I have been digging into so many Pro and Post LDS podcasts lately. I find them fascinating. I really enjoy hearing and reading the contrast in each persons views. I am NOT choosing 1 side vs the other because BOTH seem genuine in their talk tracks and committed to their version of truth. I do have a sincere question/ thought.
I heard a PRO LDS Meso believer make a comment that there are some BYU professors who have decided that the Book of Mormon is “Inspired fiction”
    Is this problematic or ok?
I kinda think it’s OK, here’s why… similar to the Book of Abraham there seems to be so much value and so many lessons and spiritual power in these books that people associate and resonate with. Why does it matter if it’s fiction?? If Jospeh Smith was inspired and the lessons learned are valuable then why does it matter where it happened or if the stories and anachronism’s are even true. Isn’t the fact that it’s inspired enough?
Both sides of the geography argument keep putting forth arguments that show the other side is impossible to prove their thinking is true. And both sides have very strong info on why they are right and the other theories are fabricated. Can it be ok if both theories are fabricated and fiction? Can it be ok if all of the positives that come with the church can still be positives and move forward similar to the church has done with the Book of Abraham. I think this would stop giving argument points to the opposition and also allow everyone to just move forward not having to try and defend and make things up to justify what they believe to be truth.
Is it ok if it’s Inspired fiction??
Don’t smash me for asking, I’m just curious if it would be ok and allow these debates to finally end and move forward.

The debate is between those who believe the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, (Heartland) and those who take a scholarly approach and try and prove information with science (Mesoamericanists). The Prophets words will shown to be true.

@@riannelson67 I understand that. But that wasn’t my question. My question was “is it ok if both are proved to be fiction”? There are so many positives that come from the book and the religion. Why does it matter as long as it’s agreed by both sides that it’s ‘inspired’ the Heartland group has very strong evidence why Meso is impossible, the opposite is true because the Meso group have very strong arguments and facts to back up why they the Heartland model is false. So back to my question. Can it be ok if both sides just agree that it’s inspired fiction and then enjoy the benefits of the church without the back and forth argument?

@@riannelson67Joseph Smith wasn't a prophet he was a liar the Mormons can't name one thing this man prophesied biblically

If the Book of Mormon is fiction, inspired or not, then Joseph Smith would be a liar as he clearly maintained that he was translating an actual history. If Joseph was knowingly lying, how did he have the requisite spirit to write an 'inspired' fiction?

      @@BookofMormonEvidence
You just made my point for me. If it was inspired then he DIDNT knowingly lie. Just like the Book of Abraham. He believed he was translating something clearly different than what actually there.
So even though the book of Abraham is fiction doesn’t mean it wasn’t inspired.
He could have very well believed what he was writing down.
I’m NOT being argumentative I’m saying rather than continually painting the other side in a un winnable or un explainable spot maybe they can come together and say it’s inspired.
      Just a thought.

When reading 2 Nephi 25:18 it appears to warn ys that the prophets only spoke of one Messiah and any others would be false messiahs, for those who are fans of the Messiah Ben Joseph claim, how do you reconcile that with what the Book of Mormon actually teachss? Please dont interpret my question to imply that im saying Joseph Smith was a false prophet, he is a trye prophet. Im questioning the placing of the title Messiah Ben Joseph on him.
