    You are the first youtuber I have ever heard say getting elite smash is hard.
    I'm not saying that in a demeaning way! I mean it's kinda refreshing, because a lot of people like to pretend the game isn't hard for the sake of making themselves sound cool.

    • @Glyphmoney
      @Glyphmoney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      It's all a matter of perspective! If someone has been going to tournaments since 2005 they'll find it much less demanding than someone who's brand new to Ultimate. I wanted people to appreciate that it IS hard, even if you can do it quickly thanks to previous experience.

      @@Glyphmoney Yeah! A lot of people forget that not everyone is part of the 10% (or whatever it is) of smash players who actually go to tourneys/have played for years and are exceptional at it. Another great reason not to get too full of yourself for your current skill level because there will always be someone better than you. Much more preferable to be new player friendly and try to help others learn.

      Honestly it comes down to picking a character that works for you. I put so much time into Cloud and got nowhere with him. Switched to Sephiroth and now not only do I have 10mil Gsp but I gotta other characters into elite. Learning Sephiroth actually improved my game all around.

    • @Mattroid99

      It's not that the game isn't hard to master (It is) but that getting into Elite Smash means nothing due to how bad the online is and the Quickplay/Elite system is
      Online is terrible even at its best condition (Since it is very laggy many moves become harder to counterplay and is harder to be precise), and Elite Smash is a worthless achievement due to the sheer uncompetitiveness of how its built.
      Most player will fight you once and leave to protect their GSP (Which promotes gimmicky gameplay even more than the online already does, instead of learning your opponent), plus every ruleset can be used to improve GSP, even the ones with items: In fact the optimal strategy to bring the characters you want into Elite Smash is to use items/final smashes, a 1 stock ruleset and be prepared for it since your opponent likely won't.
      Personally I'm not that good of a player, yet I brought the entire roaster in Elite smash with ease by abusing this, that's how worthless of an achievement it is.
      In general, if your goal is to get better at the game and learn it, don't even bother with Elite Smash. Join a Discord server, go into a random arena, play with your friends and share with them the same goal, go to your nearest local scene if possible etc. If your goal was to go in Elite and you did it I'm happy for you, but it doesn't make you better sadly.

      Once you get a good grasp of how to play safe with each character and picking up on your opponents habits and punishing them accordingly you should be at Elite Smash level soon enough (I also have every character in Elite , just saying that so you know I am not some bad player giving you unhelpful tips and not some cocky Smash player XD). I really appreciate the honesty, positivity, and encouragement in this video. I agree that looking at most aspects of the journey to Elite as a learning experience really eases the sting that frustrating sessions can leave. I think once I fixed that part of my mentality, I was able to grind up to ES a bit easier or gain my focus back when I was feeling salty or tilted for a moment. Outside of lag, little actually frustrates me anymore during sessions, but I do tend to beat myself up a bit if I'm playing like trash. Overall great job in providing visual examples on the topics you were going through and great advice in general.

    Very good guide for helping newer players get into Elite Smash. This is now my go-to guide I'll show someone that wants to get better at smash. Izaw's guides were my previous go-to, but they are more suited for people who already are pretty good at the game because some of the stuff he goes over can be very intimidating.
    On a side note for mentality, might sound obvious for some people but make sure you're healthy and what-not. Saying this because most other games I've mastered in the past, I could get away with being tired all the time. Smash forced me to step my game up, and couldn't get into Elite Smash until I made myself healthy in every way. Exercising, Sleeping, Dieting, all things that help keep me more calm, yet have more energy, and the game feels easier because it feels like it's in slow motion by comparison to if you didn't treat your body right. Also if you don't sleep, you're going to have a hard time remembering things, so you're wasting a lot of time training because you're brain isn't able to concentrate.
    Also, join some community where you can practice together in smash and share tips. You'll have someone to punish your bad habits so you improve faster, and you get to have fun with friends at the same time.
    With all that said, good luck getting into Elite Smash!

    I just lost about 3mil GSP on my main (Ken) to losing to the same Ridley a bunch of times. He was so predictable and I kept doing so good against him, but I kept SDing.
    Edit: I took a shower and thought about the battles to see how I can improve. In hindsight, I didn’t do a good job utilizing DI, for example, when he had my in a flurry, I subconsciously DI-ed towards him instead of away from him. I also didn’t plan ahead for a diverse cast of kill options/stock enders. I’m sure this video will come in handy many more times in the future as I practice Smash Ult and use these techniques to improve myself as a Ken main and a Smash player.

    10:58 this part isn’t true; holding up and down doesn’t actually affect your trajectory but instead changes your velocity. Holding up increases your speed while holding down decreases it, so you should never hold up for survival DI. You’ll always want to hold in with varying degrees of down to find that balance to aim at the corner, which is much less intuitive and will take a while to get used to.

    • @Glyphmoney
      @Glyphmoney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're mistaken, holding up or down does indeed have an impact on your trajectory as well! Try it in training mode, it's an easy thing to see how different it is :]

    • @Jackpauler4lyfe
      @Jackpauler4lyfe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Glyphmoney well you’re right and wrong here. I never realized holding up/ down affects DI in a direct way, but that’s because I always accounted it as LSI (Launch speed influence) which is the mechanic I didn’t properly name before. You should still never hold up though for survival DI for any blastzone; it isn’t worth it over just straight inward DI or down + in DI since the angle change will always come with extra distance using upwards DI.

    I know it will sound cheese but that is how it happened to me: I accidentally got King K.Rool into Elite Smash once by simply stop caring about competition. Of course, the more stable internet (cable preferably) the better but more for the whole experience, winning or loosing, to be enjoyable. I love finding opponets who are respectful and knows that you lost a stock by accident and they just take one of them to level out, something I do so myself, not for pity, but because respecting the players is the true beauty behind it. When I lose to these people, I feel happy because it was a genuine combat and knowing this person got their victory and are happy about it is also satisfying. Whenever I find someone who is clearly under level (probably got the game recently and all) I rarely rematch them because I don't want anyone to feel low.
    It is sad how much toxicity there is, in the gaming community, towards other people. I never liked this. The foundation of Smash Bros., of Nintendo games, is to *HAVE FUN*. So just enjoy for what it is. If not, just play with some buds local or in Battle Arenas, without giving a damn about GSP

    Holding up and in when launched horizontally will kill you sooner than just holding in. Holding up increases your knockback, it doesn't change your angle.

    Geting into elite smash you end up geting into losing streaks, this happened to my rob so hard that I just stoped having fun with that character but after taking a break and playing with bowzer and wii fit trainer I know am having fun with rob again.

    I feel this cause like I have 2,000 hours on just the CPUs and I just bought online yesterday because I was bored of constantly 3 stocking the level 9 kazuya CPU and I found out that it's much more difficult than I had anticipated. Like I've got the combos and that's it. I can't edge-guard, I can't ledge-trap I can't do neutral, I can't do advantage, I can't do disadvantage, I can't do proper reads because I either miss space them or I just can't seem to stop myself from picking the wrong option even though I know what they're most likely to do. Just a few minutes ago I was fighting this really bad little mac player and I was positive I should've won but I never did because I just couldn't do it. Idk maybe I'm just not cut out for smash cause like I can't actively think while playing either AND I HAVE 2,000 HOURS.

    • @Glyphmoney
      @Glyphmoney  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have 2000 hours against a completely different style of opponent, don't expect that to carry over 1 to 1!! Humans are adaptable, while cpus are rigid. The ways you beat a cpu can work every time, while humans tend to change once something works once.
      But here's the good news, you're a human too :] you have that exact same potential to adapt in you, you just haven't needed to tap into it for a long time. Keep practicing, don't burn yourself out, and try to learn from your losses. You will be 3 stocking real people before you know it!!

    It took me 3 months as a Kirby main to reach elite. I also got fired from my job and did literally nothing but that and smoked a lot. For a regular person who doesn’t have 24/7 time to play it may take a year to do so.

    Honestly I feel like people who happen to not do that good at the game are underestimating neutral game WAY too much, like I know it's my special case but I've been told that I could main random if I wanted to since I do well with more than 70% of the cast but that's only because I've also been told I have great neutral. Like really all of your interactions bloom from how your neutral is played, always play in order to upgrade your neutral game and always strive to learn how to act and adapt to every possible moment

    I was pretty sure they changed up and down DI so it doesn't influence anymore how far you travel horizontally.
    So you don't need to actually DI up and in to survive, only in.
    Going up can still help you with recovering afterward, but it won't save you from the blast zone.

    Wolf is my main and only one in elite smash and my secondary toon link’s gsp is pretty high as well currently at 11.9M. One I started doing reps consistently with wolf, learning his tendencies and how he moves on offense/defense, it was only up from there. Yes I still go through rough patches sometimes in fights but he fits my style of my preferred fighting and I’ve become more of a complete player with him mainly I feel like

    When your good enough to get into elite smash by playing casual 3 stock games and then get pinned up against that one mario with the 1 stock 1:30 ruleset who spams the same combo over and over again or the ragequitting/lagswitching dlc character players:
