  • "24-Hour Dopamine Fast" on Mr. Smart, where we explore five vital benefits of this transformative detox in our hyper-digital world.
    In our digital age, we're constantly drawn to social media, Netflix, and video games. These distractions hijack our focus, and sugary snacks fill our boredom gaps.
    It's all about dopamine - scrolling through Instagram, TH-cam, Facebook likes, or gaming triggers dopamine surges, creating addiction loops.
    To break free, I embraced a 24-Hour Dopamine Fast:
    No electronics
    No reading
    No sex or masturbation
    No food
    No talking
    No music, podcasts, or stimulants
    During this reset, I focused on writing, meditation, walks, deep thinking, visualization, and staying hydrated.
    This experience brought incredible stillness and focus to my mind, rare in our overstimulated world. It clarified my business vision, boosted my energy, and reconnected me with authentic thoughts.
    The fast revealed our time-wasting habits and highlighted the need to balance digital distractions with personal growth.
    I encourage you to try it, even with modified rules. Share your experience in the comments.

      Just take the first step and plan your Dopamine Detox. In today's digital world, we all need Dopamine Detox to a varying degree. What is your top most addiction? Social media or something else?

    • @jakelarsen139
      @jakelarsen139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Truthfully it’s just distraction in general. The parts you talked about getting bored; can’t tell you how frequently I am with my kids then just start scrolling social media, or when I play online poker rather than study at work or workout like I said I was going too. Just using dopamine hits in an unfocused way in general. Need to become more disciplined and use dopamine to benefit me rather than distract.

      @@JoinMrSmart I did the 24 hour dopamine detox yesterday. Wow, I experienced clarity, a quiet mind the hunger wasn't actually an issue but cravings were from time to time. Drinking water was pleasant though. One thing I noticed is that the brain is smart and it will still try to get it's dopamine other ways. For instance when looked in the mirror, I smiled really big, and just smiling was super enjoyable for some reason. Or when I brushed my teeth, I felt this strong sense of accomplishment. It was like my brain had become more sensitive to the things that actually deserve that natural given dopamine rather than the artificial high of social media, porn, junk food and music. There's an inner beauty to life that we're missing out on with all the external distractions. I even got more clear in my business plans. Thanks for this video. I'm definitely gonna do this detox again one day.

    I have been postponing this from months and I'm finally about to do it, I'll edit this comment a day or 2 later to show the results probably
    Well, it was going good at start but minor mistakes were made, so I had to cancel it in the middle, but even with a few hours of dopamine detox I felt something different in my head, a feeling I had before I got introduced to all social media platforms and stuff, so I decided I'm going to do about half an hour or 1 hour of dopamine detox everyday which might be effective over a long time.

    Isn't this strangely exactly like the Sabbath should/used to be, a sabbath of the kind maybe only Orthodox Jews have nowdays, and also like a hardcore Islamic Ramadan, but of a kind that virtually no-one does. The Amish, and Christian monks in a hardcore old-school monastery, and meditation retreats of a Buddhist kind, all also spring to mind. It shows hormonal/psychological and behavioural benefits of things that the modern world laughed at and dismissed.

    • @JoinMrSmart
      @JoinMrSmart  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Indeed, the idea of a dopamine fast aligns with traditional practices like the Sabbath, and Ramadan, and the lifestyles of groups like the Amish and Christian monks. These practices emphasize reflection and mindfulness, and modern science is beginning to recognize their benefits in our fast-paced digital world.

    My understanding is that exercise creates dopamine. I'm an avid bicyclist and prefer it to walking. If I did some light biking would that be fine or should I stick exclusively to walking?

    • @JoinMrSmart
      @JoinMrSmart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both biking and walking can contribute to dopamine production through exercise. You can choose either activity based on your preference, as both have potential benefits for your brain and overall well-being. Keep enjoying your bicycling, as it's a valid and enjoyable way to promote dopamine release and support your health!

    I am very interested in doing this, but I have some questions :
    1. I am not really busy with my work, but it does require me to keep contact with my phone since i might get msgs and notifications anytime, and I need to respond immediately. so it's pretty impossible for me to totally get rid of the phone for 24hrs, I wonder if it's okay if I only use my phone for work but not for entertainment, is it still detox?
    2. I live with my family, me and my sibling share the same room, so it's too difficult for me to ignore them and not talking at all, so is it really important of no talking at all?
    3. on about no reading, I wonder does it mean no working? can I study or work?
    thank you so much.

    • @JoinMrSmart
      @JoinMrSmart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      During the dopamine detox, it's acceptable to use your phone solely for work and avoid entertainment-related activities. While striving to minimize unnecessary conversations, reducing external stimulation is the primary goal. Low-stimulation activities like studying or work that aren't entertainment-focused are permissible during the detox as long as high-dopamine activities are limited.

    • @JoinMrSmart
      @JoinMrSmart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      During a dopamine detox, engaging in 30-minute intense exercise, like a hike, is allowed as it promotes physical well-being and doesn't involve high dopamine activities. It can be a beneficial part of the detox process.

    sleeping is allowed in the 24 hours detox? also when you say walking, am I allowed to go to a trail and explore nature or just regular walking? if accidentally I see someone and talk for a short time, like hey hello how are you, is that ok or it should be really strict no talking?

    • @amirdehghani6284

      Absolutely! Sleeping is allowed during the 24-hour detox. You can explore nature on a trail during the "walking" phase. If you have a brief conversation with someone, that's fine - the key is reducing high-dopamine activities. Good luck on your dopamine detox journey!

    I like this idea. But I don’t get how doing one day of dopamine fasting every 6 months will solve your problems. Shouldn’t you be doing it more consistently?

    • @JoinMrSmart
      @JoinMrSmart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Consistency is key! While doing a dopamine fast for a day can provide a reset, incorporating regular, consistent habits to reduce high dopamine activities is crucial for long-term benefits and improved motivation. Consider incorporating more frequent, smaller dopamine detoxes into your routine for sustained results.
