    Great review, Charles! I discovered that cleaning the battery terminals with isopropyl alcohol wipes and reseating the battery a few times can sometimes improve the indicated internal resistance from "Poor" to "Good". It seems that the charger also takes into account the conductivity of the battery's contact points and not just its actual internal resistance. This has saved me from discarding a few old NiMH batteries prematurely.
    I don't have the UMS4 but the slightly older Nitecore UM4 charger but I should think the UMS4 may also give out inaccurate Ohms readings if the battery isn't seated optimally.

      Contact issue. Clean the battery ends a bit and the resistance will be lower. Try re-seating a couple of times, it will show different values, depending on the contact it makes with the sliders.

    My UMS2 cooks the Eneloop Pro AA 2500 mAh at 1000 mA charge rate (which I set manually instead of the 500 mA default). It terminates way too late at around 2800-2900 mAh charged capacity and gets the batteries hot very quickly after it passes the 2500 mAh value.
    Should I perhaps try to charge them at a lower rate, let's say 700 mA? 500 mA might miss the charge termination.

    At this early stage of using it I'm finding it quite inconsistant, I can put an already fully charged battery and it charges it for 30min to FULL, then I take it out and put it back in and it charges for another 30min. Also, a battery is in and it says 94 Om Resistance, I take it out and put it back it says 400 Om Res, do it again, its 200. Will test with others.

Brand new Eneloop batteries chucked in n comes up with “poor” but taking it out n putting it back in “good”. Ive used Varta, Eneloop, Energizer, Olight, Nitecore and whatever is in my Thrunite torch.

    Some people have said in reviews that this charger is under-powered. Nitecore claims that it can charge up to 3 amps but I can't get it to go past 1.95. I connected it to multiple usb sources with PD output and it doesn't exceed that number I mentioned. Do I need some kind of special Micro USB cable to get those higher numbers? PS I put four 3,300 Mah 18650's in the slots.

    • @CharlesBridgTec
      @CharlesBridgTec  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lovely video, so much better than than other rambling videos that I earlier saw which made me climb the wall!
    I am wondering if this will charge my gumstick batteries that are 66mm tall with a width of 17mm and thickness of 6.1mm. These are used in my treasure Sony Walkman collection.
    These gumstick batteries have a rated capacity of 1,450mAh and says "Fast charge current = 290mA".
    I cannot find a suitable charger for these old style gumstick batteries so I am wondering if I could use this USM4 unit which seems perfect, IF they would fit and charge them at the around 300mA. These Ni-Mh batteries and originally the gumsticks were Ni-Cd ones. Hard to find good Ni-Mh ones even now.
    Cheers and I Love your channel. Liked and subscribed promptly!
