    I have only made two quilts using fabric that I have bought specifically for a quilt I am about to make. I stopped counting how many quilts I have made once I hit over 50. Everything comes out of my stash. I have bought a lot of it, sometimes at yard sales, thrift store sales (25 or 50 cents for a fat quarter!), gifts of fabric and I do product reviews for Amazon's Vine program, so a lot of fat quarters; charm packs, rulers, batting, thread, etc. So I always feel like I am making free quilts.

    Kris I am loving your tutorials. found you randomly opening Jenny's countdown box opening. Can't wait to run your past videos. you're adorable and I love how upbeat you are about quilting. Helps get me motivated to get in the studio and get my sewjo on. I'm loving this scrappy quilt - thanks for all the tips- I've never made a test block - and now it just seem so logical. Separating the blocks on trays also makes sense. and makes the tray from last years Jenny box useful. Kudos for teaching this old girl new tricks. Happy Holidays, Teri G.

    I need a step by step explanation with pictures. You delivered.
    When you showed a daeker center variation, a I spy quilt came to mind. If you used primary or pastel (baby) colors, it would make a cute quilt. I would put different prints in the centers for I spy.

    I used my stash to make 2 large quilts and about 7 baby quilts during lockdown. I had some charm squares and left over yardage to make them. I wasn’t happy with some of the outcomes, but they were finished and donated. It didn’t make much of a difference in the amount of stash I still had, and on top of that, I started buying more fabric! 8 was kind of depressed. Now I am trying not to buy anymore fabric and use my stash and you have given me another beautiful quilt to make. Many thanks for all you do. Your tutorial was informative and very clear as well as a beautiful product.

    p.s. this pattern would also be fun with a contrasting solid for the background, a peach or gold, or even something dark and vivid. One of the best kept secrets for fabric is an online sight called Southern fabric. If you go to their menu and hit sales it will show jelly rolls for 60 percent off and their scrap bags beat Modas to pieces. And these are fabrics that you will really use. I get Moda jelly rolls for $22. You can’t beat that price ❤

    Im about to but together block a!! I did block b first! Lol can’t wait to get these together. I did it with Christmas scraps and now am regretting some of my choices but oh well!! Still going with it to keep it no spend. (Ultimately I used too many repeats!! 😬)

      Oh! I love that you made it with Christmas scraps! How wonderful is that?
      I hope those choices you are regretting work out. Sometimes those "misses" are the very thing that makes the quilt interesting! Also, the quilting always makes fabric look better. I hope that is what happens in your case!
      Thank you so much for watching and sharing your progress! If you'd like, I would love to see it when it is finished. My email is sewthedistance@gmail.com. ❤️

    Love how this turned out.
    When I make the backing out of two pieces of the same size fabric and don't want one seam down the middle, I cut one of the fabrics lengthwise down it's middle (basically on the fold). When I sew them together I sew 20" of fabric A to 40" of fabric B. Then I sew the empty side of fabric B to 20" of fabric A. Looks nice and I don't have to worry about a seam going down the middle.

    If you don't have a spare wall for a design wall... you can make a portable one with 2 or 3 folds like a room divider. With thick card or light weight foam board like is used in framing prints etc. Or use particle board with blocks turned into lip on feet to hold it up. If you cover both sides you can use it in any configuration, sample blocks on one side, whole quilt on the other? Then fold it up and store beside a cupboard when not needed? You have probably already thought about this idea though. I have seen the right sized batting pinned up then taken down with the top on it and a new piece used for the next one? Of coourse you will find a solution that will work for you.
    Love this quilt and how you've adjusted it it's georgous.

    I love Fall colors and fabrics so I love your quilt❣️ I recently made a similar quilt called Scrappy Irish Chain that has a similar look but has individual 2 1/2 inch squares in block one and larger background fabrics in block 2 with 3 scrappy 2 1/2 " squares in the corners. That allows me to custom quilt a big area in that block. Your strip sewing technique would make up much quicker. I plan to combine the two patterns. Thanks so much for sharing!

    I am having trouble with your videos. Your voice will be coming along just fine and then you make a bit of an addition to what you are saying and it is almost rambling like you are talking to yourself. I have noticed this in every one of your videos that I have seen. I can't really hear what you are saying These are just some of the time markers for your to see what I am talking about, although they are not necessary the best examples. See 13:47-50, 15:50, 16:30-37, 16:50-17:00

    What type of batting do you use for your quilts? I have made this quilt using 2 jelly rolls I had and I did buy just a little bit of fabric for the lighter squares. I will send you a picture after I get it quilted in my sewing machine.

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! I wish I had a definitive answer for you. I used to buy whatever was on sale, so when I made this particular quilt, I used whatever I had. I wish I could remember! I recently purchased a large bolt of Warm and Natural, however, and have been using that exclusively now. It was much more cost effective to buy the bolt when it was on sale.
      I hope this helps some!
      I would love to see your quilt! ❤️

    That could be fat quarter friendly? You wouldn't have to cut a fat quarter in half. You would get less dtrips...
    I think fat quarters because i have a lot of them on hand.

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You absolutely could use fat quarters. You would just need two strips from each fat quarter to make up one strip, if that makes sense. I hope it does! Let me know if it doesn't. ❤️

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! The backing and batting was from my stash, too.The green was something I purchased on clearance about three years ago. It is an odd color and could never find anything to go with it. I am not sure where I got the sunflowers. I think it has been in my stash for over ten years at least!
      As for washing and drying, it did help! It is super soft now! I do wish I would have used a different color of thread, but it's all good. Next time! 😍

    Do you think that a scant 1/4” is a hangover from old days when seams were pressed open not nested? When I learnt quilting they taught that way.

    • @SewtheDistance
