The price of the Cayman is a tough pill to swallow. When I was cross shopping these cars with a max budget of about $65K, I found I was essentially looking at a base Cayman with almost no options, and a base Cayman is FAR more basic than a base version of the other two cars, we're talking a 2-way non-power adjustable driver's seat. Ultimately, I went with the M2 as it's my only car. The Supra would've worked for me (no kids) but I couldn't get over not having a stick. I know, the auto in that car is great, but I just enjoy shifting my own gears and rev matching (even with the rubbery box in the M2 that won't turn off auto rev matching without completely disabling the stability control.) A year and a half later, and i couldn't be happier with it, but like the video said, all three of these cars are great.

I've owned (concurrently) a 911 and an MR2 and I definitely preferred driving the Toyota.
I have an '11 e92 6mt and would have traded it for the supra...if there was a manual. I know the auto is faster etc but there's nothing like rowing through the gears!
Yes i admit Porsche pricing js a little ridiculous is you just look at the numbers, theres really not much going on there. But theres a saying a man have to own porsche at least once before dying 😁
I think you made the right choice at that price point.
yeah, the stripper cayman, even the stripper c8, are gutted a lot more than your average car at base level... its how they get to advertise such a low price to pique people's interest until they realize they need to spend another $10-20k to bring it up to par for basic amenities and features

The upsetting truth is that TH-cams algorithm is optimized for daily lowest common denominator vlogs and not high quality weekly content. Motortrend didn’t move to their own platform for no reason. I really hope this changes in the future.

The M2 was my under-$100k dream car, and it didn't disappoint at all when I made the dream come true. Unfortunately life threw me several curveballs so I no longer have it. One day I hope to find a clean 2016-2018 M2 again.

@@THATNI99AJOHN the difference is in the power delivery, the seats, the brakes, the mirrors, etc. The M2C is definitely worth the extra money, the S55 is also a great platform for tuning since there are so many options for the m3/M4 that you can also use if you wanna add more power

They’re all great cars. I drive my 718 Cayman every day. Get’s me to & from work & running most my errands, not to mention all the fun weekend drives I do with friends and the PCA Club.

Cool. Thr 718 would the best cayman if it had 6cyl engine. Its still could have small displacement and turbo i love those ideas, just not cutting 2 nuts

I just traded my TTS for a Cayman S……couldn’t be happier, and I’ve had 3 tt’s….didn’t even consider BMW or Toyota
The M2 is what the E30 M3 used to be. Relatively small, nimble and great handling.
I think it‘s one of the best sports cars of our time. 🤙🏼
The M2 is a rolls royce compared to an E30. An E30 is likely 800lbs lighter and feels like an early 90's civic. However it is the closest thing to the "old" BMW. In all actuality, the M2 is really a continuation of what the E46/E92 M3 was comparing relative size and weight.
Seems to me if they are going to include a sedan they might as well include hot hatches. Type R, Golf R, Veloster N.

I could only afford my 228i xdrive Dinan Stage 1 with 340 lb.ft. torque. What a balanced platform and a great handler. I once had a 4-series loaner car and it felt like it had extra weight behind the driver. I also drove the new M440i and it didn't feel like it had 380 HP... probably because it is so much heavier
The numb steering feel is what kills all modern BMWs for me. E46 all day.
One day I might have the opportunity to own one of these. Until then, there's Everyday Driver.
Count on over paying high maintenance cost, highly depreciating and just plain unreliable ownership.
...or just get a miata or brz. Similar experience, less expensive.

You can rent one. I rented out a Supra when I went on vacation and wow it’s an amazing machine
I hated the new Supra when it debuted. Now I own a 2021 and absolutely love it. I've owned a ton of cars over the years - a manual E92 M3, Focus RS (and ST), and 6th gen Camaro SS 1LE to name a few, and the Supra is hands down my favorite. This past weekend I had the chance to take the Supra to its first track day and by my 3rd session of the first day I was able to whittle my lap times to within a second of my SS 1LE, which took me 2 years to get a personal best of 1:39 at Barber Motorsports Park. The Supra is easily one of the most underrated sports cars on sale. It has great handling, a very quick 0-60 and 1/4 mile time, great exhaust note, and surprisingly good MPG. It may not be your ideal "Supra", but it's an objectively damn fine sports car.

I was debating between the M2 and the Supra but in the end I chose the Supra and have zero regrets. Pure800 turbo has me around 550whp and it's an absolute blast to daily drive.. also a lot cheaper than the m2 and cayman, grabbed my 2020 for $49k.

@Alex Gervais The ZF8 in the Supra can reliably handle up to 500whp. If you don't exceed that, you're not going to slip.
@Alex Gervais not at all. You will notice the trans slipping around 6-650tq..you'll be fine if you're tuner can manage the tq levels.
Pure800 turbo 550whp... this has to be done with forged pistons & forged rods + methanol injection kit + a stage 3 tune on top of straight pipe exhaust and upgraded air intake, am I right?
Drove one of those Supras for a weekend. What a gem of a car! Great weekend cruiser, backroad blaster, and daily driver (saw over 25mpg during my full 300 mile weekend). Wife loved driving it too...we will buy one someday
Were you surprised by how GT-able the supra is?
@@izzdin6228 I'm not OP, but my 3rd gen was a GT/sports car (and was certainly a lardass at 3,400lbs) so I've always considered them GT-able. That said anything is GT-able to me after owning NA Miatas and MR2s. My BRZ is my cross-country trip car ha ha.
...wish my wife was into (sports)cars....instead, she'd rather be in a Wrangler 😔. No, she doesn't prefer to drive a manual, but that doesn't mean that the car has to be numb. We are on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to cars and why I didn't give in and get an automatic on my most recent car (WRX).
@@izzdin6228 It did very well at it! The ride was very comfy for long drives, but very capable when the roads got twisty. That motor is very underrated from Toyota: 425+ft-lbs of torque to the wheels!

I bet , my doctor has a tuned Supra with over 500 to the wheels . He traded in a m4 that he loved also . He raves about the Supra .
Last year I was shopping all three of these, I bought the supra on essentially a coin flip. You can't go wrong with any of them but I absolutely love my supra and have zero regrets.

@@pirateshipproductions5859 You're gonna love it. Don't be too hard on it during break in, but don't be too gentle. Everybody gives me the thumbs up when I drive by. I got mine in the metallic white (apparently this is the hardest color to repair chips on because the paint is a tri-coat). They look awesome in red. Black looks the worst because it just blends in with the black trim. I hate black cars.
I feel like the M2 having 4 seats should have been noted a bit more as the video title states “usable” as the main point. However, the other two are definitely awesome cars.
Agree that’s my issue with the video. Why have usable in the title if there are no points seemingly being awarded for that usability. M2 I could literally fit myself and 3 kids can’t do that in the others.
I am looking at buying a M240i for this reason. Same engine family as the Supra

@Hussar0 The fact is that the supra without a bmw partnership would make the the supra cost as much as a nissan gtr more then 100k plus dollars because toyota would have to make a new inline6 engine that they dont need for any of there other cars. They save themselves and the buyer money this way. The A80 supra "a great car" was the last gen supra was over engineered by toyota and was to expensive at the time and that is what made the supra disappear for about 20 years more or less. Not that many people buying it new from the dealerships.The new A90 however is a great sports car that lives up to its name buy looks and the way it performs on the road and track although its a bmw 99% its better this way cause the supra is more affordable brand new and cost less to make. Toyota didn't need to spend millions of dollars on research and development on a sports car where sports cars in general dont sell in mass. The real purpose of the A90 supra is just to show the world that Toyota can make fun cars again.

Man i can't tell you guys how many of these videos i have watched over the years hoping to someday own one of the cool cars you review. I picked up my M2C in Germany on Euro Delivery two years ago and it was a dream come true and now seeing you guys finally reviewing it is just a crazy feeling. Absolutely love the car, all my friends and family love the car, it just suits me perfectly and I'm so glad i worked hard and saved to get it instead of just settling for something cheaper.

@@henrik1743 EU delivery actually came with a discount, you didn't pay anything extra other than your flights and hotels obviously! I have family in Germany i was going to see and stay with anyways so it worked out super well for me. It's a shame they ended it i think i was one of the last Americans to get to experience it

Great review, Todd knows exactly what he's talking about (great to hear somone talking about and understanding "chuckability") and is spot-on about BMW's lack of road feel after going from their superb hydraulic steering to now electric steering (for more efficiency = lower emissions reasons), I've had BMWs with both, the hydraulic definitely felt so much better.
The absolutely most perfect video for me! I've been trying to decide on my next car and the Supra and Cayman are both on my list. This just clinched it for the Cayman. BTW amazing video quality and beautiful footage of the landscape in that area.
you wont go wrong with either, I ultimately chose the Cayman mainly for alittle more practical storage spaces

They nailed it with this one. Without a doubt if you own any one of these 3 cars, you're certainly an enthusiasts and loving every minute of the driving experience.
I have owned the base M2 since 2017 and am very happy. It is what BMW M has always done best: take a small well handling 4 seater, rummage through the parts bin and make it an surprisingly good sports car. I have fun on the twisty bits, am able to pack for long road trips and even enjoy getting the groceries. Two seaters may be "purer" but this car is so versatile.
These reviews reinforce my choice for my 981 Spyder, it’s perfect. Your reviews are right on.

2018 M2 (N55) owner here. Modified it straight after break in. On track it's great and in everyday life it still fits my 4 and 7yr olds for the school run. Today ppl want to buy it off me for more than I paid brand new. You can't ask for much more than that. Plus, it's the best looking and sounding BMW they've made in the last decade... I think I'll struggle to ever let it go.
I have a 3 and 5 year old and looking for a qwekend fun, grocery getting, coffee run car. Really torn between the M2 Competition 6MT or the new 2023 Supra 6MT.

Bruh that last shot is amazing. I would have started with that one so more people could have the privilege of watching. But I guess its a reward for staying till the end.
As an owner of a 718 Cayman GT4 I can say I’d be happy with any 3 of these cars. The BMW has the functionality and can squeeze 2 kids in the back. The Supra has that ‘anti-status’, ‘better value’ thing going for it that’s definitely cool. The Cayman is sublime in everything it does (except sound). If the Cayman S had the 4.0L flat-6, then that may make the biggest difference in your decision. So which would I choose? The Cayman S, if I were buying new. A 2016 Cayman GTS if you’re smart with your money and want a car that’ll probably be more reliable in the long run than the M2 and probably won’t depreciate as much as both the Bimmer and Supra.
I have the M2C, and I can tell you that I can fit myself (5'10) and taller easily on the back seats. It is actually very roomy, a lot of people are surprised about that.

Here in Denver, I drive an OG M2 with Sport Cup 2's in the mountains on the weekends. I put it in sport mode and the exhaust note is glorious as you take those corners.

Having driving the M2 Competition before, I was really surprised to see it last in this competition. I was absolutely blown away at how good that car is. The Cayman and Supra must be very special vehicles.
The difference is like they said in the video, the other two cars are sports cars so they have better base dynamics. The BMW is right there in performance but it has two rear seats and a bigger trunk to carry around which is always a compromise.

Being an M2C owner, I would definitely agree with your conclusion. I picked the M2 Competition because of the fact that its an all-around car. If I could have purchased just a pure sports car and its between the Cayman or Toyota it would be the Cayman S for exactly the reasons you both mentioned. Great video.

I went through this same list of cars and ended up with a 2021 Supra. IMO to declare the Porsche the clear winner you have to move up to the GTS or GT4. Then you have to convince yourself that those cars are worth more than double the price. I bought my Supra Premium Edition $4K under sticker which put it at $53K. When you consider the value and the fact you can add another 80HP to the car for around $1200 it's hard to pass up.
Enjoy it, the supra is seriously fun.

I'm taking OG M2
If you need four seats or it is your only car I can understand going with the BMW. If not and money is not the limiting factor it’s Porsche all day long. Though for the money the Toyota looks great, though I would wait for the manual. I admit to being a biased observer though as a former M3 owner who currently owns 5 Porsches including a GT3 and 718 Spyder.

*get the Cayman....? (Sorry I just can't justify paying $85k sure its the better sports car then these two. But when you have $85-95k there are certainly better options out there (like 991.2 base cerrea, F type, Corvette ect ect)
Porsche gives you better name, looks, prestige and reliability. Its not a numbers car. But I wish it bad shorter gearing and some more power.

You can buy a base Cayman with good options around 65k, too.
@@strebrr lol base cayman probably doesn't come with anything.. Porsche with their options game. Gotta pay for nev, paint, air conditioning, larger breaks, navigation, back up camera ect ect
@@francisgomes9976 as I said.. "with good options". The base Cayman is ~56k € here in Germany. For ~65k € you will get enough options to have everything needed.

I am actually looking at the M2 comp, the Supra, the Cayman GTS 4.0, and the Jaguar F-Type SVR. I have never driven any of them and after watching this video, I don’t feel so bad about not being able to decide which one to pick. If you had a problem after driving them to decide, I guess it’s just natural for me to be unable to choose. I guess at the end of the day it all will boil down to what I want to do with the car. I’m not going to drag race or track whatever I decide to go with but I plan on traveling some back roads/highways on weekend getaways with my wife and we want something sporty/“special” to travel in. Hmm, I’d have to disagree about the driving characteristics. The M2 feels a lot racier than both of the others due to the way the S55 puts out power. That and the fact that you can’t have the windows down in the Supra without a migraine from buffeting; that alone makes it terrible, I’m sure most people would love to roll the window down and hear the sweet exhaust note.
All you need is to order a $15 wind deflector from online and you're good to go. Granted, it should've come with a wind deflector in the first place.

I own a Supra, and I feel you guys got the winner right. I like my car but it would have been perfect, if Toyota had built it! Faults, it's hard to get into and there's very little space to put things. I still like it and for the money, you can't really go wrong. Also that line "Competition, is BMW speak for how we should have built the car in the first place." I laughed out loud! 😆😆
I own a manual M2 comp and not a day goes by that it doesn’t make me smile. For the 60k mark I just can’t do a flat-4 Cayman or an auto Supra. M2 comp all day.

M2 is pretty special, but it's the only one of these that I've driven. Would love to try a Cayman sometime!
@@EliasTheHunter my mistake flat-4. I’m sure the 718 Cayman S is awesome, however, they typically go for around 70k-75k in my area which is to much IMO. Especially when a used Cayman GT4 (which is truly something special) is not much more. At least that’s my thinking.
@@jhouser972 yeah, I hear that! It’s all way too expensive for me anyway: I’m rocking a 986 S and a BRZ for winter.
BTW it’s actually a flat 4.
@@EliasTheHunter I always liked the 986. I’m considering a used BRZ for a track build. What’s your opinion of them? The NC Miata is the other platform I’m considering.
@@jhouser972 I’ve owned 21 vehicles, most of them fun, and the BRZ is my favorite. If it died, I’d just get another used one to replace it.
NC can be nice for the track! The low cost of consumables make it a wise choice. I don’t have nearly so much experience with that gen as I do the others, though.

Engine sounds.. Damn that Supra sounds good, M2 Second.. Cayman?... I will only settle for the new Gts or the Spyder. I still can't come to grips with that turbo engine.. Overall I wouldn't mind a garage with all 3!
The 718’s actually sound pretty good as long as you get the Sports Exhaust.
The 6 cyl is just heavier and hp upgrades are minimal. I'd choose the 4 cyl turbo and tune it to get 450whp. In the end it's a lighter and better car.
Porsche engines haven't sounded good since they drowned them in water. Oh, the BMW engines are also water cooled...
This is exactly the car dilemma I’m having. Leaning toward the M2 for all-round usability. I also grew up around BMWs so I’m fond of the badge.
