    Thanks again, after replacing my air intake hose I followed this video to clean my throttle body and IAC. It was very dirty with 238k but it cranked right up and runs great. Thanks also to the folks who left comments and tips. 2000 prerunner V6.

    Wait a minute, first, "this hose" is a coolant hose, a warning about that is warranted...possibly even pinching off that hose. Secondly, why would you ever suggest using carburetor cleaner? Carb cleaner is heavily concentrated with ether, and ether will eat away at the coating applied to all fuel injected vehicles in latter years to reduce carbon buildup. Use throttle body cleaner only for this task. Why not explain why that oily buildup exists in the upper intake plenum? If you're at this point, you might as well suggest at the very least replacing the pcv valve....a warning about the high idle speed and the relearn of the tps would be nice. Not to nitpick, but if you're doing "pro" content....

      03 Tacoma 4 banger here. It’s got kind of a rough idle. I plan to do this. Needs a new catalytic converter as well. Other than that runs like a damn horse. Will update if this helps the idle. 190k miles.

    • @DougHinVA
      @DougHinVA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes; the throttle mounting gasket is thin metal and is 'crushed' to make a good seal, so a new one is needed when re-attaching the throttle body...

  • @rhettdopwell9367

    Did this job recently. Spent a lot more time cleaning my ISCV. Tip- remove gasket so it does not get cleaner on it. Mine got swollen and could no longer fit. Now idle is very high and I am trying to bring it down. It used to fluctuate a lot and more recently it was cutting off and triggered check engine light.

    Nice video, however, do not use carburetor cleaner. Instead use throttle body cleaner. Carb cleaner leaves deposits whereas throttle body cleaner does not and is made just for this job.

    • @Z-Ack

      I use brake cleaner.. as long as you dont got any sensors poking out or plastic junk anywhere you should be good..

    • @jamesfarmer2748

      Listen to this guy. Throttle body cleaner leaves a dry lubricant behind and as another commenter mentioned its not too harsh for on plastics or throttle position sensors and iac valves

    Good video. I must say, however, that carburetor cleaner may adversely affect certain kinds of rubber gasket, causing them to swell and/or crack, so I generally use citrus based solvents, which do not contain alcohol or petroleum based solvents. (I have made this mistake before :) ). Thank you for your high quality video, I loved the in depth and easy to follow instructions.

    It's a 3.4v6 5vze... Excellent video. I like how you make it really easy to see all the bolts, etc. you have to remove. Seems you forgot to mention you need to drain the coolant a lil, so coolant doesn't flow out of the hose you removed from the IAC. Or you can also not drain the coolant and just hold the hoses up above the coolant level with tape or a hose clamp. Your choice.

    Hello,I have Toyota Corolla Fielder motor 1.8 1ZZE, I did a test, I removed the rubber from the air filter, so I had access to the throttle body, I started up and gradually covered the air intake that enters the IAC valve, as the covers stretch to stop until when completely covered, the engine stops. But I can't find the fault, which is that it starts and as it warms up the rpm goes up to almost 2000 rpm. Then when driving on the street or highway, if you leave it in neutral, the rpm goes up to 2000 and goes down to 1000 until in a moment if I stop the car they go to 2000. A query, I made contact, I measured the female card of the IAC with tester and 12 volts to the positive (black cable) arrive at the connector, nothing to the ground cable and the other signal 0.14 volts and the signal 0.14 volts..., I also tell you that if I disconnect the connector from the IAC, the car runs and does the same problem. I am very concerned that it may be the ECU that may be sending an inappropriate voltage. thanks for your help

  • @scottstruif3939

    I cleaned the throttle plate on one of these without removing the throttle body from the truck. I would caution anyone who does so to spray the cleaner on a shop rag. Do not spray cleaner into the throttle opening. Dissolved crud will run into the IAC, necessitating removal of the throttle body.

    Do you have to bleed the system after putting everything back to place since some of the hoses where coolant runs were disconnected?

    • @corpsetime
      @corpsetime 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      probably wouldn't lose enough coolant to warrant bleeding the system. if ya need to, top up coolant level if it has gone down. otherwise take it for a drive and check once its cooled down again.

    Next, you're left with a high idle after cleaning! Uggh! That's what happened to me! Before cleaning, car was shutting off at stops, after cleaning, now a 2000 idle on cold start and 1500 idle once warmed up in park and neutral, 1000 rpm in drive was warmed up. Been driving the 1998 4runner for 2 weeks, nothing's changing. Don't know what to do. Unhooked battery for an hour but that did nothing. : ((

      Isn't closing, or there's space around it when it is closed?
      There may be an adjustment screw for the tilt action limit of the plate. (I haven't checked)
      OR
      It's apparently common among these Toyotas that a gap forms between the throttle plate and the bore of the throttle body housing. I just saw guys in a forum mention using a business in FL called MaxBore for doing a re-bore/plate service on their throttle body and it solving the idle issues.
      I'm chasing the gremlins too. Good luck

      It happens a lot.. but should go away after a minute or two. Try shutting the vehicle off and restarting it if not. You also could have coated one of the sensors with the cleaner spray which is causing it to misread... should go away too after a minute unless you used something like brake cleaner on your intake parts (don't recommended).

    My truck is throwing the check engine light and idling high/rough occasionally, it comes and goes. Last time my truck did this it was winter and it idled really high (behaviour is not quite the same this time). Last time toyota dealer sourced a used throttle bottle as they cited a sensor as the issue and said they were not replaceable on their own. A) is that true? B) My mechanic (not toyota dealer) said the current error is associated with O2 sensor, but said as long as it is running okay to just leave well enough alone. Is it possible that current issue is a dirty throttle body? It was replaced 5 years ago and has had less than 10,000 miles on it since that time.

      Yeah it could just be a dirty throttle bore and IAC. I'd clean both and see what happens. Thank you for watching!
