  • This is the latest Disappearing Quilt Tutorial from the Questioning Quilter. This is a totally new design made from a positive and negative Grecian Square Block. What is a Grecian Square? Don't worry I take you through it step by step.
    For a printable version of this pattern you can subscribe to my newsletter on any page of my website: QuestioningQui... . When you get your confirmation email, there will be a link to the newsletter archive with all the patterns, including this one. Plus you will get a new pattern every month or so.
    This quilt measures 39" X 52" and is perfect for a lap quilt or a baby quilt.
    I used 6 Fat Quarters and 1 1/4 yards of white fabric. Each Fat Quarter will make 2 Grecian Square Blocks, one positive and one negative.
    It is super quick because there are only 12 blocks!
    For each block you will need to make:
    (4) Half Square Triangle (HST) Blocks that are trimmed to 5" X 5". *
    (4) Bar Blocks (shown in the video) that are 5" X 5". Each block is half white and half dark made from strips of fabric 2 3/4" wide.
    (1) 5" square of either white or dark depending on if this is a positive or negative block.
    The Spool Blocks will measure 13" X 13" finished (13.5" unfinished)
    The video where I show how to make 8 HST's from a large square is here: • WallFlowers Disappeari...
    For those using an Accuquilt the finished size of these HST's is 4.5"
    NOTICE! To make a block without any overlap of the HST in the final design:
    Make the HST Blocks 4 1/2" (unfinished).
    Make the Bar Blocks from strips of fabric 2 1/2" wide and cut them 5" long. The Bar Blocs will measure 4 1/2" tall X 5" long.
    The center square stays at 5" X 5".
    Sew, cut an rearrange just as for the standard block.
    These blocks will be 12" X 12" finished and 12.5" unfinish
    If you decide to make this quilt, I would love to see how it comes out. You can email a picture to me or share it with me on Facebook or Instagram.

      I am so sorry if I had you worried. Thank you so much for the concern. I guess there were a few people who thought I might do these weekly. LOL! I am just a grandma with a spare bedroom, no crew or camera people. Each of these videos takes me between 80 and 100 hours to make.

    I think I would prefer tutorials of different blocks rather than a series on the one block. I like learning how to make as many different blocks as possible to build my skills. This tutorial was wonderful and I will be making a table runner or throw quilt from the Grecian Square Block. Such a simple block with a lot of visual impact.

    I love your teaching style! So easy to follow, just like your patterns! Another great tutorial! I think I would rather see a variety of “disappearing” blocks, with maybe a “playlist” of all the blocks from each of the same starting blocks. Hope that helps.

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man, that is a great idea. Thanks so much!! Separate playlist based on the type of block. You are a genius!
      Do you think I should wait until I have more than one of each block type before stating the play list? Having a playlist with one video seems stupid, but then people could see all the different types of starting blocks I have videos for.
      Thanks so much for your help.

    • @melindaostergren8115
      @melindaostergren8115 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing stupid about having a playlist with just one video to begin with. Channel the 1,000 mile journey and the first step. You’d be spreading happy anticipation among your fan club and giving more inspiration to we groupies to experiment on our own.
      I vote for jumping around. You could make mention of the playlist each time you post another treasure.

      I wish I could produce more than once a month. I don't work for a fabric company or big quilt shop so I don't have any help. It is just me, working in my spare bedroom turned quilt studio.
      I have to come up with the design, create a pattern and make test blocks. Choose, wash press and cut the fabric. Write a script and start filming the construction. I don't have a camera person so there is a lot of running back and forth turning things on and off. Then I have to sew the quilt together and film the introduction and the section with the finished top. I also have to create the images for the alternate colors. Then comes the editing. Finally I have to create a Thumbnail image.
      I also have a newsletter that has a printable version of the pattern. That itself takes a full day, or sometimes longer. You can subscribe from any page of my website. The confirmation email will have a link to the archive with all the patterns.
      All told, each video takes me between 80 and 100 hours.

    I rarely ever comment on TH-cam videos but I had to on this one! My jaw literally dropped when I saw your first disappearing flying geese so yes, please! show us that one next month!
    I have to say I have a love/“hate” feeling towards you. I LOVE your videos and the way you play around and experiment with different quilt blocks. That whole wondering “what if” that you do makes this sewing nerd girl happy. It’s nice to know there is someone else that does that too!
    My “hate” is because of all the “what if”s that you show, they send me down a rabbit hole for hours. And hours. Eventually I come up for air and realize I missed lunch and now it’s time for diner. 😳 😅
    As to the question you asked about showing more variations on the Grecian Square, my suggestion would be to show the different variations on your blog. Like how you showed the different color variations without using actual blocks. Since you are a one woman show, maybe that would be easier for you. You could always link the blog to the video and vice versa.
    Whatever your decide to do, I’m hooked. Your videos (and your blog) are fantastic. Very clear and well organized!! 💗

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the detailed response, and I really appreciate that you chose to comment on my video. Thanks for letting me know that it was the first Flying Geese option that got your attention. I think that will be the one for next month. Now I have to figure out what fabrics to use and if I want to keep it monochrome or add additional colors. You aren't the only one to fall down rabbit holes.
      That's a great idea about showing different variations in a blog post without actually having to sew a complete quilt top. That would certainly take less time.
      Thanks again for all the great suggestions.

    I love that you show other color ways and try both positive and negative layouts. So you don't lose all those viewers who want more traditional quilt patterns why not do a disappearing block every other month. You could also show in the description below the original block plus cutting info and a sample layout picture maybe with the pieces slightly separated. I can then see how you got to your final block layout without you having to go through all the steps. Because once you get how these disappearing blocks evolve you can create whatever you want. Then if there is clamor to have a step by step for a certain one you can focus on that one. I love what you are doing and got a rotating mat for Christmas just for these types of blocks. I'm working on your disappearing hourglass right now. Thank you!!

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the detailed response. I think I will try to mix it up a little. I have a non-disappearing pattern that I came up with that I hope to have in the rotation later this spring. I don't know that you could add images to the description. I will have to look into it. However if you like being able to look at images, most of my videos have newsletter articles that go with them. You can see the archive of patterns if you sign up for my newsletter on my website. The confirmation email has a link to the archive.
      I think that I have to show the steps, because often I have newer viewers who are familiar with the disappearing blocks.
      Good job with the rotating mat. I love mine. Thanks again for letting me know what you think.

    I love all your ideas and how to change the look of the quilts from cutting your starting blocks. You are so easy to understand and show how everything works by arranging the quilt blocks in different ways. LOVE YOUR INFORMATION AND YOU TUBE!!! Keep up your wonderful information and smile. Have a wonderful day.
