean task! Without trying to be hyperbolic; this is truly inspiring work!
I think I started watching this when you were 4 months or so in and man it has been a journey
Started this during covid. Came back a couple years later. Love to see it in its final form. Amazing work!
It's been 4 years, huh? Time flies, thanks for the journey!
OMG…I’m so glad you made it thru your health crisis! Wow…glad your guardian angel was on the watch!
Congratulations on reaping the fruits of your hard labor! I’ve watched since the beginning and I cannot tell you how happy we are that you have had this success, thank you for sharing with us!
The roof deck is my favorite part of this build, I followed this project since the very beginning, Been quite a journey
Thanks! I think it's my favorite too
I've been following you since before you bought this building. This has been an amazing adventure to follow. I'm excited for your future projects. Congratulations on your "new" home and workspace.
thanks much!
Hard to believe it's been 4 years since I was randomly suggested a video about a former attorney buying an abandoned building, glad I clicked on it. It's been an awesome journey to watch. When I see the things that you've tackled in renovating this place, whether it was something you've done before or not, it makes me think; "Maybe I can do some stuff around my house too". Looking forward to see where you go from here. How about an epoxy computer desk that's basically a diorama of the final battle from Avengers Endgame??
I was halfway through the Abandoned Warehouse playlist but I prefer watching everything in one video, thanks!
Truly can't believe it's been 4 years since it all began! Thank you for the journey and looking forward to the next one!
Simply stunning result throughout the entire renovation. Great job!
Yeehaw what a long and memorable journey it has been.
it definitely has been!
I love that diagonal flooring. Reminds me of cutting grass, the straight up and down is boring but the diagonal cuts really catch your eye and look good
This is probably the best, most complete transformation build I've ever seen on TH-cam. You've gone through so much in your personal life...this video is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
I followed your story since Covid and to see your house is complete, feels like an accomplishment to me too. Congratulations on the new home! You deserved all the hardwork you did for the building and it's looking so good!
thanks!
Been waiting for this
Wow, this is amazing and so inspiring! I’m so happy you made it out of the health scare to be able to live a good life and enjoy the fruits of your labour. My condolences for Karma Cat. He’s with you in spirit and will never be forgotten. Thank you for taking me on this wonderful journey. I wish you and your new pup Texas all the best. ❤
Thank you!!
I've watched the entire series as it evolved. I will certainly sit through the final glorious complete story!
I started watching since you quit your job- I was so stoked for you taking the risk and pouring everything into your dreams that I made a point of subscribing and liking each video in support. You have done what I don’t have the stones to do, and wish I could do myself, just because I have too much in the way of responsibilities to roll the dice- so it felt like I was supporting an alternate dimension version of myself in a weird way. You should be so proud of what you’ve done- been with you every step of the way bud! Enjoy your home and the life you’ve made for yourself!
It must be fun to demolish stuff in the US: wood, plywood and cardboard all over the place. If I need to demolish stuff in my country I'm screwed, it's brick, concrete and steel rebars even in internal walls.
Did that woman literally leave you when times were tough for you after everything you had done for the both of you
Typical women!
Cant beleive its 4 years already. Looking forward to the next 4 and hoping to see your business grow and more of the unique gems that you create. Good luck!!!
Many of us that watch TH-cam or on TH-cam are creative and willing to take chances in order to live the life we want. Most of us don't get the opportunity, due to uncontrollable situations. As he said, sometimes you just have to take the leap. I know it wasn't easy. Having the funds for any project is a major part. The part most cant get pass. You also had health issues as well. Great Job! Something I look forward to doing myself. Now I have a good reference. I look forward to seeing the many projects coming out of your new place. Peace!
I stumbled upon this at 3am. 3 trips to finish. It's now 1:18 pm. One of the best videos I've ever seen. Instant fan. Ty.
Thank you!! 🙏🙏
I've been watching this from the beginning - your resilience has been amazing. Splitting with your girlfriend, losing your cat, even almost dying in the middle of it, on top of all the challenges from COVID.. I just couldn't imagine succeeding with all those challenges, but here you are! Well done. Looking forward to what you do next :)
thank you!
Still cant believe how awesome this turned out. Just comes to show the vision that you had for the place and with effort and patience you can get almost anything you want
Mike, I jumped on the Modustrial Maker train when you first started. It’s a real joy to see the transformation. Thanks so much for sharing your journey!
LOVED the video. Kinda got emotional at some parts i remember watching the videos thinking about your pet and your near death experience. Thanks for sharing this with us!
to quit your job and go on this journey takes guts ! thnx for taking us along and share al the ups and downs... I salute you Sir...! enjoy life love from Amsterdam
Thank you so much for taking us along with you. Awesome result through your hard work and tenacity. Maybe a good time to take a well deserved break and come back for more videos once you rejuvenated. Soo good xx
Thanks for sharing your journey …it’s a true testament to what hard work and thinking out side the box can transpire. Glad you’re better.
It's so amazing that this bro started this during the start of the pandemic.
I remember when you started this!! I didn't want to start watching until you were completely finished! I've waited 4 years! Awesome man!
Thank you!
I lost track of this series a few years ago. I'm so glad YT pushed this video to me.
I rarely leave impertinent comments, but I think one of your best upgrades was going from a pet cat to a dog. What a fortunate guy Mr. Tex is with his luxury abode plus loads of entertainment watching what you do! 👍
What a work of art. Sounds like an awesome celebration to be had. Wish great creations in your new venture. You were given time to share your beauty with the world. Looking forward to new videos showcasing your work. Stay healthy and enjoy your dream.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎉🎉🎊🎊🪅🪅🪅
I started watching the series shortly after my daughter died. My creative Muse was just obliterated. All my 3-D printers were silent. I was making nothing. I was watching videos like yours and some others to try to get going again, but during the journey more stuff started happening to me. I lost my brother during Covid to Covid. Two months later, I lost my only grandmother. My health drastically went downhill and the last two years I have nearly died three separate times one of them a doctor OD’ed me in the hospital and put me in the ICU. But long story short I’m still here and this series kept giving me the courage to get out to my new shop and renovate it. We hold.
I'm glad you're still with us! All the best with your new shop -- I'm sure its going to be amazing!
Hey there, I remember watching your videos when my little one was just a bump in mommy's tummy, and now they've been rocking it in kindergarten for more than two years! 👶
That's wild!
I followed you through this adventure. it reminded me of what I was up to all those years. all the cool things you built. I am a cabinet maker by trade, 25 years now, and I appreciated that you appreciated the amount of work it takes to make cabinets.
Excellent work buddy. PS miss Kat.
Thank you. Your videos and zest for life helped me through the pandemic. Loved every video, every crazy commercial, every drill, saw, and nail gun. What a journey. Had a little tear when I watched the final film. Now i hope you are on to a new adventure. We will all be waiting.
This video got me so emotional, didn't expect that, I just went on youtube to see how to pronounce alembic and this video popped up and I watched the whole thing and was crying at the end reveal. So so proud of you, what an amazing accomplishment. Thank you for sharing it and reminding us that our dreams will come true - no matter the journey it takes to get there 🙏You're an artist and an inspiration 💛
Thank you! Glad you found the channel 😃
What a journey, thank you for sharing this process with us and making us feel a part of it all
First of all what a journey it has been! Had some delays, ups and downs and more but the end result is beautiful! From a rotten fallen apart building to a great woodworking shop/ apartment!
Just a tip for y'all, watch the series from the beginning! Watch all the episodes and then come and watch this recap movie! You'll have a much better understanding of the whole renovation and all the details!
This is the first youtube renovation project I’ve followed from the start till the end ❤
I think the true definition of compelling content is that it's aspirational and it makes us want to do it too. I knew from the start when I caught the first video of you buying the building (and not really knowing who you were) that this was something I was going to definitely watch. I've been amazed by your work and have thoroughly enjoyed the degree to which you've taken us along for this journey. Now having explored your content further, I love what you build. But this story in and of itself has been so interesting and it seriously makes me want to do the same!
I've watched from start to finish, and from the trash to the treasure has been amazing to watch. Thank you for this wonderful journey!
I enjoyed watching your vision come together. Sorry for the loss of your fur baby.
