I was thinking that too at first, but I watched again and thought about it. Only the dragons can effectively counter a dragon. They don't have the balests bolts and launchers that Cersei has.Unfortunately, because the dragons are the only effective means of countering Viserion, they will need to be close to Brandon when the Night King comes for him.It seems like the plan is to hold off the army (not beat), and bait the night king to approach (which he likely will on Viserion like when he destroyed the wall). Even disregarding all this, the living dragons need to be held back because the White Walkers are capable of killing them without Viserion whereas the living may not even be able to kill an undead dragon.So you can't just have your living dragons flying around the battle otherwise you will end up giving the dead more tougher to kill dragons and less of a means to kill them with your own living dragons.

at least get a hand that's balled up into a fist and run an iron sleeve up to his forearm to have a blocking / bashing tool. They need to keep him humble in the books / show so he needs to be impaired. If he was one of the greatest swordsman of his time he could switch his stance or hand without too much impairment.

Gotta say I love the attention to detail on all of the fortifications at Winterfell. The trenches, the wooden spikes, the dragon glass spikes on the wall. Makes it feel real like the early seasons.
The glass shards on the wall just reminds me of Ukraine :D lots of walls with glass shards like that:) in defense of random white walkers I bet.

@@Arander92 i think they would be made due to lack of time and abbundance of resources. you smelt the glass to make weapons, take the rest that is too much for finishing a weapon but not enough for a new one and throw it on spikes. wouldnt have time anyway to get through all the dragonglass before the attack starts, so you want to use as much as possible for every bit of defense for maximum efficiency
I think Sansa and Theon hugging was perfect because only those two could understand and relate to the horrors they suffered by the hands of Ramsey.
Gendry has amazing upper arm strength (referring to your talk of his skills) he was rowing a boat for years...
We also can't forget how great Gendry was at swinging his hammer* at Lannister soldiers' heads when Davos, Tyrion, and he were leaving King's Landing.

I think that the Starks' acceptance of Theon is less about Theon being a good person and more about unconditional love. The Starks understand what Theon experienced and the fact that he doesn't really have anyone else besides Yara, so they accept him. He needs them; without them he doesn't know who he is. They know that. And they have faith that he can be a better person despite everything he has done.
Episode two was pure fan service, but it was done tastefully and naturally. From a technical standpoint, it was great. Like the cinematography, oh my...

Yeah the people who use that but as a genuine negative and displeased criticism of the episode, I just don't get. So...... all of these people are thrust together in the same place (and in several cases people that knew each other in the past but had long been separated) and facing an unprecedented impending doom, should everyone have completely ignored each other, then? It makes no friggin sense, I swear they WANT to bitch about it.
UncleAnaesthesia sometimes fan service works, sometimes it feels lazy and cheesy. It worked here because it all had weight to it. This is everyone getting everything out because they think it’s their last night on earth.
whalwing25 agree. Fan service that doesn’t work was the downfall of littlefinger. They tried too hard to manipulate us and ending such a shrewd character so clumsily was cheap. But last night’s episode was well paced and emotional.
BlushGush my problem with that episode wasn’t that they killed him, more that they never once let on that Sansa and Arya where manipulating Littlefinger.
For me when Jaime knighted the best women ever, it reminded me so much of how her ancestor dunk the tall was knighted by his mentor

It's important to note that Dany saw Jaime at the Dragon Pit meeting in Kings Landing AFTER the loot train battle. Winterfell is not the first time she saw him since the battle.
Brienne is a beautiful character. So honorable. Person most worthy of being Knighted in Westeros.
Jaime is a better man for having known her. She is the most honor bound person in the show.

Other characters have been vastly different from their families. Blood isn't really the right word. Brienne just upholds everything that her ancestors have done for centuries

Now she's back at Winterfell with all her remaining family, she's back on her home turf walking around quite confidently and discovered the one guy she'd felt a real connection to (that was within appropriate boning age, as opposed to, say, the Hound) was still alive and he clearly was still attracted to her. You think you're not gonna be alive 24 hours later, why the hell not.
It was definitely a Shireen moment. Her music was playing. The Patch Face from the books tune.

9:20 I'd argue that Theon and Sansa's arcs are leaps and bounds stronger than Jaime's. Jaime hasn't changed much, we just know more about him now than we did in season 1 episode 1. As far as changes and storylines both Theon and Sansa have both seen more development and growth. *Cheers*

They could at least give him a small shield (or protective sleeve on his stump/forearm) with some dragon glass shards on it. That hand caught a sword a couple seasons back.
Something I notice you guys didnt bring up. The intro was different this week. The creeping ice started south of Last Hearth and the defensive trenches were around Winterfell. So the intro might be changing on an episode to episode basis this season to reflect the war and the lost territory in real time

Some people argue that crypts are different from graves in that they would not be able to get out of their tomb. I don’t think it would stop us from an awesome moment like seeing Lady Stoneheart or all the other dead Starks from before. It would be nuts if that’s what Arya is running from in the trailer
What if the crypts are some how magic and the night's king resurrecting the dead in there backfires and they join the side of the living?

Did u notice in the preview for next wk that they said "the dead are already here". Why would they say that about dead outside the gates? They wouldnt. They announced the wight army with the 3 horn blows. The comment can only mean they are already in the castle, which would mean the crypts.
So seeing as the Knight King was not in the closing scene and he wants to wipe out the memories of men. Did he make a beeline to the Citidal?

According to D & D, Dany was trying to manipulate Sansa in that scene and Sansa knew it. That's why Dany came in with the "we are women" speel and platitudes. If you rewatch the scene you can see the moment Sansa realizes what's going on especially when Dany takes her hands because thats what Cersei did to her once and Margary used to do that when they were trying to break down her defenses, though Margary was much nicer about it, she was still trying to get what she wants.

When Sansa says what happens to the north afterwards it makes me think there will be no north. A wall will go up in the river lands to separate the realms after a new packed. Like the season 8 teaser showing the wall of dragon glass at the trident.

I almost cried at this part of the episode, not only did sansa embrace him because he helped her escape, but he embraced her because without her, he wouldnt have escaped.
Also, how many of the people ramsey tormented and tourtured do you think lived to tell the tale? They might be the only two people to have ever survived him. Everything they both went through, and how they survived with each other.
