  • How to find Top Dead Center on a Harley Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster. This is needed when you have to repair an oil leak on your rocker box. TDC Is when the piston is at the top of compression stroke. This is needed to remove rocker box.

    Thank you for this. I would prefer to find 'top dead center' using visual ques provided by the rocker arms but I'm a little confused about the correct way to do so. I've actually seen different videos provide opposite info about this - some saying the rocker arms should appear to be at their lowest point, others saying they should appear at their highest ! Which is it ?! Thank you.

      Happy to help TDC top dead center. There will be no pressure on your rockers at the top of the cycle. Thank you for watching and all your support Bernard. If there's pressure that would put the rocker at the low point you don't want that. That means when you take it apart, you will have pressure on your lifters. You don't want to do that. Hope that helped.. Ride safe and have a great day.

    Hey Rocco. Re building the top end of my 2005 sportster xl1200r. Roadster. Have it all apart. Used this vid to find compression top dead center. Worked great. Ty! Question for you. Any tricks to getting the thin black base gasket off the cylinder base? It is so bonded to the bottom of the cyl that it does not come off. Trying to be super careful that I don’t scratch the alum surface. I have some pics of the cylinder if that would help. Any advice appreciated!

      This would work on all V Twins. Removed plugs so motor rotation is easier. Hope this helps.

    . . Okay if I'm having to redo the cams for the timing and adjust my pushrods do I need to find top dead center on the front and the rear

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Happy to help. All you're doing is finding top dead center when you do the front rocker box leak you find top dead center for the front cylinder. When you do the rear cylinder you find top dead center for the rear cylinder when you're doing that rock a box. I would do one rocker box at a time. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and all your support Paul. Ride safe and have a great day.

      Happy to help. there will be two tdc. one on the Exhaust side and one on the Compression side as you look at the video at.3:34 you will see Top dead center on the Compression side. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and all your support Sam. It is very important to get top dead center on the Compression side before you take apart your rocker box assembly.. Ride safe and have a great day. Any questions just ask.

    Hey brother, I have a 13 forty eight sportster xl1200x. Rear cylinder won’t run and it pours fuel out of the exhaust pipe. It gets spark but fouls quickly when I put new plug. Any suggestions?

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy to help. I would start with thef fuel injector. It must be bad. You could reverse the back to the front and see if your problem is in your cylinder. Buy a new injector on eBay. Thank you for watching and your sub Jeremy. Let us know how that works out, Ride Safe and have a great day. Hope this helps.

    Hey TWR, I'm trying to check/confirm timing on my 01 xl1200c. It has the big adjustable control module in the nose cone, TDC is a machined vertical line, and my 2 dots are supposed to be in the center of the window using a timing light 20 degrees btdc. My timing light is adjustable should I leave the dial at 0 or set it to 20 degrees? I'm using a clear view plug but can't really see them, I even highlighted the dots with white paint marker. Can you line me out on the steps I need to take, the manual wasn't completely clear. Also the red led light on the module only come on when bike is running, and it blinks dimmly

      Thank you for watching. Don't make it complicated pull the rocker box cover off remove spark plugs rotate rear wheel. job done when piston is at its highest point and rockers are at their lowest at top dead center. Hope this helps. Let us know how that works out. The HD manual is designed for you to bring your bike into the dealer plain and simple. Ride safe have a great day

    Question: I need to adjust my push rods and need to know if top dead center is good enough or do I need to find true top dead with valves seated completely seeing as a 4 stroke, top dead will not seal the valves every revolution? Thanks if anyone can help. 86 sportster btw
