  • Its a good idea to check that the front piston is at top dead center and find the timing mark in the window to time the engine

    so it was a bad ignition module?

      No , i purchased a spare correct ignition module ( pickup senor ) and a CDI unit , neither made any difference

    hey man you need to role this bike over with engine off by hand until you see timing marks. then you can start static timing. you also need a timing light with a advance degree dile

      Ok although i think the timing is close enough to run the engine , i don't think the problem is the timing, at the moment i'm thinking about the carburetor being the problem.

      1966human the oil pressure light? the sensors probably failed.

      Its a carburetor engine, it only has a inlet pressure sensor for timing advance, i tested it and it seems to work

    Hey cobber. I have been toying with the idea of buying a sportster. You seem to have quite a bit of trouble with this 1 by the looks. Are they all like this. ?? Do they take a lot of work.

      Its a good bike to ride, the problem will be something simple, maybe the carbi
      dont let these videos of me fixing my bike put you off
      i think if i got another sportster i would get a fuel injected bike with the codes the computer gives you, it would give you a lead when something go's wrong
      I hadn't had a bike in about 25 years when i started working on this bike so my bike mechanical and electrical skills were lacking, but i'm starting to catch up now

      Im in the same boat. I just restored a 1976 Z900 kawasaki A4. Rides like a dream, Trouble is Im 55y/o & dont ride so fast these days I just cruise around the Adelaide hills soaking up the view & watch everyone fly past. I like tinkering & fixing but when I choose, not when something breaks down. I just thought a used sportster would be nice to cruise around on.

      No, timing it is maybe a once a year thing. Mostly just a check of it is enough when you change the plugs.

    Why don't you address setting the RPM before setting the timing?

      @bobrosso9147 ปีที่แล้ว

      what RPM do you need to set the timing at?

    Is that an evo? On my evo, the timing port is on the OTHER SIDE OF THE MOTOR

      Is your evo older? I have an 89 and I can’t find that hole anywhere on it. Maybe it’s on the other side like you said
