  • The quilt here is 42" X 42" and is made of sixteen 10 1/2" finished blocks. I used 1/2 yard of green and 1/2 yard of red fabric and 1 yard of white or very light. These measurements don't include binding or backing. If you want to make this block a different size I have a chart for HST block size, final block size and cutting instructions at: questioningqui...
    This is the 7th in my series on Disappearing Quilts and quilt blocks. This is a Disappearing Quilt Called Jubilee.
    I would like you to vote on whether to call the original block (that gets cut up) a Sawtooth block or a Tree block. Please leave your vote in the comments below.
    If you decide to make this quilt, I would love to see how it comes out. You can email a picture to me or share it with me on Facebook or Instagram.

    Love the video. Quite a lesson in Modern Art, or as one suggested, Mod Ern Art. I think your blocks defy naming. Motif is as close as you can get. Thanks so much for the alternatives. All of your videos are interesting and inspiring. Your website is too. I am so glad that you do those live, in-person presentations, classes and opportunities to share and learn with living, learning people. I hope this present pandemic subsides, that more people get the chance to learn with you. You remind me of an African proverb, "When an experienced person falls silent, a library of wisdom burns to the ground." Thank you for opening your library to the public with these videos.

      It is exciting to hear that these videos inspire you! That is the highest praise. It is interesting, but the pandemic started me doing a Zoom lecture series on Disappearing Blocks for quilt guilds. This lead me to making these videos. (I had to buy the cameras and a better computer for the Lectures and people told me they wanted more...). I can't wait for the pandemic to be over with and I grieve for all the lives lost.
      I appreciate the time and support you have given me with these kind words of encouragement.

    Hello, again to you Brita. I watch your channel to enjoy what you’re up to this time but it’s utterly impossible for me to follow your rotations.
    Years ago one of my students had to do a practice IQ test
    I scored 99% verbal and 32% spatial. No surprise there: it’s just the way my brain is wired. (I did get the most points on the spatial part because 10 minutes after seeing a design I could draw it nicely. I saw a quilt so it was easy for me!)
    I took a beginning quilt class and made a Jacob’s Ladder. And reversed the upper right quadrant-following a simple pattern-and never noticed it until someone pointed it out to me…..
    I’ve been trying to imagine what a doable diagram pattern would be like. And I realized I’d have to have a life sized pattern shaded the 3 different colors so I could put each piece in its place. The initial cutting I could do with just make this size block and cut at X” on all four sides.
    It’s truly a pleasure to see your creativity at work and to read the comments from others who get this rotational stuff.
    Thank you‼️

    This feels like it could be adapted to use a Layer Cake. I’m going to find out - ordered one for the holiday, and this looks like a great pattern to use it for!

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This could definitely be adapted for a layer cake.
      There is a method for making 8 HST blocks from a layer cake, as well as a way to make 4 HST blocks. Just be sure to trim them down to one of the sizes that can be divided by 3.
      You can see all different block sizes and cutting directions on my website: questioningquilter.com/chart

    This block would be good in a QAYG quilt. Your sashing is already a part of the block configuration.

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hadn't thought of this as a QAYG. I don't know very much about them so if you say that this will work, I believe you. The "sashing" is actually part of the block so I don't see exactly how that works, but I would be excited to see it! Thanks so much for sharing this with me and my viewers.
      If you make this, I would love to see pictures and especially pictures of how you did the QAYG. I love learning new things and I especially love when my viewers can teach me something.

    I saw Rudolph the red nosed reindeer in the original block. I wonder what it would take to make that happen? Hmmm...

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe, lack of sleep. LOL. Seriously, it took me a long time looking at the block to see Rudolph. The block would have to be set on point and some eyes would have to be appliqued on. It is interesting how even the same block can look different when you look at it a second or third time.

    • @Sharon-pb7so

    • @QuestioningQuilter

      The 6 1/4" is the size to trim the HST after it it pressed and BEFORE you sew it into the (sawtooth or tree) block.

    • @QuestioningQuilter

      This would look amazing in red, white and blue. I don't know if you mean that the fabric is a print with images of the Union Jack. I am not sure if this quilt would look good with large print fabric.
      Either way, I would love to see the quilt when it is done.

      In general, if you subscribe to my free newsletter (from any page on my website) the confirmation email has a link to the newsletter archive which has printed patterns for most of the quilts here, including fabric requirements.
      This quilt is 42" X 42" and is made of sixteen 10 1/2" finished blocks. I used 1/2 a yard of green and 1/2 yard of red fabric and 1 yard of white. These measurements don't include binding or backing.
