Bold to assume that noobs remember that the grab button exists
you’re godam right
So true
Seriously. I never used grab when first playing Smash. It always seemed like slow attack that wasn't very big. I never used it and then wondered what to do when my friend shielded.
Thomas Lecomte and once they find out they are going to spam it every time
I don't play anywhere near competitive level so it doesn't really matter but I have a stupid habit of not grabbing for the whole beginning of a match, remembering that grabbing exists, and do nothing but try to get a grab for the next 5 minutes
imagine being a gamer and going to college
Oh☹️
very sad moment
Could never be me
I already finished collage before covid started and i play games.
And wtf are you talking about??
I was literally about turn off my phone but this showed up in recommended, it’s 2 am
Dang it I missed the premiere by 1 hour
Mood
I’m still at school
Well since this says 23 hours ago and it’s 2 am for me that’s pretty nice
7 am for me my friend
To add on, this is why watching VODs speed up your skill level. You can watch how players can punish each other for their habits. So when you go to play an opponent and recognize the same situation, you can do the same thing as the player you watched.
What is vod?
Yeah man some of them are stupid
@ replays, like watching a stream or similar things like that.
The thing is, you can not overdo it, if you whatch smash 4 hours in a row or so, there will be a point were you begin to feel to tired to analyze and may become detrimental
This applies to Many things.
You stated the obvious.... and I think it’s going to help me a lot
He stayed true to his word about the Carpet Yoshi profile pic. Respect👏👏
When did he say he was going to do that?
@@the_r4ts At the end of his "how to tech chase " video, he said if he didn't upload in the next two weeks, he would change his profile pic to Carpet Yoshi for a month.
It’s soo narsty man.... that skin, is soo nasty (in my opinion). I respect whoever probably put that much effort in the texture, but it’s my least favorite yoshi skin
ngl I really like carpet yoshi
@@nonsmarts660 not gonna lie I really like you too, piggy. I mean mr. Mew!
Welcome back Banana Boy, I wish you well!🦖
As a fighting game veteran, I'd say this is pretty solid advice. The biggest step up in skill level in almost any fighting game is when performing any particular move is no longer an issue, and instead it becomes a chess match of predicting how to outsmart your opponent's arsenal with yours.
I would argue that this chess match is the core of all fighting games.
@@benjaminshields9421 Yeah but on different fighting games it takes a little longer to reach the chess match portion. To reach the chess match portion, you have to actually know most of the opponent's character's options. But then you have games where it takes a little longer just to learn one character let alone 40+ characters with over 60 moves each (Tekken).Usually, when you reach the chess match portion, fighting games become less frustrating, and more fun to a player that wants to be competitive. Just takes a lot longer to leave that frustrating period in some fighting games compared to others.
@@tyrenace6597 While I agree, I still feel that, until you reach that point of knowledge, you havent been playing the core "game" of the fighting game.
@@benjaminshields9421 Exactly, and that's why there is a frustrating period. Because you know your missing out. 9/10
Watching the chess matches is what got you into that fighting game in the first place.
Only to realize that some fighting games require you to gain so much knowledge to even gain access to that part of the game. That's why fighting games are such a niche part of the gaming world.
That "stupid analogy" about the fistbump actually helped me internalize this way better than anything else I've heard
To every Roy main swinging at their ghosts.
lol das me
I am precise and only aim for the opponents, man, beast, or ghost as Roy.
I once he played a Corrin that spammed Fair 10 times when I was literally across the stage.
I got to top 8 at EVO by floating to the top of the screen with Kirby and using rock. You're invincible while you're doing it.
Yeah but opponents can bait it out and grab you
I love how you explain
"Bro, just mix up"
so effortlessly. I feel like watching your videos is a refresher on everything I have learned playing fighting games for years, 500x faster than I took to learn it.
7:14 As a Boy Scout, I gotta admit that was a lovely reference on the bottom right corner of the video.
I honestly didnt even notice him saying be prepared lol, I just saw the scout logo in the corner and got confused as to y that was there.
Banana: Do not commit too hard
Me when i play against my bad friends:
HOLD SIDE SMASH FOREVER CAUSE THEY WILL ALWAYS RUN INTO IT.
Hey I forgot you existed. Welcome back!
Same
2:25 you're absolutely right, that's why you should follow the elbow to see where to pound it, and why boxers look at elbows and shoulders to predict incoming punches.
Even though I quit competitive smash due to inability to practice, I still love these videos!
I was about to sleep until you upload another smash bro video which I could never miss.
Cause I need to Get Better.
Glad you’re back! I follow you on twitter and I know you’ve been having some struggles recently. I’ll always watch and always support whatever you choose to do
I've been trying to figure out how to articulate this to my less experienced friends forever and you've said it best, nice work
I've already predicted where that SUBSCRIBE BUTTON was going to be and was ready to click it!
That's not that hard the subscribe button never mixes up it's DI smh my head
@@rjhypers_2256 ya take dat final stock
Did you charge your click before you smashed the like button, too?
Happy to have you back.
Also
"Don't commit too hard and react to what the opponent is doing" [cries in ultimate online]
"just like scissors beats rock"
um... you good?
no
I really appreciate the advice you give us after noticing the mistakes made by the beginners you fought. It helps me a lot and shows that you are a humble person ;)
Also, after your great "How to approach in Smash" video, I'd like to see a "how to flee" video. I explain : I noticed that when I loose the advantage in a fight and my opponent start chasing me, I usually try to survive by fighting back, but that only give my opponent more opportunities to punish me. It might be interesting to talk about it, don't you think?
I was just thinking about how you haven’t uploaded in while.
same
Glad to have you back bananaboy! You are a pretty cool smash bros youtuber!
Thank you for not getting cancelled. All my other favorite smash content creators left the platform for some reason O.o
He's back.
To save everyone 10 minutes.
- get good at reading your opponent
- don't commit hard
thats what i said lol
That, ehm, "punch" line was actually hella good at explaining the point. In basic life stuff we already act accordingly to what we expect, it's matter of time and playing consciously to develop this also in gameplay.
Smash players _HATE_ him! Figure out how he was able to start hitting opponents with this ONE simple trick!
I love you for uploading this, know you have people who will support you through all things, TH-cam or not
This concept also applies to Melee and many other fighting games as well, this is a skill that's very valuable to any one that's been drawing in pools
Even though I've been playing smash for a long time, I think this video really opened my eyes on some things, thanks bro
Welcome back! Glad to have new smash tutorials!
Moving on from beginner to more intermediate concepts? Awesome! This is something I’ve seen a lot of people I help struggle with. You’ve moved on from the, “Do this specifically and win more.” To, “Retaining information from your opponent plays a big part to winning, but not everything will work 100% of the time.” Excited to see if you will move on to more advanced topics like conditioning!
This video really helped me a lot. I've been struggling with some of these things for a while and I've been playing this game competitively since it came out. Thanks for the great info!
One of the most helpful videos on smash i've watched
I missed you, dude.
You helped me get better at smash bro, lots of love fam. Been playing for like two years now
welcome back hope you enjoyed your break and are doing alright given the world
Great video but
Damn why'd you have to slip Chris Benoit in there? Lol that shit was sad
it be like that xD hoping next it's Gilbert Gottfried
Long have we awaited. Thanks for the upload BB
I've been struggling with SmashU for awhile now, and I never knew why. More like, I had a feeling but was never sure and had no one to tell me. This very well might be my problem. It just not clicking for me and having no tutor was really frustrating, and we all know how much getting angry helps in Smash. Thanks, I'll try to do this more consciously!
He doesn't miss. I missed you so much, happy that ur back and hope ur break was nice.
it is so much easier to just show my friends your videos than it is to try to explain things like this myself.
Nice to have you back, loved your vids
I definitely commit way too hard every time xD I can't tell you how many times I have tried to 2 frame with Yoshi back air. It NEVER works lmao.
Although I try to play reactive I still make a lot of mistakes
It's super important to use your mind to stay focused on your enemy and what he MIGHT be thinking. The meta in this game is tramendous
Nice video bananaboy! This will surely help me a lot
Welcome Back BannanaBoy! Hope you're feeling better.
My brain completely slipped over the fact that you said scissors beats rock lmao
Welcome back BBoy i missed you so much!
Hey bananaboy, welcome back from your hiatus! I've missed your vids a lot, and rewatched most of them. I didnt even realize your return until now, 2 days later, because I didn't get a notification for this :/
I think this might be the reason this video didnt get that many views yet compared to other vids of yours... dont be disgouraged though, I'm sure they will return eventually because this video, along with most of your other vids were of good quality and I- a beginner smash player learnt a lot from it.
Thanks!
Thanks for keeping your word on the carpet yoshi pfp
ive never felt so depressed and motivated at the same time
thanks?
Wow Banana Boy this video is helping since I noticed when I fighting someone I fought for awhile I get reads/punishes since I'm getting used to how they play 👍🏾 (Also I usually do try to hit my opponent where there's are instead of where there going. (Thanks Banana Boy for the video and stay Yoshi😎)
More videos whenever u get time🤗
“You’re not going to get a punish on the opponent’s jump offstage if you don’t have the guts to even get off the level”
*Chuckles in Snake*
6:01 “as a result you punish your cousin” really hit home😂
Every time I'm playing casual matches with people and they play kirby, they float up into the air, and down b.
I don't think any of them, except maybe the one player who owns the game, have realised I'm punishing that specific option, and winning games because of it
Ah yes, scissors... my favorite counter to rock.
1:01 I dont know what to say about this... its, too clever
Okay I see you! Mixing up the timing for your upload. But that mang0 - hbox tho
“You punish your cousin for what he does”
Smash videos out of context are hilarious
SMH, that tip for post match fist collision is outdated. Social Distancing Guidelines require you to use the projectile version from 6ft away instead.
If you constantly mix up by always doing random but calculated option picks, then your opponent is going to be less likely to go for a read because they will be afraid of getting punished for trying to punish the wrong option
Wow this is very useful, I'll use that knowledge for my future games
*Proceeds to spam counter by habit*
This was actually helpful for me as the guy who holds shield too long in the corner.
My mans finally came back
My brother noticed the joy in my eyes when I saw the new video
Imagine attending college physically in fall 2020.
This post was brought to you by the NC State gang.
Banana Boy with the new release! Amazing vid!!!
Dang I hope this guy uploads again,I really like this fella
*return of the king*
1:06 Say wha? Scissor beats rock?
Why does this video remind me of "the missle that knows where it is, because it knows where it isnt"
Banana boy came in clutch my tourney is this Saturday and I just needed one of his tutorials
I’m not a “new” player but this actually helped a lot
The return of the king
Amazing tips. Been playing for a year and I learned a ton from this
That yoshi at the end convinced me
Return of the KING
Whoa...I really do grab quite a bit I realized. Guess I'll try mixing it up. Apply pressure to the shield instead of going for a grab that'll just be jumped, spot dodged, or attacked.
Bro bad player’s never mix up there options.
For example I fought a mewtwo yesterday and all he did normal getup roll. All that stock was is me getting 12 down smashes.
word. takes some a while to learn not to just instinctively press buttons like a robot all the time
@@Clipstostudy-rj8rg Double word. lmao. Don't stoop to a bad players level gotta flex dem muscles keep em fresh.
"bad players never mix up their options"
"i used 12 down smashes"

Now Grab hold of him, and don't let go. Don't let him go back into the abyss.

THE LEGEND IS BACK!!!
Oh hi
Imagine fighting over the front seat and you say: Nono banana boy said that scissors beats rock so I win.
Thank you banana boy for making September a pog month now
BB Welcome Back!
Yay! Bananaboy is back!
“Grab beats shield, everyone knows…”
Well thanks, now I know😂
“Do the Mango Hbox.” Nice.
Welcome back
8:03 hey bananaboy, I’m gonna say that the up air was a pretty good way at baiting even a player who doesn’t airdodge often to airdodge and punish them after landing. You would have to fast fall, sure, but it’s a good way to bait out an airdodge. Believe me, I’m no smashologist but I’ve done that too many times with Chrom back air to know (also Chrom forward smash kills from center stage at 80 and yes back air and forward tilt kill as well)
Welcome Back bro😁
1:16 the problem with that is most character have bigger character model then Kirby and just bigger grab range in general, so short hop out over Shield isn’t that good if you don’t know the matchup vary well
He's back
The only problem I see with this is that yes you can think about all the things you want to do but during an actual match you just forget and play by instinct which is so frustrating. At the end it is always like: I should have done this and that and I didn't I suck...
He's bacc.
