Thanks John for an excellent review. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical perspective. Your reference to the Porsche GT3 is spot on.I have a 991.2 GT3 Manual purchased new in 2018. I have just acquired a Blue Type R ,as in your review. The resemblance to the GT3 is remarkably uncanny. EVO magazine infers that it is as though the Porsche GT department was involved with the Type R development! Dare I say , I think the gear box, clutch , overall ergonomics, those heavenly seats and utter driving enjoyment supersedes the much more expensive Porsche. Obviously the N/A 4.0 race engine redlining to 9000rpm , overall top end performance and arguably the best sounding sports car on the planet cannot be beaten by a 2.0 Turbo. Here in South Africa , the Type R comes with the full spec , only option is the colour, which is at NO additional cost.. For almost every other sports car/ hatch sold here ,there is a long list of options , which can very conservatively add 10% to the base price. The build quality rivals cars significantly more expensive. The Honda VTEC engines are indestructible. Absolute NO BRAINER - this is incredible value for a scintillating car. 🙂
I own a FK2 and love it, and for me is the best looking. The FL5 is also very good looking, but I love mine more. Oh!! just one more thing. Estoril is in Portugal not in Spain.
Such a phenomenal review of the FL5 out of all the various review videos I've watched. I could watch this over numerous times and would not get bored. Great job on keeping the audience engaged with the plethora of Civic-R and past Type-R knowledge!
"Over 100kilos lighter than the non-Type R version" How come I can't find any data to back this up? Honda's official stats for the car put it heavier than every other civic hatchback spec. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks for introducing the history of Type R. How about FD2? I never have introducing on your video at least. Or FD2 could be for local model for Japan standard?
Fair point, but “Hatch” revers to the hatch back tail gate. So regardless of size (and yes, you’re right it is an XXL civic) it’s still classed as a hatchback.
Nice review, definitely want to biy one next few years as a current FK8 owner. Have to say the FK8 is absolutely amazing, such fun cars and I don't think the FL5 is that better of a car when looking at price difference. However I do like the interior and no doubt as standard it is a better overall car compared to the FK8. And btw I love the way mine looks as many others
The new styling has certainly divided opinions. At least it could be seen as a 'blank canvas' for anyone wanting to make it look a little more aggressive.

I am so pleased you enjoyed the review. Thank you for your kind words. Most importantly, congrats on your purchase!! - John
Beautiful car ❤
It really is!
Of course it's lighter than the std Civic, it doesn't have all the hybrid nonsense to lug around. It shld be even lighter than that.
Yep, just as we mentioned in the video. Thanks for watching!

This was the best, and most engaging review I’ve looked at. I was hooked. Neck to neck with Savagegeese at the top of my reviewers list. Thanks.
Richard, that is so kind, thank you.

It's this sort of comment that makes us genuinely love what we do! Thanks so much for taking the time to write this. - John
Finally got mine in boost blue as well. I love it!

I wish we got the Acura Type-S here too

You're right, we didn't mention the FD2, we were focussing on the Civic primarily for the video. The FD2 is a sensational car!
Thanks for you answer. Yes I got it, I’m on FL5. That’s really nice car.
@@driven.videosfd2 was not a Civic?
FD2 is the most Civic here and the last k20 type R.
I think the Accord Type R could have had a shout out too. It is a massively underrated car.
this is great review, clear cut , solid and on the point. The drone view was exceptional
Thank you! Luke is our drone pilot, and he produces exceptional work.
Best hot hatch. Worth the rrp. Bargain compared to everything else!
We agree! Thanks for watching
Great video, I’ve had the EP3, FK2 and FK8 but I refuse to pay £50k for the FL5!
It’s a steep increase… but then everything seems to be asking a premium these days, right?
I think that if he drove an Intregra Type S his head would explode. I know mine did!
You might be right… there’s only one way to find out 😎
Why do people never include fd2 type r?
Cause they dont know the good stuff
Because it was JDM only
I love that Type R? but how is that a Hot Hatch? the thing is huge, definitively a fastback sedan

@@driven.videos yea I know that
@@RogueBeatsARG So why you ask then?
@@4Kandlez cause hot hatches are not supposed to be big lowered SUV like vehicles, it should be small and light, that's the point of a Type R

Excellent review! You guys definitely deserve way more views!
Thank you! ❤️
Amazing machine...
"Estoril in Spain "🤦♂
Whoops... did we mean to say Portugal?? 🙃
Great review👍
Thanks!
Excellent review, the car trueley is a masterpiece!
Thanks, Dale!
i expect it drives brilliant but it looks bland the FK8 is just a far better looking its a love or hate look but it gets lots of looks and compliments

So does the FL5, by people who hate the looks of the FK8
@@4Kandlez let me guess you drive a FL5 ?? enjoy the deprecation
The fk8 looks like autozone had a sale

Why so bitter?
They’re looking to hold some good money - especially when production ends in the next 12 months
You're just not going to mention the FD2?
