The new M2 looks like an M2 from a 90's computer game where they didn't have enough pixels to make round edges so every hole and every corner looks square.
I went from hating how it looks to loving it. Long hood, bulging fenders and genuinely nice profile. I think it looks like a classic BMW more than anything else that's out right now. It has kidney grills and a hofmeister kink. The front bumper design is questionable, the rear bumper is downright weird, but I think it works. Definitely has to be seen in person to appreciated.
It’s nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be, but I still feel it’s a shame. The profile and proportions are excellent, but the details are so fussy.

M340i is classic BMW design language! Not this M2 at all imo!
I don't mind the looks, however the bumpers remind me of the aftermarket scene from the early 2000's.
I actually don't get the complains but to its is own. I love it, I ordered one. I love the muscular looks, I love the fact that no other car looks like this, especially in a car world that every car looks like any other. And I love the fact I got it in a manual. Also I love the fact that unlike the Supra I don't feel a claustrophobic in it and its a much better everyday driver. I ordered mine in Brooklyn grey and no carbon package because I am not tracking the car. Save that money put some great wheels on it that are half the weight of OEMs and you are good to go.

Now what's interesting to me is that this is basically Germany doing a Mustang GT. But now a v8 stang is nearly 100 lbs lighter.

It's not just the exterior styling, it's also the interior styling. The wall of screens dashboard is very off-putting to me. Which is almost the same thing as the new Mustang interior. Both of those cars are going to be extremely dated in 5-10 years.
To be honest, I never really liked how the F87 M2 looked. A bit too generic - soft, rounded and not very aggressive-looking. This new G87 M2 however just looks angry and potent. So yeah, I definitely like how it looks. Do I like 100% of it? Not really, but then I don't think anyone thinks of any car as absolutely perfect. I don't really understand all the hate for how it looks. 🤷

I can't. I just can't. I need to have a car that I "look back" when I park it. There is just no good angle of that thing, I can't get past it.
On another note: from the most recent podcast, Todd, you said the "coffee table book" of the best roads wouldn't ever happen because nobody would buy it given the production cost. But c'mon Todd. You're in video production. You know the cheapest Star Trek TNG episode was the compilation. You've already got all the B roll for a "best roads" video. Splice it all together, add some voiceover and you've got a video that will rack up views four years from now.

Another great video. I saw one at cars n coffee this weekend. It looks better in person. I would love to see it against the Cadillac CT 4V blackwing. I’ve never driven the M2 but found the CT4 impressive on a recent test drive
I actually like the funky chunky look for some reason. Also love it in this zandvoort blue. I have a Veloster N in performance blue . I remember everyone hated the FK8 when it came out..Now people love the 1st gen Type R more,,I don't like the Fl5 2nd gen looks..it's boring..so looks are subjective. The new M2 is quirky for sure but I like it. I'd take it in the zandvort blue with black wheels, upgrade the deck spoiler and put a nice lip on the front. Plus the fact it seems like a performance monster helps..lol..2 thumbs up BMW!!
I test drove a 230i last week (was considering a M240i but none were available). The looks don't bother me but the beltline is much higher than I expected and I felt like I was driving in a bucket.

Car is hideous. I love BMWs. Had intended to order one of these to complement my i4. I need something for weekend fun. While I can sacrifice some form for function, I still want to look back at my weekender after getting out and walking away. BMW is just producing bipolar designs right now. 4 series (yes I own one) has an awful front end. iX is awful, m2? Awful....the X5 and X3 look pretty good though.
The new split headlights on the 7 series and X7? Terrible.
Saw a handful of i4 this weekend in the city and the rear and profile looked good! Nice proportions but damn those front buck teeth!
The days of the X3 and X5 are numbered before BMW butchers them, like they did with the 5er. What a hideous FWD-looking car

Besides looks I love everything about this car, I even got used to idrive 8, set the climate to balanced at 69 degrees so you don’t have to click on climate at all
Just lower the car 20mm , some light forged wheels, small carbon rear spoiler, small wheel spacers or off set the wheels just 10 to 15 mm. some carbon bits in the side intake and a small understated fr. spoiler. Now, we have a hot sports car. Keep the exhaust if you are over 50.
Ok, I’m one of those people that like the look of this car. I would be lying if I said it is lust worthy like a Cayman GT4, but this car make me feel the same way the M cars of the 1990s did. I think this car should wear a “M3” badge as in my mind the inspiration was really more e30 M3 and it has little in common with the previous M2.
Oddly enough for me this is the Best Looking BMW in recent years … way better than Beaver Teefs. And I don’t even like BMW (don’t hate them either) so it’s definitely not the badge that’s attractive to me … but I really really dig this body style and shape.
For me it’s a great wide body muscle look.
That said I need to see in person … but on screen or in pics it’s my favorite BMW tied with the Z4.
Also my styling is weird I admit as I gravitate to Porsche 959, Veloster N and GR Corolla … so there is that 😂
Even Stevie Wonder would probably find this thing ugly.

I wonder how the M240i would handle with the same 275/285 tire setup? Even a 245/255 setup would have to make it feel like a different car.

dont know how the M division is doing it with this G platform. My g80 was 20% heavier than my f80 CS but 2x as good. seems like more of the same with this new m2!
For me, it’s either going to be the manual in this car or the CT4-V Blackwing.
I like G87 styling I mean f87 was better looking but new one is ok only not in zandvoort blue! Btw 8 speed auto fits this car power band way better.
Cars with no feel through the steering wheel are like playing a video game to me. It's fun for a little while then the 'oh it's so fast and takes corners quick' wears off, and I want to move on to something that communicates through the wheel and chassis. This is why I always go back to cars from Lotus or even cars like the BRZ (after adding a supercharger of course).

9:08 that’s what happened with me many times. First, I don’t like the look of the car but then, if I really like how it drives, it grows on me. Tesla M3 - oh, it looks like a pregnant catfish. After almost 3 years of ownership - it looks fantastic.
996, GR86, Supra - neither of them looked pretty. After spending time with them they are in my top-5 of the most fun cars and I like their exterior stylings.
New M2 is a tough one though. It’s so ugly that I can’t even imagine myself approaching it, let alone driving it.

It looks great in person, better than vanilla designs to please everyone but are boring and will be outdated in a few years. It seems you are just following other reviewers with the same cliches. This car has personality! I actually disliked the side profile of the F87 after a while. I owned both.
After driving it daily for the last 2 month, I can comfortably say that this is one amazing beast that matured in the right direction from the last generation. It’s so usable, yet enjoyable when needed. It’s a total package.
felt very heavy and lost all the good traits of the earlier M2s.
perhaps, this car is for people who wanted a smaller m4, just as bloated and disconnected.

Availability and pricing is extremely challenging. In my hometown there are none coming and when they arrive if at all there will be huge market adjustments! I’m not that interested in paying more than MSRP and going out of town to find one.

That light powder blue color of the test car does not help in the looks department IMHO. This design would probably be more palatable in a dark color.
Personality goes a long ways. I actually don’t mind the looks too much. There are a lot more uglier vehicles on the road.

Hey guys. I’ve been following you guys since forever and you have helped me pick my current two cars: Evo X and E90 M3. I’m looking to add another with ask being: 5 seats, manual trans. Budget is under $40k. Any suggestions?
The Nissan Z 400 is boxy and square and everything thinks it’s amazing, but I think it’s quite bland. Between that and the M2 I’d take M2! If I could afford it. So go ahead and give it ugly reviews, it’ll drop the price so I can afford it in the far near future 😂😂😂
At dealer today and had this exact color...freaking UGLY. The proportions are just wrong. Previous M2CS was sooooo much nicer. Look at some of the listings of the full Motorsport modifications dealers are heaping on them...looks like AliExpress gone nuts but with German prices. It may drive nice but it's ugly as sin.
Car is gonna look awesome once some mods are on it. Not to mention it's 700whp with just a tune.

Looks are subjective. I happen to like the aggressive design. The fender flares make the car look mean. Not pretty but mean. The way BMW hid the weight with engineering is impressive.

I posted this on another M2 video, but I will post it here too to see what thoughts people may have.
I am conflicted. I love my IS500's kooks, power, V8 sounds and Lexus reliability, but I miss a manual. Do I keep it or replace it with this M2 which BTW, has a more reliable powerplant than F87' S55, but not sure as reliable as a 2UR.
Any thoughts?

It looks like it ate another car or put another the front and rear look a different car grafted onto a center section. It's too big, too expensive for what it is.
3800 pounds is the same as my AWD Kia Stinger GT1, and the Kia looks so much nicer and actually carries four passengers comfortably. It’s 1000 pounds heavier than my GR86 and the GR86 looks gorgeous! And I want to like the looks of my cars. The M2 ain’t worth it! At all. My two car solution is far superior in every way.

3800 lbs Paul / Todd? Porky, obese, unacceptable. That is the weight of the late 90's early 2000's 7 series where rear passengers can stretch their legs. The heavier the car, the worse the fuel consumption , the worse the handling, the more wear and tear on brake pad, suspension, tyres etc . Fail! Porsche is always weight conscious and is reflected in all their products, lighter than the competitors.
I can't buy a car that I don't want to look back at after I park.
I like the look. I think it's just a meme at this point for car enthusiasts to shit on it for it's looks.

I usually like your reviews but I think you need to change your mind sets when it comes to what a heavy car is.
Light cars provide engagement not possible as things get heavier. We could all just accept it, but something would definitely be lost.
@@TestDriveVideos The only light sports car you can get these days that isn't a track focused weapon or kit car (e.g. a Caterham) is the good ol' Mazda MX-5, which comes in at about 1058kg in its lightest soft-top configuration. If you want a modern car that feels closer to the original E30 M3, the GR86/BRZ can fulfill that role.

@@FurkanCemTurfanda While I won't dispute hot hatches being a hoot to drive, they're not a substitute for RWD sports cars, hence why I mentioned the MX-5 and GR86/BRZ.
