    And....forgot to say, the pdf manual for the 4runner/tacoma says to test the volts being sent to it and to bring a wire from the positive terminal of the vehicles battery to one of the two positive terminal posts on the IAC solenoid to ensure it actually opens and closes. Don't forget, you need to hook up a wire from the negative post of the battery to the negative post on the IAC also. Doing this opens and closes the valve.

    Thanks for the great info! I dumped over $3000 in my truck because of this issue. I have the same issue. I got pissed off about it one day and punched the gas and it blew both my cats and whole exhaust system right off the truck. Glad I found your video. Wish I found it earlier. On my 4th year with the problem. Hoping O2 sensor and IAC clean helps. I have a brand new MAF on it.

    I have the same problem with my IAC. The check engine light (CEL) is on and it gives a fault code of 'P0505'. I know it is the IAC. I tried to remove my IAC from the throttle body (TB), but did not have the impact wrench. I had to put it all back together. I did run carb cleaner through it to no avail. I do have the gasket for the IAC and I had to replace the gasket on the TB. I planned it it getting torn and, as Murphy would have it, it did tear.

    I had the same issue change mine twice the first one went bad cleaned it and didn't work had to buy a new one then 2 years later I had a small leak from one of the little hoses which leaked right on top of the IAC valve and it got bad so this part is very delicate it got bad just with a bit of over heating and the antifreeze got in to the mechanism.

    Gasket was cheap, less than 10 dollars. RPM at idle is somewhere around 750

    Hope it helps, it appears to be a pretty common problem.

    Thanks for the video. Had a squirrel decide to make a nest in my airbox and I got junk sucked into the TB... cleaned that and it ran good, but no cold idle (higher idle). After some searching and reading I decided it was the IAC. Thanks to your video it made me aware of what to look out for. Was in an out in 30 minutes with a perfect idle again. 95.5 Taco 3.4 with 280k miles. :)

      HEY, at least it wasn't a rat getting chopped up in your blower motor that got in when you left the "ouside air" vent on overnight.

    Looking for info on replacing the front brakes, alternator or starter on a 99 Tacoma? I have videos covering when I tackled those jobs as well!

  • @Duf
    @Duf  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well like I mentioned in the video description, I DID get a new IAC and it did not fix the problem. In my case it was an upstream O2 sensor and the MAF (which I replaced once before)

  • @icychap

    I have the same engine in my 3rd gen '02 T4R. I'm having stalls with no CE light. My mechanic thinks I need to replace the IAC valve. My thought was that if the sensor went bad I should get a code. Thoughts?

    I work there a lot of times I have just sprayed throttlebody cleaner really good open up the throttle plate and spray everything out really good and it seems to clean everything up and restore it pretty well I’ve done this on many cars but taking it off completely and cleaning it like you is a good a good fix instead of buying a new one

    According to your information, I am going to change the branch new MAF sensor, and the the ECT sensor if it not work.
    THANKS YOU FOR YOUR VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION.

    IAC screws are steel. Yes they are brass colored because Toyota zinc plates them.

    When you take the censor off and youre spinning the valve to clean inside. It is keyed or do you have to remember what position it was in when you removed it?

    Hello Duf. Got a question for you. When I turn on the A/C switch the compressor it doesn't engage until I press the gas then when I let go the compressor disengage. Replaced clutch and a/c compressor already and the a/c amplifier. I'm thinking maybe I should clean the idle air control valve, the toyota dealer calls it idle speed control valve. Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @Duf
      @Duf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea why the two things would be connected? A dirty IAC causes rough idle. It looks to me like "idle speed control valve" is the IAC valve.

    • @dominicene3647
      @dominicene3647 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Duf That's kind of my thinking as well based on talking with 2 toyota dealers. The part number they gave me is 22270-62050 which is called the idle air control valve online but toyota calls it the idle speed control valve. Weird thing is I found an FSM that pointed to maybe it being something else called the "A/C idle up valve". The consensus was that the A/C idle up valve came in the 3VZ engines not 5VZ but i pulled up an FSM which had it on an 5VZ engine which you and I have. To conclude me and my mechanic didn't find this A/C idle up valve and he will clean the idle air control valve we did locate and see what happens

  • @Duf
    @Duf  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The IAC Seal of my 2001 Celica GT was broken, coolant leaked into the
    Intake manifold, does that means the coolant enter the combustion
    chamber? Inside the intake manifold and on the throttle body blade
    there is a red-colored layer of coolant, what should I do in this
    situation beside of cleaning the throttle body blade? The new seal is
    already in place, which means there shouldn't be anymore leak.

    • @Duf
      @Duf  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not a professional mechanic and a Celica motor is a different design from the Tacoma so I don't have any experience with it. However from what you describe it sounds like some coolant could have gotten into the cylinders. If it was only a small amount it may be ok but I would have a mechanic verify it.

  • @sissonsk

    My 2004 Tacoma 2.4L was having Idle problems. It would idle at around 2k and at each stop it would fluctuate between 1k and 2k. I took the throttle body off and removed the IAC. I hadn't touched any of this in 13 years and 230k miles. I cleaned the IAC as best I could but it looked like it wouldn't function as it was fairly dirty. I closed the valve and cleaned the door(?). I decided to leave this closed. I got it all back together and the truck had a difficult time starting and I had to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep th motor running. A drove the truck around and the idle finally settled down and it idles near what it should. I think I need a new IAC though. Thanks for the video. It was a big help.
