    Adding a single fire ignition to your motorcycle is a must do when adding cams a big bore or engine work. But it also a good upgrade for unmodified engines as well. It cleans up the idle, eliminates back fires allows you to adjust advance curves and rev limiters and improves the efficiency of your engine. The installation is basically the same for nose cone Shovelheads, big twin Evo's and Evolution Sportsters.

    Harley got smart and moved that plug for the timing marks to the same side as the ignition module. For years timing a Sportster was a two man job because the timing plug was on the other side. I was in the Philippines in 1990 when my ignition module on my '89 Sportster crapped out. Luckily I had a set of Chevy Blue Streak points laying around. Had to go Old School and run points. I never did change back to electronic. Always kept a spare set of points and an emory board in my tool pouch.

    Great video as always. I just put the dynatec module in my 03 883H that came in my hammer 1275 kit. I used how to videos as a guide, it was pretty easy and my bike runs great. My icm was failing and the bike would stop running after it reached full temp and backfire. Wouldn't restart until cool. I used a hairdryer on it to diagnose. It would stall Everytime I put heat to it. Can't wait to finish the big bore kit in the spring.

      @@MiguelAngel-bi9qy I used the dual fire, same as factory. Most of what I got out of researching single fire was that there wasn't much to gain.

    Great video. The procedure is identical to that of the Powerhouse Plus, which is made by Twin Tec. I do have a couple of questions though. I put mine on a 1997 Heritage Springer. The instructions say you don't have to remove the factory ignition module (under the seat). I did however unplug it. I unpinned the violet/white VOS wire to connect to the same wire of my Powerhouse Plus. The instructions didn't mention getting 12v power from another source in those words, but it did say connect to the white/black wire from the kill switch with the white/black of the module. One of the two old wires I disconnected from the old coil is white/black. I'm assuming I can use that white/black wire with the white/black wire of my new module on the center post for 12v power and delete the old pink wire. Last thing mentioned in the instructions was to replace the plug wires with spiral core wires. Will any newer model HD wires work, like the Phat Spark plug wires?

    I just acquired a 95 sportster 883XL deluxe and it has the 53-644 ignition module but has a dual fire coil, can it still work with this or does it have to be a single fire coil? The bike cranks and gets gas just wont start and run not even with starter fluid, any help is appreciated!

    I have a system like that on my 93 883 hugger that I just purchased. Bike ran great idled nice and suddenly one day it just would not start. No spark at the plugs. I thought the coil was fried so I installed a new one. still no spark. It is a single fire coil. I do see the small red light flashing on the module in the nose cone. I see there is some sort of module attached to the frame under the seat. I assume thats the stock ignition module. it seemed to me based on your video you unplugged the original module and cut and removed the wires and original module from the nose cone. I looked as though you did not hook the wires from the new module back up to the the plug under the bike. You went straight to the other side and on to the coil. The question I have is does the ignition system still use the module under the seat or would the single fire module in the nose cone bypass that completely.

    Appreciate the tutorials. When I attempted to order the model shown at JP online it showed not compatible with 2002 883. Is this because it's a conversion to single fire from dual fire? Also does the old harness (ign. module) become irrelevant with the new direct wiring to single fire coil?

    I really appreciate your video it helped out a lot I'm currently trying to rewire my bike and I'm trying to figure out how to wire my ignition to coil. I have a two terminal duel fire ignition ( i believe). My question is the wire diagram says one wire to ignition but does it mean just a 12 volt constant source like trying into the power on switch on the handle bars? Because when I think ignition I think the start button but that will only have power wire starting the engine? Thanks

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a better understanding for the terms because I think 12v constant source as battery feed - something that has 12v constantly (at all times). Ignition refers to the igniting of fuel, the ignition switch switches that on or off. If, on a motorcycle, your ignition switch activates the starter that's quite interesting - most bikes have the start button separate from the ignition switch/key.

    • @jpcycles

    I had the Ultima single fire ignition system put in by a shop and my bike backfires and sounds like a shotgun through the carb with the engine off by turning the key on it fires one time when it gets powered and it ignites any fuel that is left in the cylinder always the front cylinder. Could you go a little more in-depth on the purple wire to the voes something's not wired right and I'm scared it's going to blow my bike to smithereens.
