  • Frustrated with your existing #charger? Want something faster and smarter? This is what I personally on a daily basis, charging tons of batteries as well as troubleshoot customer batteries.
    It can charge a 5000mAh battery from zero to full in just 96 minutes! That's incredibly impressive when just last year you needed 8 hours to charge a 3500mAh battery with a built-in flashlight charger.
    I'll show you how to make sure you get the full 3A fast charging speed, how to recover batteries with the real-time display, and the different kinds of batteries it can charge.
    This is the #Nitecore #UMS2 and UMS4 charger. You can pick one up below here:
    UMS2 Charger - $59:

    Its unfortunate that you still require a QC charger for this. Would be nice if it had its own power module and you can plug it straight to an outlet, and charge batteries up to 3A individually

    I used the UMS4 for a while now. I charge mostly AA and AAA . I experienced some very dangerous overheating situations. Just recently a SONY AA CycleEnergy was heated up very much . The other cells were loaded correctly. It was obvious that the cell could not be loaded, but it tried to push energy in. I would recommend not to charge without observing the state of loading process.

    Great presentation as always. I have had a UMS4 for a few years now and I didn't know about the quick charge. I thought that because it only used the micro usb that it couldn't do the higher amperage. Thanks for pointing that out!

    Hello,
    I have a doubt that I would like to clarify.
    I generally use my UM2 to charge Ni-MH battery types, recently I purchased a few USB rechargeable 650mAh 14500s and I observed that the batteries charge in almost 2hrs 40mins using a 5V 1A power supply with USB cable and nearly 2hrs with the UM2 charger but after the charge reaches 650mAh the charger doesn't stop unless it reaches 4.2V. So is it ok to charge the 14500s till they reach 650mAh because I thought charging the USB rechargeable batteries with an Intelligent charger would likely extend the life of the battery compared to a constant power supply when every possible and while traveling I use the USB cable way. So which is the preferred method to charge USB rechargeable batteries to extend the life.

    These chargers will only charge 1x battery at 3A, it's a shame it won't charge 2 batteries at 3A.
    They do NOT charge at 3A when it first turns on, just 1.5A, you have to change it manually with the settings.

    The UMS series of chargers have an option to detect the battery’s ‘Internal Resistance’ and determine it’s condition as ‘Good / Poor’. (If the count is below 250, then ‘Good’ and above 250 then ‘Poor’.) So wanted to understand what is the ideal numeric value for Internal Resistance when the Lithium Ion battery is just out of the box(or may be after its first full charge)? Would it be zero or a positive number less than 250?

      No, it cannot be repaired. Just charge them at a low current so they don't get hot. It can still be used, they just shouldn't be used in high drain devices. Make sure to test it several times because the readings can vary considerably each time simply because of poor contact with the chargers terminals.

      Try leaving them overnight. If that doesn’t work then it’s probably dead

    • @craigs7181
      @craigs7181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't specify if the batteries are getting hot or the charger is getting hot. If it's the batteries, stop charging immediately! They are probably severely damaged from being over discharged. Never discharge a li-ion battery below 2.5v. Everytime you do it, it causes more damage internally. It's ok for them to get warm while charging, but if they get hot, the battery is damaged internally or you are putting too much current into it. Only high drain batteries can handle 3A of current, and even that is going to shorten the batteries life span if done repeatedly. It's best to always check the manufacturers data sheet for recommended charging rate. They will list a "standard" rate and a "rapid or fast" charging rate, but the fast rate will always decrease the number of cycles that the battery will last, usually by a huge amount. It's ok to do it once in a while, but do it repeatedly and you will be replacing your cells much sooner.

      @@NitecoreSG Sorry to confuse. Its a little late for me lol. I am saying if I use a USB charger that plugs into a wall instead of a computer or what not, will I get the full speed? And what I was also asking is if they sell this model with a standard 110-120v wall socket plug like my old i4 charger has. I found the information that the USB wall charger has to be able to deliver 2A AT 5volts to get the high speed. Is this correct?
