Absolutely outstanding and inspirational. That was an enormous amount of hard labour, but the outcome is spectacular. Congratulations on such a great job and continued success to you!
Wow, great job. As a Canadian, I really work more in wood (decks/framing)..I know very little about stone/brick/masonry...and as a DIYer, find it a bit intimidating. Loved watching this.
Rocks and concrete don’t mix well together because the concrete accumulates water and eventually deteriorates the rocks into dust (specially with freeze and frost)
You did an amazing job. This was no easy task with the removal of all the old stonewalls, concrete floor and more. The stone and concrete work alone can be back breaking for just one man. Then you did a ten week finish which is amazing. Did you do all the work alone ?
Thanks! Yes, I did this one alone. There was nothing very big and heavy to need help! (Apart from carrying in plasterboard to the site, def need two people for that).
Hi Nate, what a transformation, I hope you have footage of your house renovation as well. You have the same interests as I do, the campervan, Italian house and then I saw you pick a purple fig lol, my favourite. I'm about to look into moving to Italy next year hopefully to renovate something too. I am from South Africa but I have an Italian passport and I'm not getting younger. Great to see what you have done, your place looks amazing. Hopefully you'll be posting more. Cheers from Cape Town.👍
Nice man! Cape Town... also a very beautiful place. Yeah, the rest of the reno can be found in this video: th-cam.com/video/jykPwcBtML8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=69kZjy5BSjvIoRXe
Love these compilations! Apartment looks great! How do you push through a long solo project when fatigue sets in? Do you just grit your teeth and power through or do you have some tips you can share?
Thanks for the comment! Mostly I just push through. I don't massively love spending my days covered in dust so the sooner it's finished the better 😅... The only way over is through.
Superb job in just 10 weeks Nate! It's mad to think what that would cost if a team of renovators had done it, pretty far north of 10k I'm guessing. Will you be renting it out for short stays or just for friends and family only?
Thanks! For now, I will not be renting it out, but it is always an option (the store room would be quick to convert into a little kitchen if you wanted to turn it into a self-contained airbnb type thing. And yes, it would have probably cost something like 40 to 50k if I had paid for it all to be done. Well worth the graft just to save the money!
Check the upstairs.. this was a basement reno (although I could put a kitchen in the store room if I wanted to make it a self contained appartment). th-cam.com/video/jykPwcBtML8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=NateMurphy
Why did you have to keep the old toilet hole? What prevented you from simply filling it in, then covering it over with the same floor covering used on the floor?
Wouldn't it have been better for the heat balance to put additional an insulating layer towards the floor? I noticed that only a concrete floor was poured here without any reinforcing steel. Wouldn't that mean that the concrete would crack and possibly even break?
It's pretty stable ground (existing slab) so not really an issue re reinforcement. There was 1cm of insulation put down before the UFH I didn't want to lose too much height.
Radiator is coming of the backboiler in the floor above. UFH is for stand-alone heating/additional if required. See this film for the rest of the reno; th-cam.com/video/jykPwcBtML8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=NateMurphy
Don't know if it is the case here, but sometimes when there are humidity problems holes like this are dug so that water collects there and then it can be easily pumpes out
Isn't asbestos removal a specialist job? Hacking it about surely allowed harmful particulates to be released into the atmosphere? You did a great job and I admire your reserves of energy.
@@NateMurphy I'm Catalan, and when I saw the licence plate of the delivery truck, my curiosity made me find the house. Street view is from 2015, but it shows the hole where you poured the concrete mix in :D
Your feet!!!!!! Why don’t you wear proper shoes?????? If you break your feet you won’t be able to do anything!!!! Make me shudder to think of the injury you could do to yourself!!!

I’ve never seen one person with so many talents and master them all……actually slay them all! So much creativity. Wow, just Wow!
The views from your patio alone make it all worthwhile
Thanks Billy, I am inclined to agree!

Thank you so much!
Beautifully done! House guests will never want to leave😊
Thanks Bobbi! :))
I'm curious why you left the hole in the floor, tiled it, and put a door on it.
I think it was a talking point - an historical feature he decided to keep. Considering its depth, it could become a wine cooler.
Not a bad idea re. wine cooler.. As you said, its a cool historical feature, and never delete good storage in a small house!
Your homestead restoration is beautiful and you have learned some valuable skills. Great job.
Thank you! 🙌
Just Wow. Incredibly hard work and intense focus. Beautiful results! Congratulations my friend.
Thanks Jack!

Loving the DNB vibes!
Fabulous. That was hard work. Wear eye protection too.
looks great - wow 👍
I didn't see any vapor barrier on the walls where you put up the plaster walls with isolation. did i miss it?
Not really required here.
Fantastic job. Congrats !!
Wow, so dreamy, well done!

Just seems a waste to lose potential storage space, and I like the echo of the history :)
Very beautiful!🥰🇨🇦

What was the hole in the floor for? They one you put tiles and a lid ? I didn’t understood.

bravo, tres bel reussite beau travaille, tu as bosser tous SEUL? force et honneure , merci
oui, je l'ai fait celui-là seul ! Merci!
Lovely!
Beautiful 🎉 but I gotta say watching you break up all that concrete in flip flops 🩴was giving me anxiety 😓
It makes you careful! 🙂
I'm confused. You have underfloor heating throughout, but a radiator near the "hole" and in the bathroom. Can you explain?

where did the plumbing rough in come from?
the plumbing rough?
Begs the question: What is in the drop-toilet hole now?
Actually, nothing.. but I am sure we will find a use for it at some point! :D

It is specialist if you have deep pockets. Otherwise, sensible precautions will do the job. Thanks for the kind comment :))
respect....
Please wet asbestos when touching it.
So beautiful! Where is this?
Catalunya, a couple hours north of Barcelona in the Pyrenees.
@@NateMurphy I'm Catalan, and when I saw the licence plate of the delivery truck, my curiosity made me find the house. Street view is from 2015, but it shows the hole where you poured the concrete mix in :D

La mejor ... (cerca de Organya)
What part of the world are you in?
Catalunya!
Where does the waste go?
In to the main sewer via a macerator pump (below ground issues)
fixmyproperty AI fixes this. Old basement transformed into apartment.
👍🏻👍🏻
Why didn't the puppy help much earlier in the video?
Too dusty for her little nose!
1 leaf. 😂

Lovely renovation but did anyone else notice the mountain view was a lady laying on her back, her face outline and a bewb xD Time stamp 14:58
It has been noticed in the area! Well spotted.
