Perhaps Coldhands is the man, who gets his throat slit in front of the Winterfell Weirwood, who Bran saw in his last Weirwood vision in A Dance with Dragons?
And Coldhands’ real name might even have been Brandon Stark, as he says “I am your monster, Brandon Stark”, and in our Brans’ Weirwood vision after the man has his throat cut, we are told “…and Brandon Stark could taste the blood through the ages”.
Some of the citations might be a bit parafrasing from my memory, but still be valid for the conversation.

If the Kingsguard are a parallel to the Others, does Bran's desire to become a Kingsguard member foreshadow him actually becoming an Other?

  • @ChrisVillagomez

I kinda like the comment by Noir Jente at 2:21:52, maybe Jon Snow's birth wasn't what caused the Others to stir, but the executions of Rickard and Brandon Stark? Granted only Rickard was burned to death but just that alone, a Stark being essentially ritually burned, does seem like something that would piss off the Others if they were waiting for Jon Snow

I don't think The Last Hero was Bran The Breaker, as the doesn't fall in lone with all of George's "stolen baby" symbology.
I think that The Last Hero was a Dayne, who followed Bloodstone Emperor over from Ashai to stop him. He stole one of the babies who was going to be sacrificed to The Others and took the baby south to be raised by the baby's maternal family, the Starks. The baby grew up to be Bran The Breaker, the biological son of Night's King & Queen, who was never sacrificed to The Others.
As an adult, he goes to the Night Fort with Ice (the sword that House Stark) and defeats the army of the dead; ending the Long Night by banishing Night's King into The Weirwood Net and burring Night's Queen under the crypts of Winterfell.
After The Long Night, Bran gives the oringal Ice to the Daynes, who travel south with it and rename it "Dawn".

@@DavidLightbringer In elden Ring there is a huge golden tree (erdtree) at the center of the world, but it's heavily implied it's not the original tree but as it's underground and overground differ. The overground is glowy yellow and seethrough while it's root system is solid wood that spreads through the entire world.
Queen Merika the newest god of the setting deleted death from the laws of the universe. Instead all souls go to the Erdtree via:
      1. being burried in underground catacombs where it's roots are shallow where the corpses then are absorbed by the tree and fused with it
      2. brought via living jar to minor erdrees which are copies/descendants of the Erdtree
The Erdtree network spreads through the entire world even through space/time as the undead curse which travels through it's roots can be found everywhere.
it's also speculated that the original tree which was replaced was the crucible. A place where all life converged and exchanged traits of one another.
Ah and the greater will the one who made the new Erdtree arrived on a meteorite severing a land connection between 2 regions A cold one with giants and one with dragons.

I know that George himself said that beyond the Bone Mountains is really "Here there be monsters" but in my opinion, there is nothing major that seems to conflict with everything in the western lands except for the Azor Ahai/Night's King/Bloodstone Emperor stories but that can be chalked up to distant cultures retelling the tales differently over the time they've been separated from each other. Like come on, there is fire and ice magic that can both resurrect dead people, fire-breathing dragons bigger than entire villages, and various different confirmed races of thereanthropes like the Children of the Forest, the Brindled Men, the Ibbenese, the fishy-looking people of the Thousand Islands, and of course those damn Squishers that Nimble Dick taught us about, but the Lovecraft and related horror writers' setting names being in A World of Ice and Fire is too much? I actually really like how everyone incorporates Lovecraft into their horror and fantasy, the same way Tolkien pushed to the forefront our most common depictions of Orcs, Elves, and Dwarves. It makes the World of Ice and Fire feel far more alien and mystical than it appears to the average person watching the show, which still had it's good moments in seasons 6-8, but stopped being a faithful adaptation by dumbing down all the magic and mysticism because "Muh generic fantasy show"

Hidden in plain sight is the image of the Yin and Yang symbol which is painted by Waymar’s duel with the “white shadow” as seen from Will’s perspective. Waymar, against the backdrop of a ridge covered in a thin crust of snow, “dress all in black”, “turning in a slow circle, suddenly wary, his sword in hand” perfectly personifies the black dot in the white half of the circle. The white dot is a stand in for the tall “white shadow” that Will glimpses, the one that “emerged from the dark of the wood”. The sinuous line that separates them is symbolic of the flowing graceful movements of the “dance”. The two combatants, at least symbolically, complement, and mutually exist symbiotically. Much like a shadow owing its birth to light.
“In the light, we read the inventions of others; in the darkness we invent our own stories. ”, says Alberto Manguel.

@@DavidLightbringerThe image, which harkens back to ancient Chinese philosophy, is synonymous with the Hè tù or " Yellow River diagram". Hè tù, meaning river map in Chinese, is an ancient Chinese diagram concerning a real river that appears in myths and is associated with the invention of writing. It seems that Martin is paying homage to his own craft at the moment Will, our POV character, first glimpses the scene with the “white shadow”. And not coincidentally, it’s right after he hears the rush of a stream and right as…
“He (tu)rned his head”, (AGOT Prologue)
Notice that H-è-t-ù are the first four letters of the sentence that occurs at the precise moment the “white shadow” appears and completes the imagery.

The description for The Ice Dragon on Barbes and Noble is as follows:
In the world of A Song of Ice and Fire the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.
So I think it's fair to say that it's part of the history of Westeros, or somewhere else in the world, if nothing else as an old legend, as you said something Old Nan would tell at the very least.

just wanted to say that I used to be of the mind that George's symbolism in ASOIAF started of as coming through subconsciously and he just went with as the story progressed __but the more I watch your videos the more I am convinced he did purposely and consciously. Which absolutely baffles me! Being ADD I cannot do this when I write I have to trust my brain and follow where it takes me. I am unable to plan out any intentional symbolism.. I have to go through my own writing and find I don't know if this makes sense or not ..lol anyway Thank you again for an excellent stream

What you said about Tyrion recounting what was done to unwanted babies, plus the idea of a lord impregnating a new bride made me think about the Tyrion is a secret Target theory. And that by stealing Jaime as Tywin's heir, Aerys was redoubling his cuckold of Tywin, by turning Tyrion into the new heir.

Is there a pattern to which magics faded and which didn't? For example, the candles started burning again, and the red priests got more power, so it seems like fire magic is getting stronger. I'm not sure if patchface indicates stronger water magic. But other magics seem unaffected - there's no sense that the faceless men stopped being able to collect faces (blood magic?), the warlocks drinking shade of the evening have gained something, and bloodraven was still able to watch and send dreams, and wargs also seem unaffected. There doesn't seem a way to tell if the White Walkers ice magic got stronger, but we know Crastor was giving them babies for a long time, so they had magic. Dragons were hatched but is that the cause of more magic, or did it happen because the general level of all magic increased (maybe due to the comet?)
If magic is getting stronger then could the stark kids/Danny be more magically adept ( warging, greensight, dragon magic) than previous generations but no one realizes because they have nothing to compare it to? Or, could the various horns or prophetic subtancies and rituals be stronger now as well, so items that seemed like they were not magic in the past are now magical or more magical.
The comet seems a likely cause to me, because it's a celestial object, and you've highlighted a lot of symbolism. But comets aren't unique. There could be mulitple comets that cyclically pass the planet, but maybe they don't all affect magic in the same way, so sometimes a comet appears and people think it will cause things to happen but it doesn't always work that way.

  • @justincline8860

About the Horn of Joramun and dragon binder maybe being comet binder idea, Elden Ring has a very similar idea presented where one of the main characters of the story is using magic to hold meteors in the sky and prevent them from crashing into the land and when you end up killing the character the meteors come crashing down. Just an interesting thought that I had when you mentioned the long night in relation to a comet, the ideas seem pretty similar to one another.

At 42:19 someone asked a question I wish I could've been there to answer it, the question was: "Is blowing a horn to start an apocalypse a part of any real word mythology? Like Norse, Egyptian etc.?"
YES! Yes there is! And it is in a place many people wouldn't guess. The "Apocalypse Horn" is a actually thing in Chrstianity.
The Bible says that the apocalypse will come after 7 angels blow 7 trumpets, the 7 trumpets will be blown 1 at a time by each angel. Each of the 7 Trumpets will be blown to cue a specific apocalyptic event one at a time.
The 7 Apocalypse Trumpets cue different apocalyptic events which are:
The 1st Trumpet blown will bring destruction to the earth itself after it is sounded by its angel. Over 1/3 of the earth will burn up, 1/3 of Trees will burn, 1/3 of Grass will burn. (Sounds like The bible predicted global warming right?)
The 2nd Trumpet blown will cue the apocalypse of the seas or ocean. A 1/3 of the ocean animals will die, and 1/3rd of the sea will turn to blood, and 1/3 of ships will be destroyed when the 2nd Trumpet is sounded.
The 3rd Trumpet blown will cue the apocalypse of our water supply, after the horn is a sounded - quote "a great star, blazing like a torch, will fall from the sky, destroying 1/3rd of rivers and water springs, the star is named Wormwood(hmm, sounds similar to weirwood eh? Maybe a coincidence) and 1/3 of the waters will turn bitter, killing many people". ( I did paraphrase a tiny bit, but the quote is still 99% accurate).
So a falling burning star of fire will fall from the sky blazing like a torch and the stars name is "Wormwood" and it will detsroy 1/3 of the drinkabke water on earth.
The 4th Trumpet blown attacks the sky affecting the sun, moon and stars. 1/3rd of the Sun, Moon and Stars will be destroyed causing the world to GO DARK AND FREEZING COLD.
(Basically the bible version of "THE LONG NIGHT" and it comes after the 3rd horn which is burning star falling to the earth blazing like a torch that is named "Wormwood" - hmmm, maybe george did take inspiration from the bible after all, considering after the Burning Star the bible says a LONG NIGHT will come bring darkness and freezing cold).
After the 4th Trumpet is sounded, there is a brief pause before the final 3 Trumpets are blown. During this brief pause a TALKING EAGLE will fly around warning people of the final 3 trumpets that will be blow soon and the impending apocalypse they will cue.
The 5th Trumpet brings Satan - The Devil himself who will then have the power to use demonic influence which are described as "Locusts" that torment people who rejected god, BUT the "Locusts" lead by the Devil will NOT KILL the people who rejected God.
(Kinda sounds like the night king right? A evil devil from the pits of cold(instead of fire) who leads an army of locusts(wights) that don't kill people but instead torment people. You could argue the Night King doesnt kill the people since he ressurects them from the dead as wights - which could be the form of "torment" prophesized since they can't control themselves and are a hivemind(like insects) controlled by the night king, the fact they were resurrected from the dead and cant control themselves means they didn't die and are being tormented since they cant control themselves or die peacefully).
The 6th Trumpet blown will bring an astonishing amount of death, which releases 4 angels with an army of 400 MILLION that is considered a DEMONIC ARMY. Who will kill 1/3rd of people on earth again.
This sounds EVEN MORE like the NIGHT KING now.
The 7th and final trumpet blown will cause a LOT of events and gets pretty complicated and is still unkown exactly what will happen.
But the simple explanation is Jesus Christ will come back down on earth and wage a great war against the devil, his "Locusts" and the devils demonic army of 400 million fighting while the world is still plunged in darkness and cold. After Jesus Christ defeats the devil, he will make heaven on earth. However, this doesnt happen immediately after the 7th trumpet is blown, there is a lot of things that will happen after the 7th trumpet is blown and it is only a sign that the beginning of the end is coming. And that the great war is coming too that will decide whether or not the devil with his locusts army and demonic army of 400 million will win and the earth will stay in darkness and cold(since the sun, moon and stars were destroyed by 1/3rd) or whether Jesus Christ will win the great war after he comes down to earth and then creates heaven on earth.
So yeah, I know this was super super long, and I basically wrote a book in the comment section, but I think the Bibles prophecy of the apocalypse is very interesting and is very VERY SIMILAR to the Game of Thrones apocalypse. Considering the Bibles apocalypse has Apocalypse Horns(Trumpets) and a falling star blazing like a torch at the beginning which is named "Wormwood" and then a talking eagle flys around to warn everybody about the coming apocalypse and then the sun, moon and stars are detsroyed by 1/3rd which plunges the earth into darkness and freezing cold, and then the devil comes to earth with demonic power to torment people called "locusts" and comes with a demonic army of insane size(400 million), and then after that Jesus Christ comes to wage a great war against the devil and his demonic locust army, so that way Jesus can create heaven on earth(I guess Azor Ahai or Lightbringer is very similar to the prophecy of Jesus in The Bible during revelation).
Very very similar to the story of ice and fire, we have a falling burning star named "Wormwood", with Apocalypse horns, then a talking eagle that flys around warning eveybody of the coming doom and great war and apocalypse on the way, then the sun, moon and stars are destroyed by 1/3rd bringing the earth into a long darkness and freezing cold, and then the devil shows up with an army of tormented people called "locusts" and a demonic army of 400 million, and then Jesus shows up to fight a war against the devil to restore earth and create heaven on earth.
There is NO WAY George RR Martin did not take inspiration from the bible when writing the long night story. I didnt realize how similar it was until now that I have just re read what all of the 7 Apocalypse Trumpets do, I see so many similarities with the Bibles apocalypse and the long night in asoiaf.

Grimm Fairytale parallel to Night's Queen, Night's King, and 7 brother's of the watch he bound to him.
Snow White and the 7 Dwarves.
The Night King being the Prince who fell in love with Snow White after seeing her singing in the woods. Night Queen being like Snow White under a spell in which she's seemingly dead, but his "kiss" wakes her. Eventually in the end, Snow White, the Prince, and 7 dwarves live together in the Prince's Castle.

There has been a recent theory that the Wall is basically a line of weirwoods that are covered in ice. Trees bring water from the ground upwards. In cold air, this can cause the water to ice over and outward. The Wall has also grown in height over the millennium, much like a tree. The cause of the cold leading to the ice wall is alluded to in the books, mainly at the Night Fort. There are White Walkers trapped within the walls.

I'm not too deeply immersed in ASOIAF theorycrafting (except through this channel), so I don't know if this is an old, debunked theory or if you've addressed it before or what... That being said, when you mentioned the story of the little Ice girl who rides an Ice dragon to fight against the three fire dragons (or something similar), it got me thinking... since you had just been talking about the Wall.
On an earlier video, idk which, you described the Wall as being winding or sumn similar; i.e. not uniform, and I wonder if there is not a dragon inside the wall. Idk if it's dead or alive, but an Ice dragon. I think you were talking about the lady dragonrider trying to cross the wall and her dragon (maybe Silverwing?) wouldn't let her cross. You said maybe the Dragon just doesn't want to cross; it's unpleasant or something, and idk made me wonder if it was talking to a dragon in the Wall, or the dragon was talking to ?Silverwing?. Prolly only be repulsive if either the dragon was dead and or so massive that ?Silverwing? is just scared af when it realises what is there.
    Edit :-
P.S. Yes, please do a Stark Iceberg theory vid/series.

I believe that Craster is baby Maegor Targaryen. I think he's a special recipe of DNA that will make a baby suitable to be sacrificed to The Others and / or to be turned into a White Walker.
If Craster is baby Maegor, he's half Targaryen and half Dayne. His wife is a wildling of first men descent, perhaps with some COTF DNA.
I believe it's this same recipe that Night's King and Queen used, as Night's King was The Bloodstone Emperor from Ashai, thus had Golden Empire DNA and Night's Queen was a Stark, thus had first men and COTF blood.
They sacrifice their babies to The Others, who are the spirits of The Old Gods AKA The Green Men, who were ejected from The Wierwood Net by Night's King AKA Bloodstone Emperor AKA Azor Ahai.
Definitely where I think this is where George is going, and where I'd love to see a spin off TV show go, it's the PERFECT way to set up the "Big Bad" for Jon Snow to vanquish in the new Snow TV show, which will likely end in the same way that A Dream Of Spring will end, sans the odd decisions HBO has already taken the characters in.
I definitely think that The Golden Empire Of The Dawn and the creation of The Others / Long Night is the most important and interesting part of the lore.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

what's this about Maegor now? I'm confused

    • @LuciferChapel1987
      @LuciferChapel1987 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I believe that Craster is baby Maegor, the son of Aerion Brightflame and Daenora Targaryen.
This means he has Targaryen and Dayne blood; his wife beyond the wall will have first men blood, possibly COTF / skin changer blood.
Craster has major Azor Ahai / Night's King symbology.
This means that Craster's children, in a way are a recipe of ice and fire; making them the perfect DNA composition to be transformed into White Walkers.

I think Brynden Rivers is Craster's father and the reason it's his offspring is because he has Kings blood via Bloodraven. Also as Varys said "power lies where men believe it lies" to his wives/children(ew) Craster was practically a king. Maybe this is all some kind of pact made by the Others and Men, give them children with kings blood to repopulate?

2:18:33 I didn’t notice it until you mentioned that the Others were like the siblings of Jon Snow, but I figured this was a point worth sharing.
In the role of genetics, as far as humans go, the Y-chromosome is always inherited father-to-son (patrilineal). Thus, per the prophecy, Jon would’ve inherited Aegon’s Y-chromosomal DNA.
However, in the case of his mother and House Stark, he descends from the Kings of Winter and, of course, Brandon the Breaker. I always assumed that each Night King was a patrilineal relative of House Stark, and this makes sense given that after Jon was banished, Sansa became queen.
This goes onto the X-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA. From mother-to-daughter, she inherits the code of her matrilineal bloodline. Jon’s mother was a Stark, Lyanna’s mother was also a Stark. Lyanna’s grandmother, Arya Flint was the namesake of Arya and it’s said Bran got his love of climbing from her. How could he if they never met? Arya died by 263 AC, Bran was born in 290. Proof of a DNA connection? I know in our world, we find the idea that our great-grandparents trauma would ever affect us. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Martin’s.
On another note, it would make sense that through a direct patrilineal bloodline through the Stark’s, Jon would be considered a brother, especially given the circumstances he had been raised under. Perhaps someone else can manage to connect Rhaegar, the Targaryen’s, and fire into this…but as far as Lyanna, the Stark’s and ice goes. That’s my theory.

I think Rickon will become somewhat of a king on Skagos and lead the Skagosi to lend aid to the coming war against the Others & their wights. Also, in Elden Ring there are Tree Guardians which are a lot like Green Men.

Are you familiar with the theories of Graham Hancock? There are a few parallels between, for example, 1) the idea of a Long Night being heralded by a comet, particularly a meteor impact like your black rock / Hammer of the Waters theory, and 2) Hancock's idea of the Younger Dryas global catastrophe where the world was plummeted into a freezing period, the skies were blackened, weather disrupted, and sea levels rose dramatically at the end of the last Ice Age, all caused, as he claims, by the impact of a gigantic meteor onto the North American ice sheet. There was even a moment in his new Netflix special where he compared the way the edge of the ice sheet would've looked during the Ice Age to "something out of a fantasy novel" - a clear nod to ASOIAF. Hancock's first major work, Fingerprints of the Gods, was published one year prior to A Game of Thrones. I've often wondered if there's a connection. I'd love to hear what you can sus out from this possible link.
