I imagine they increased the size of the enemy fighter to make it feel more like a fair comparison between the two.
Yeah when you look at it from the perspective of a toy for kids (which is what this is), this is a pack you can get and two kids will have fun playing with "equal" ships. From my perspective i'd also like it to be smaller but I can see the logic.
They increased the size to increase the piece count so they could sell it for a higher price

I would personally modify Shin Hati's starfighter so that she can sit properly in the cockpit
It feels like the size of the ship wouldve been able to accomodate that in the design
Despite shins fighter being a bit too big this is a solid set. Probably the best all around one. Good figs and a good build with so much functionality and storage compartments.
I'm excited to see what Jang thinks about the new gunship!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Why does she have to lean so far back when they give us a chasm of a storage box?
If you think they put too much effort into that starfighter for something relatively obscure, remember that this is also the team who, when Episode 7 came out, decided one of their release slots should include the Jakku Quadjumper (L 75178), that was in the movie for all of 10 seconds before a TIE Fighter blows it up.
And they put a lot of detail in it, including a button to blow it up yourself.... I love that thing :|

I already knew I wanted this set for the E-Wing, but you just sold me even more on it! The selection of figures is really impressive! Some cloth capes for the sith would have been a nice addition.
I’m curious if the old trans orange, like they used for fire, would look “better.”

Honestly, I just put a transorange flame into a lightsaber handle and it's still way too bright. So all the Lego Star wars TH-camrs probably still would have complained about it
I think the old trans orange is the perfect color for them, I’m sure if that color hadn’t been discontinued then it’s what Lego would have used for them, but the current trans orange is just too pale so I understand why they went with red
I’ve got a few old reddish-orange lightsaber blades from the chrome hilt era that look pretty nice for Shin and Baylan

Hey Jang, regular Trans Orange wouldn't work for the lightsabers, but how about Trans Neon Orange? those were available for Nexo Knights... Granted it's not the same situation as Rey not having a trans yellow blade in the Holiday Falcon set or Jacen having brown hair. Those to me are huge mistakes.
Trans-neon orange isn't even in production any longer, so not an option. The more I look at it, the more I warm to that idea, but I still think red is the closest match to the onscreen appearance of Baylan's & Shin's sabers per LEGO's standard visual translation. Their outer glow and the SFX glow applied to the actors' faces as well as environmental VFX is very red, and the blade is of course near white as always (the palest possible pinkish-cream). Only the part of the glow closest to the blade surface has a noticeably yellowish shift towards orange.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews I didn't know Trans-neon orange wasn't in production anymore, but I don't blame LEGO for not getting it "right" even if the color was available. Concept art would be hard to judge or assess without seeing the final product or even a trailer to get it right and as usual: Bad Guy = Red Blade. Even now that the show is airing is hard to tell the different hues in action as you say. It's only apparent when Marrok uses his lightsaber in the same shot as Shin... but Disney has made it a point to highlight the difference in color in the marketing material, specially in the new poster that came out yesterday :D

It's great to see some starfighters with actual heft to them again. I think a lot of people don't realize just how big even single-seat fighters are in the real world; even with as fantasy-with-lasers as Star Wars is, it's often weird to see a spacecraft that looks less massive than some WW2 fighters, nevermind any modern jet. They don't need to be super realistic but it's nice to be able to look at something and just take it for granted that yeah, you could fit a hyperdrive and a power generator and life support and such in that fuselage, sure.
I wonder if LEGO would have been better served selling these as two separate ships on the shelf, although I wonder that for every double ship packs.
It seems very strange that they built her fighter to not let her sit up in it but then give you a chasm of double storage.
The Cheapest set for this show is like 75 € ...they probably could have released these separately for cheaper, but I guess they just thought they could justify a higher price if they bundled it together, making a bit more profit.
As Jang said the E-wing alone would have been 50 , and the other ship easily 40 to 45, and if you are that close to 50, might as well make it 50 with a side build....
It seems with every double pack people only want the more recognisable build
-Darth vader vs a-wing: everyone wants the tie
- fang fighter vs interceptor: everyone wants the interceptor
- e-wing vs shin: everyone wants the e-wing
They would've been better making the e-wing with a speeder and sabine as a set and them making the henge a set to get all 3 villains
Personally, I'm going to replace the red blades with trans-neon orange ones, but I don't blame Lego for using red blades regardless. I think it was even said that those lightsabers were based off early versions of Vader's lightsaber when it had a more orange hue to it, but was still seen as red, so it makes sense to me.
I really like both of these spaceships. The E wing feels far more enjoyable to swoosh around than the standard x wing. Feels like an x wing would rattle around quite a bit but this one feels solid.

I think the size of Shin’s starfighter is great, but I am biased as I do love the ship design and color scheme. She should be able to sit properly in the cockpit though, and her alternate expression definitely should’ve had the flight headset. Baylon and Shin could both have used capes and hoods, and Baylon also needed a shoulder pad piece in my opinion. They gave Marrok one, but even in the show Baylon is considerably bulkier than him and that should have translated into his figure to better reflect the character.
Morgan’s figure I agree with you on, she looks great!
You are so right about this set having something 2012 about it. When I saw the thumbnail I was sure this would be a retro-set review.
My humble opinion, but this is one of the most satisfying building experiences I have had with a Lego set. I especially enjoyed the E wing build. Thumbs up from here.
These twin Starfighter packs are great for kids, getting a good guy and bad guy fighter. I wish the E Wing was the more substantial build but I've always liked it since the Dark Horse comics era
I'd like to see a new play scale X-Wing with the tapered nose design this E-Wing has, the designer really nailed it IMO. It's somewhat disappointing that not even the recent UCS X-Wing could accomplish something like it.

I'd get that E-wing on its own, but I don't care about the other ship, and unfortunately the price goes way too high for me with that addition. I like the shaping of the nose on the E-Wing, wish they could do that on their X-wings, those are still utterly straight when the cockpit and fuselage should basically blend in. I suppose it's harder to do, since the cockpit itself basically needs to be angled, but you'd think they would at least figure it out on the UCS one. I also wish they made a new canopy piece, since the shaping of it just isn't quite right.
The dual storage area makes sense to me. I mean, Han mentioned the Falcon's smuggling compartments in Ep. 4. One part could be normal storage, while the hidden-away part is for smuggling. 🙂
Absolutely love that E-Wing. No interest whatsoever in the other ship. Wish they used some of that budget on Ashoka’s ship instead
2:29 - I think that the secondary one is for smuggling and thus supposed to be "secret". 🙂
Following this review, in the latest Ahsoka episode, both the "dark Jedi" characters shed their outer clothing. Does this make this set more accurate than you think? :)
I'm kinda digging this double fighter pack formula they started with the fangfighter and tie interceptor, they could come out with some really interesting combinations in the future, assuming they won't increase the price anytime soon :'D

Great review! But I LOVE the generous size of Shin's ship. Wish she fit better in it. Amazing droid figure colors. MAN I wish Lego could give us a Droid CMF series with tons of colours of protocol droids, astromechs and gonks.

After getting the T6 shuttle and loving the minifigs an unexpected amount, the figs in this one seem underwhelming. Maybe it’s the serious lack of orange blades
the false back storage is a great little feature. Would love to see it added in to a Falcon model.
I’m REALLY interested in the E-Wing, but kinda lukewarm about the other ship. Makes it hard to consider committing to the price tag for this set.
I thought those blades would be closer to the older trans neon reddish orange, but I saw up to the latest episode and they were redder than I thought, so I think you may be right.
I'm glad someone else enjoyed the ewings wing connection. Slotting the wings just felt super good. I also did it multiple times.
The enemy ship makes me wish they did a Lego Fireball from Resistance. It was such a good ship design.
It is funny the set is E-wing vs Shin's fighter when this hasn't happened and will probably never happen in the series. But I guess LEGO didn't want to sell them separately for whatever reason.
I like this set and have already picked it up (for the E-wing)! However, as I recall, the ORIGINAL E-wing, pre-Disney, had a third cannon above the cockpit and the astromech was fully enclosed in the rear fuselage.... looks like some customization in my future!

$90 value is where I landed as well. I also think that when they combo things together like this, they ought to incentivize buying a larger amount of LEGO. Why buy this instead of the Xwing separate and Tie Fighter separate ($95 full cost). Plus neither of these are really "iconic" at this point. So where is the incentive?

I'm always a fan of Star Wars sets that are not just grey. The E Wing is really nice. One of the best space ships in awhile. Plus the price is only slightly too much. Nice job LEGO designers.
The E-Wing looks like the nerdy, greasy haired cousin of the X-Wing

I really dislike this trend of packing highly desirable ships with other, less popular ones. I can’t just buy a Tie Interceptor or just an E-Wing. It’s upsetting to have to spend on ships that I don’t want to get ones I do. Lego’s already expensive enough.

I just wish they'd stop it with all these 2 ships in one sets. I love the E Wing and I love the Tie Interceptor, but I really don't care for Shins fighter and the Fang Fighter and that's another $50 for both sets
I don’t really like Balen (sp???) figure. Probably is the beard but the hair seems off too. Fig looks more like count dooku to me
LEGO increasing prices but keep cheaping out on cloth pieces. That's really bad. We even have more stickers than ever before.
I think Baylan's hair could have been better as the piece that the blonde kid in CMF 18 had, but that piece doesn't exist in grey and may have been discontinued. I really wonder what they could have done to better capture his glorious beard though, a beard piece would have been too big imo.
I bought it for the E-wing....old school legends fan here...anything star wars that'll be worth something is without the Disney logo

The E-Wing has got to be my most loved good-guys starfighter we've gotten in a few years. Even better than the last playscale X-wing, and as good as the 2020 T70!

Remember we have seen only half the episodes, I presume part of the story later this is key to the storyline, especially the fact that Minifigures fit in it
To my eye the color of the lightsabers are closer to orange than red so I bought some blades on Bricklink. There isn’t a lot of variety with LEGO lightsabers so with orange blades I think the figures really stand out.
Lightsabers should have been trans neon orange, but unfortunately Lego retired that color a few years ago

Loved this review, Jang. Agreed!, I just want the E-Wing and pilot.
Kind of unacceptable the amount of characters that have to lay down in their cockpits when they clearly could accommodate. Sure we can rebuild and I would, but needing to have the right parts etc just makes the process harder than it needs to be if they did it off the start.
Everything lego makes this days is big for no reason except increasing pieces and prices to cater to adult collectors.
The E-wing looks amazing. Even as just a lego spaceship, star wars aside, I want this on display.

Although I would have preferred a more Eclipse Fighter vibe than I ended up getting, the Shin Hati Starfighter is in no way disappointing. It evokes the WWII era fighters in a way that I like, similar to how many SW ships draw design elements from that era.
I was SO excited to get an E-Wing finally. The underside appeals to me in a greeble way. It makes me wish my sons were still young enough to play Lego throughout the house and wage epic battles with sets like this.
