My hope with this midi scale line was that Lego could give us more affordable capital ships. And while these are undeniably less money and more displayable than a playscale capital ship, the value is just not there with the price points they’ve set. Ends up feeling less “affordable”
The 200$ ons looks like a 120, 150 max, and the new one looks 45, 50 max. It look good, don't get me wrong, but it's really not worth 80 for a completely static set with barely any detail because of the medium
I was kinda hoping they'd include the "missing" escape pod as a spare piece. That's kind of a huge miss that they didn't even do that given the jacked up price imho.
It’s all right as a display piece. But 90€ ? I’ll stick with the older, much larger minifig compatible version. I’ll need to build a stand for it one of these days…
Imagine you get called into work for the rebel alliance , you get up male you coffee eat you breakfast get to work and then the empire shows up...bad day to be a rebel
The markup has been so far, I'm kinda moving towards Ninjago vehicles and dragons now. Much better pricing on a lot of them. And enjoyable builds. I wanted to have a collection of Star Wars ships, but I'm slowly losing interest, between all the black grey & white, and mainly the prices being so insulting. This one and the Imperial Hand, looked better to me in the pictures or on the box.
I found this review after buying this set and I'm excited to build it. I bought it to display alongside the Tantive IV hallway set as I think they will compliment each other well. I managed to get this for £50 here in the UK which I think is a good price against the RRP. What I most impressed by though is your review. You have a wonderful relaxed style and great soothing voice to listen to. So much so I subscribed off the back of that! Keep up the great work and I will definitely check out your other reviews. 😁👍
The pricing of the star ship line makes little sense when compared to the new R2-D2 build with a very desirable mini figure. Only $15 more buys you much more pieces, an excellent looking, solid, and functional droid, plus the figure which is worth $20 or more its own. Makes the price gouging even more obvious.
This video is very much of value to me. It’s helped me decide that if this set goes on sale then I’ll get it, and gladly, but until then I’m happy to wait until I can vote with my wallet for a cheaper price.
I find the image on the front of the instructions pretty funny. It’s a head-on view of the ship. At least it’s on the PDF version which I assume would be the same as the printed instructions.
I agree on your thoughts and feelings. Are you going to be reviewing the millennium falcon version? That's one I have thought about the most getting. Keep up the great videos!
A ship of many names, Tantive IV is one of the cooler Star Wars spaceships, and of course the first one we ever saw. If I'm only able to get one of the new ships, it'd be this one. $80 for this does seem quite over-priced. And wow, that old one has to be much more than twice the size. Sad thing is, I don't see it going on sale, either. Is it at least larger than the Executor I have on my table? I agree on no minifigure. You put it perfectly. If they included minifigures (or god forbid, two, since there's room,) LEGO would just jack up the price even more. And yep, people would complain the figures were being gatekept behind expensive starship models you can't even use the minifigures with. Then, if the figures weren't exclusive versions, they'd complain LEGO threw in a pointless figure that wasn't worth it.
Unless the ship has an open window I personally don't like to put minifigure in my sets so this works perfectly for me intge case of something like the t6 shuttle from last year I made it a cockpit for micro figures made from studs to improve the scale
You know what’s funny? I’ve never actually noticed the guns on the ship. I absolutely *know* it shoots, but this model is the first time I’ve *seen* them!
Definitely, to me, feels like a $60 set, but very well designed and a nice display model that doesn't take up a ton of space. But I don't feel like we should have to pay for the fact that it's a smaller, more easily displayed model! I also am unsure about the thrusters - the trans orange cones seem too small - maybe with some trans orange small dishes in there too?
I agree that the minifigure is not necessary, but it would be a nice inclusion (if the overpriced price stayed the same). $80 seems like way to much for this, though. Even with an exclusive minifig, it would be too much. Also, I'm suddenly bothered by the open brick anti-studs on the back of the stand. Maybe Lego should make more varieties of inverted tile, like 1xs, 2x3s, 2x2 cut at 45*, etc.
Ditto my comment on for the invisible hand. For me, however, the Tantive IV is my favourite spaceship in Star Wars and I’m building mine Sunday. I hate the stickers though. I will be adding one more, however, the Star Wars poster in the cockpit as on the original shooting model. However, if you look at that model it has more than the one missing escape pod, so perhaps adjust accordingly.
Not sure if it's a global issue, but not only was the white on the stickers not a good match, many of the white pieces themselves were quite inconsistent! Some a bit yellower to my eye than others. This is the first mostly white set I've put together since the Solo falcon - and the white pieces on that were all more consistent in colour. Didn't ruin the set because everything in A New Hope looks a bit dirty so kinda works - it's just clearly quality control issues, not on purpose.
you're the first reviewer to mention the fact that it's the perspective that makes most of us think the cockpit looks to small. the model looks great, the price is awful though and i hate the fact it has stickers, especially when the falcon doesn't - just doesn't make any sense
I still think they could have included a figure and kept the same price. Maybe they didn’t even need to make the figures exclusive, they could have thrown in Captain Antilles from the hallway set
This price point for this piece count, sticker sheet, lack of minifig is insanity. Does it need printed parts or a fig? No. Could they do it and still get filthy rich? Absolutely they could.
I’m a little confused by JANG’s comment that the addition of a minifigure would likely further raise the already frustratingly high price of this set. Hasn’t JANG explained before that all LEGO sets are assigned a price and parts budget during the design process that determines how little or how much the final product includes? If a minifigure was within this set’s parts budget, I don’t see how LEGO could further raise the price after one had already been decided.
I have so many mixed feelings about these ships. On one hand, it’s what I’ve literally been wanting for years as someone who generally doesn’t have the space for UCS sets. And I really want to buy them so that they sell well and Lego keeps making more of them…… buuuut, they’re just so ridiculously overpriced, it’s incredibly hard to justify it. I’m so torn 😂
But they are evil.. its barely cents worth of plastic. Anyway, not getting the last one of this (and also the ssd) these sets are increasingly rare gems in lego star wars.
Lego cheaps out on prints once again. What a shame. And at this price, it's a hard pass for me. Even for half the price I'd feel bad to buy this. With no minifigs, I'm sure you can build it from bricklink orders from much less money, even if you add the shipping costs of multiple orders. But it's not that good of a model to even bother.
The markup on these display/diorama models is just gross at this point.

I'm so torn on which of the three new ships to get! I love all three, but the price-to-love ratio is a hard decision to make.
Wow, a Tantive IV with proportions I'm actually happy with. Lego has been killing it with these ships, despite their cost.
Thanks for showing the size comparison at the end, really puts it in perspective.
Really hope the midi scale sets continue for a few years! I would've loved a lucrehulk or republic cruiser for the 25th anniversary of TPM
Seeing this model makes me want to watch a new hope. Great review JANG! Keep up the great job and I appreciate what you do for us.
I was kinda hoping they'd include the "missing" escape pod as a spare piece. That's kind of a huge miss that they didn't even do that given the jacked up price imho.
The strakes are really jarring to me because they're supposed to angle out from the centerline at a roughly 30 - 40 degree angle 😵
Pretty but I will wait for a sale.

I love this set but can’t justify buying it for that price.

I bought one yesterday at Wal-Mart for $70. It had a yellow clearance sticker on it. I was surprised that a set so new would be marked for clearance.
I like it. I would rather have the 2019 model but I like the Medi-scale size sets. It will look good next to my super star destroyer.
Unless the ship has an open window I personally don't like to put minifigure in my sets so this works perfectly for me intge case of something like the t6 shuttle from last year I made it a cockpit for micro figures made from studs to improve the scale

Love the look of it, but I’m not one of their target market. Just too expensive for what you get
In Norway it actually costs 100 dollars
I still don’t know if it was worth it or not but I think it has a good look from a far but the price.

Looks awesome will go nice with my superstar destroyer great review jang 👍
I love this ship. I need this model! 😄
Are these different colored 2x2 round plates in front of the engine nozzles by design? I see white most, with some random grey and red ones.
Very good remarks on the inclusion of a minifigure!

out of curiosity, does anyone know how this scales with the UCS Star Destroyer? looks like it might be close to scale all things considered!
Very nice!
But how good does it look next to a Star Destroyer?
Got all of these and this is is my favourite so far
Wonder if someone is going to do a same scale ISD now.
I have so many mixed feelings about these ships. On one hand, it’s what I’ve literally been wanting for years as someone who generally doesn’t have the space for UCS sets. These don't NEED minifigs, but Rebel Friend would've been a perfect inclusion, seeing as we're getting a new Jedi Bob later this year
🪩✨🪩 Model is Nice,🙂❤️👍But Price is Outrageous! 👎☝️💰
Good review!
Way overpriced. I love ur reviews Jang. Very balanced. I picked this up 2nd hand for 30€. Smyths have this on sale also .
I love it but definitely not worth $80.
But they are evil.. its barely cents worth of plastic. Anyway, not getting the last one of this (and also the ssd) these sets are increasingly rare gems in lego star wars.
Out of all the new midi scales, this one has got to be my least favorite. I think that the middle section just looks too weird.
I feel like Lego is just milking the Star Wars theme with repetitive sets.
It looks good, but not worth the price. Bring it down to around $40, and I'll get it.
In other words, I probably won't be getting it.
Lego cheaps out on prints once again. What a shame. And at this price, it's a hard pass for me. Even for half the price I'd feel bad to buy this.

These sets are an embarrassment
I dont get why someone would buy this.
Obviousy its not a great building experience.
Obviously its not an impressive display model.
