48k is a lot of dosh, the problem is that that the Golf R is now around 43k, the Audi RS3 57k list price and the M3 around 75k, so you could argue it's good value relatively speaking. It's just every other car is now bloody expensive as well, and don't even start looking at EV prices 😱

Honda graphics and indicators have never been cutting edge, but they work... reliably. Over and over. And I'm glad to see people can witness that tires do not need to be 20" or larger just for the sake of being larger. Not only are they quite a bit more expensive - especially when you carve the roads regularly, wheels general just need to be big enough to accommodate the brake assembly.

This is true for every Honda ever made. Even if you get a base Civic, you can feel the right foundation to being a driver's car. I've owned a 2004 Honda Accord Type S (modifed to a TypeR-ish performance) for 13 years only because I couldn't find anything better in that class. Being a relatively big sedan, it drove like magic, even compared to newer manual BMWs or other cars "known" to drive good. The new TypeR is way ahead of everything in it's class and even significantly higher classes, and I wouldn't put VW Golf nowhere near that, it was always at the bottom of drivers cars hot hatches. Hot hatch is not about just putting a bigger motor into a chasis, anyone can do that. Putting together a great hot hatch is maybe even more challanging than doing that for a $100k+ sports car.

Really ? Doesn't the design seem very....generic ? Which is the last word I'd usually use to describe a Honda Civic. I mean just look at the last 3 generations of Civics - you'd have to be blind in one eye and have severe cataract in the other to mistake those models for anything else on the road. But this one....

@@theweeknd2725 I understand what you're saying. It does look cool.No doubt. But just not Civic level of cool. The benchmark is just way too high in my mind. I mean the facelifted 8th gen Civic was a class apart and one of (if not THE) best generations of Civic there is. And lets not even get to the fact that this gen bears too much of a resemblance to the Accord. Which is a big no-no. Just my opinion. I really wish they'd given it more of a distinctive look. Maintained the Civic identity.

I absolutely love the shift lights on my type r. It puts a grin on my face every time.
Before getting my 2024 type r, I test drove the VW Golf R and GTI. The RS3 and the M2. I purposely left the type R test drive to last and when i tested it, I put my deposit down on the spot.
None of the other cars felt as involving or as exciting as the type r. The BMW M2 was awesome, but the type r was still more exciting and at $40k cheaper in Australia.
The type r feels like an affordable Porsche Cayman GT4 or even a GT3 in the way it drives. I’ve driven both Porsche’s and yes, the type r feels like them more than like an RS3 or an M2.
I use mine as a daily and I’m very very impressed with it.

I like the length of the car and I like how wide it is and I like the ride height as well. I also want to say that I love the fast back styling even though it has 4 doors. I did not like the previous generation of Type R at all. The previous generation, to me, just seems like a car that was trying to stand out and be flashy and appeal to all of those Honda modding enthusiasts. The previous generation also felt like it was trying way too hard to compete with the Subaru STI and copied a lot of styling off of that. On the 2023 car I really like the simplistic styling while still having a race car aesthetic to it also just like the styling of the spoiler on the hatch and I was surprised to find out that it is a hatch as well. I legitimately think this is the first Honda Civic I have ever genuinely liked other than the 81 Honda Civic, which is the best car ever made. It’s a really cool looking car and it looks modern, but it also looks like it can be an every day driver for anybody and I like that although the spoiler takes away a bit of the sleeper aspect of the car but overall I really like the car.

@@trashbandit2449 both extraordinarily fun. the civic type r is so agile yet stable, that you get confident really quickly and can wrangle cars that are significantly more expensive simply because you can drive it hard and it keeps calm. the only thing that isn't great is the turbo 4 engine note. the gt4 is obviously even faster and mid-engine makes it want to turn even more. fantastic engine note, especially with a JCR exhaust. the gt4 challenges you to be a smoother, better driver because of how much the chassis wants to turn.
on track, I'd put Type R at 9/10 in fun factor and GT4 at 9.5/10 in fun factor. in terms of overall experience my Type R gets maybe 85% of the way to the GT4 experience, missing an inspiring engine note and GT4 suspension is just better. more compliant yet more body control. thats what double the price gets you. If I could only have one and it had to be my daily driver, it'd be the FK8. Seats more people, more comfortable seats, etc. But since I can have 2, this is my dream garage. Maybe I'll get a GT3 one day and really call it a day.

Hear me out on the price. The last similar (in my opinion) Type R was the Mugen FN2. That was sold with the same mindset of small number production but big budget development. It’s £47,000 which is a huge number for a Civic. But the Mugen was about £50,000 in todays money. A MK8 GTI enters at about £38,000, so £9,000 saving. But I bet you that this will hold its value so much better. Look at similar editions. MK7 Golf GTI against the FK8 Type R, even the FK2 is still holding great value. And it’s the last really of its kind. Megane RS, gone. Clio RS? Gone. Astra/CorsaVXR, MazdaSpeed 3, Fiesta ST, all gone. I think it’s more of an investment.
It’s not AWD either and I honestly love that. So many manufacturers make (albeit great) AWD systems and slap them in a car with a 2.0T and call it fast. Well obviously, it’s going to be. But, Honda have spent decades perfecting and spending money on making this faster round a track, more fuel efficient, less expensive to maintain. I think it’s a modern day successor to the Integra Type R. But that’s just my two cents.

The Euros complain about it being too big. Most of them will be sold in the US where it's a small car next to giant pickups and SUVs.

Love the new car...design is light years better than the last...wish it was a three door actual hot hatch but I'm getting SAAB vibes from the design...fantastic

Shame about the price. I certainly can't afford nearly 50 grand on a car and if I could im not sure I'd be looking at a hot hatch.

That’s the sort of price of most of the best ones now unfortunately.

@Lawrence Garikaiy yeah it's a bit ridiculous when you can spec a 'hot hatch' to 70k plus in some cases.

The dealer here in PA just sold theirs for $13k markup. $56k for a civic is just robbery.

I spoke with 3 dealers, the cheapest out the door price I could find was $65,500 out the door. These dealerships are a joke. They need to take a page out of Teslas book and get rid of these shady dealerships. They're completely not needed. Every manufacturer would sell more cars without dealerships
