I used the UMS4 for a while now. I charge mostly AA and AAA . I experienced some very dangerous overheating situations. Just recently a SONY AA CycleEnergy was heated up very much . The other cells were loaded correctly. It was obvious that the cell could not be loaded, but it tried to push energy in. I would recommend not to charge without observing the state of loading process.
Its unfortunate that you still require a QC charger for this. Would be nice if it had its own power module and you can plug it straight to an outlet, and charge batteries up to 3A individually
Great presentation as always. I have had a UMS4 for a few years now and I didn't know about the quick charge. I thought that because it only used the micro usb that it couldn't do the higher amperage. Thanks for pointing that out!
I have 2 Nitecore ums2. Both are one year old, one failed today so it's in the bin. These chargers will only charge 1x battery at 3A, it's a shame it won't charge 2 batteries at 3A. They do NOT charge at 3A when it first turns on, just 1.5A, you have to change it manually with the settings.

You don't specify if the batteries are getting hot or the charger is getting hot. If it's the batteries, stop charging immediately! They are probably severely damaged from being over discharged. Never discharge a li-ion battery below 2.5v. Everytime you do it, it causes more damage internally. It's ok for them to get warm while charging, but if they get hot, the battery is damaged internally or you are putting too much current into it. Only high drain batteries can handle 3A of current, and even that is going to shorten the batteries life span if done repeatedly. It's best to always check the manufacturers data sheet for recommended charging rate. They will list a "standard" rate and a "rapid or fast" charging rate, but the fast rate will always decrease the number of cycles that the battery will last, usually by a huge amount. It's ok to do it once in a while, but do it repeatedly and you will be replacing your cells much sooner.

For some reason mine doesn’t charge unless I load in one battery, wait a few seconds, and put in the other one. If I try to put both in at the same time then the mA never goes up for either of the batteries.
Is the UMS4 capable of discharging batteries? Also, is it capable of being used as a power supply to charge, a smart phone, for example? If not, those might be good ideas for future upgrades.

I just charged a flat top 18,650 battery until it said FULL. I removed it and after a few minutes I put it back into the charger. It no longer said FULL, but started to charge again with the last bar blinking. It was fully inserted both times. Why did this happen? Edited to add that I’m using the UMS4.

The UMS series of chargers have an option to detect the battery’s ‘Internal Resistance’ and determine it’s condition as ‘Good / Poor’. (If the count is below 250, then ‘Good’ and above 250 then ‘Poor’.) So wanted to understand what is the ideal numeric value for Internal Resistance when the Lithium Ion battery is just out of the box(or may be after its first full charge)? Would it be zero or a positive number less than 250?

No, it cannot be repaired. Just charge them at a low current so they don't get hot. It can still be used, they just shouldn't be used in high drain devices. Make sure to test it several times because the readings can vary considerably each time simply because of poor contact with the chargers terminals.

Hello, I have a doubt that I would like to clarify. I generally use my UM2 to charge Ni-MH battery types, recently I purchased a few USB rechargeable 650mAh 14500s and I observed that the batteries charge in almost 2hrs 40mins using a 5V 1A power supply with USB cable and nearly 2hrs with the UM2 charger but after the charge reaches 650mAh the charger doesn't stop unless it reaches 4.2V. So is it ok to charge the 14500s till they reach 650mAh because I thought charging the USB rechargeable batteries with an Intelligent charger would likely extend the life of the battery compared to a constant power supply when every possible and while traveling I use the USB cable way. So which is the preferred method to charge USB rechargeable batteries to extend the life.
@@iandguzman I ended up using my UMS4 with a good quality micro USB to type C adapter. It might not be the most elegant solution, but it works well and i don't need to have a dedicated micro USB cable laying around.

Best chargers on the market. I’ve been selling them for over a decade at our shop. The UMS4 is my go to charger as well.
Thrunite chargers is also very good and shows all the data of individual cells all the time.

handphone charger is USB output. Cable is a different thing. You can even put a lightning cable to it. So I don't see the issue.

Try leaving them overnight. If that doesn’t work then it’s probably dead

you will be lucky if it wont broke in 1 week as mine. the smaller formats AA, AAA dont sit well in slots. find another producer.
If discharging for taking care of your batteries is what you look for, then look for the BC-700

What is the advantage of the UMS4 over the UM4? What type of user is the UM4 geared towards?
UMS is double the charging speed of UM. If budget is not a concern then just go for UMS, there’s not much point in going for the UM series.

Mine doesn't read the internal resistance worth a darn... can't depend on it at all.

Poor just means the battery is close to its max recharge cycle; the capacity won’t be as high as if it was brand new.

My new samsung 30T 21700 is reading 25mR out the box. And the older one 40T that i charge for 4 times now is reading 27mR.

Your truck probably has QC port, while the one you’re using at home does not. Make sure they both have qc3.0 and you’re set

You can try the new Ci4 or Ci2 chargers with usb C ports. Those have fire retardant materials and are doing very well
