I totally agree. It is my favorite of hers. It really shows off her vocal range in the bridge of the song. It's a must listen. I also agree the video is the way to go.

“The Legend of Billie Jean” was awesome! Especially being a teenager at the time it was released! This was a perfect anthem for it! LOVE LOVE LOVE Pat Benatar!!! Such an amazing “discography” she created!!! BTW, she has a background in Opera, so her vocal range and control is incredible!!! Thanks for brightening my spirits, like always! Rob Squad Rocks!!! 😎
It is also a movie that is still relevant today, the whole thing stemmed from an attempted sexual assault and feeling privileged and standing up against it. Me too before me too existed.
LOVE me some Pat Benatar! Great song! This is from the 1985 movie "The Legend Of Billie Jean", which starred Christian Slater and Helen Slater. It would be a great choice for Rob Squad Movie reactions, too!
I didn't know that! She has a fabulous voice. Like many, I first heard her in the smash hit "Love is a battlefield" and "Fire and Ice" but many of my favourite artists are female singer/songwriters. This is REAL MUSIC! No autotune. No tired samely melodies. Carefully crafted songs worth listening to.
Indeed, I've been asking for "Hell is for Children" for a very long time. Great song written for a great cause. Another rockin one, that everyone seems to have forgotten is "You Better Run". She's SO sassy in this one, really fun song..... it's just too short
She's had so many great songs like Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Treat Me Right, Fire and Ice, You Better Run, Hell Is For Children(a song about child abuse), and I Need a Lover!
They should be a side by side for "I Need A Lover. Giving their opinions on both the John Cougar and Pat Benatar versions. Basically what makes both versions great!
Ye her song Suffer The Little Children is a great one too, also about child abuse/trafficking. She combined it with Hell is for Children at a concert, loved it.
I remember when I saw The Legend of Billie Jean at the theater. It was a great movie and they played this song over the closing credits. I've loved it ever since. It was the second time that I liked a song played over the closing credits of a movie. The first time was Kenny Loggins- I'm Alright, played in the movie Caddyshack.
I remember this movie. It had Helen Slater and Christian Slater in it, even though they are not related. I think it was one of Christian Slater's first roles.
One of the best movies of the decade if you ask me. I didn’t see it til about 10 years after it debuted in the theaters, but definitely an 80s must see💯
This comes from the film, 'The Legend of Billie Jean' starring Helen Slater (the pretty blonde woman who changes hairstyles in the clips from the film during the video). It was a teen movie. Helen Slater was best known then (and today) for her connection to the DC Universe. Her first film role was as Kara Zor-El aka 'Supergirl' in the 1984 big-screen film, and later played the character's human mother in the CW-Arrowverse series 'Supergirl'. This was her second film after that, and while she has made many films, she has always really been a character actress with roles on TV and in films. 'The Legend of Billie Jean' was not a big success, but I believe turned a profit at the box office. It also starred actor Christian Slater...who is NOT related to Helen, even though he played her brother in the film. Christian would have a more successful film career and is now doing some amazing TV roles. Part of what makes Pat Benatar's voice so special is her training in opera/classical voice techniques. Truly one of rock's best voices...PERIOD!!!
Not only can she do Opera, she was also trained to be an opera singer. Rumor has it she tried out at amateur night at one of the famous punk clubs and bombed. She went and changed her style, then came back in stage, becoming Pat Benatar.
I know many will disagree, including Pat Benatar herself, but I think her cover is far better than the original. But that is because, no offense to her or her fans, I am not a fan of Kate Bush's voice.
The movie is “The Legend of Billie Jean.” A great movie from the 1980’s (though a little dark) filmed around the town I was born in Corpus Christi, TX. The scenes where they run through the mall are from Sunrise Mall which used to be a thriving place back in the 1980’s and is pretty much completely shut down now. A great nostalgic song for me! Thanks for reacting y’all!
“Hell is for Children” is not only a great song, but it was really important when it came out. Pat addresses a taboo topic and really started a national conversation.
Neil Giraldo is a musician, record producer, arranger, and songwriter. Started working with Pat in 1970. They are a musical power couple and devoted to one another. Neil and Pat have been married for 41 years 💖 (as of this year) and still going strong. Neil plays guitar, piano, drums and sings. 🎸😎
"Promises in the Dark" really rocks. "Fire and Ice" is another vocal journey from Pat. The live version of "I Need a Lover" is killer. So powerful from a band that was just starting to hit their stride. Recorded live in a small NY club, the mix is astounding for a late 70s live recording. Still my FAVORITE female rock voice of all time.
Pat Benatar is a FORCE her voice has power beyond sound, it makes you feel. she's only 5 foot tall so this lady is powerful and we're lucky to have had her make music One of my most favorite Hard Rockin' Women glad you love her too
Guys you need to hear Pat sing Hell is for Children. Super hard Pat especially live versions just blow the top off the place. More importantly this was a song dealing with the horrors of child abuse. You must listen as the lyrics are chilling but the song is beautiful. Her label and management said don’t release it. Pat released it. It truly shines a light on a topic that just wasn’t talked about much in public. What went on behind closed doors of a family home was nobodies business. Certainly wasn’t subject of songs or shows or movies at that time. This song helped bring the subject into the public discourse and still does. A courageous career move that has probably helped more victims than she will ever realize.
This was from around 85, one of the last of her big hits of the peak period of her career. Another favorite hit from this time period I think you’ll really like is “Sex as a weapon”, which was also one of her best music videos
She was the queen of rock & roll in the 80's. She was incredible with so many hit songs. She did a Harry Chapin song titled " Shooting Star." It was done at a Harry Chapin tribute concert with various artist singing the late great Harry Chapin songs. That is one you should react to. She sang her heart out in that song. She also gave a back story on how Harry Chapin helped to make her a rock star. Really awesome stuff...
one of the best female vocalists ever. I like her cover of the young rascals " you better run" a pulsating " never wanna leave you" and great drumming on " ooh ooh song"
One of the best, no doubt. She and her husband Neil Giraldo have created some of the best music from the 70's-80's. Saw them 4 yrs ago...still outstanding!
Amber & Jay, here are some other Pat Benatar songs to check out: "Promises In The Dark", "Little Too Late", "Hell Is For Children", "You Better Run", "No You Don't", and "I Need A Lover".
If you guys want to hear her vocals, listen to her sing “Don’t Let It Show”. It’s a slower song, but the vocals are absolutely insane. I get the chills every time I hear it.
Pat Benatar was the first rocker to speak out about child abuse which is the subject of her song 'Hell is for Children' She only became aware of child abuse after reading an article in the paper while in NYC. Her future husband wrote this song and together they started a foundation for abused children. It is a great song!
This song was a perfect anthem for the rebellious film “The Legend of Billie Jean”. Pat Benetar has one of those generational voices. Sends chills throughout my body as I’m listening. She’s indescribable. I won’t hold my breath for the film reaction but I’ll still keep my fingers crossed. I think Amber, especially, will appreciate it.
Speaking of genre bending, Pat Benatar actually had a Blues album in the early nineties called “True Love” and the title track was a single with a video. The album is my favorite of hers even though I love her rock music as well.
Always willing to listen to some classic Pat Benatar. Being classically trained as a mezzo-soprano she can certainly hit and sustain those high. She is one lady that rocks. Great choice guys. Cheers, Paul 😁👍📀❤️
classic benatar. this was a big hit for her. the girl can sing and epitomized the 1980's strong female rocker chic. love her. love you guys, too. check ya on the next. peace and love y'all.
I was going to suggest this song after I realized I had it on a playlist here. Here are some suggestions: - I Found Someone - Cher - Blame It On The Boogie - The Jacksons - Torture - The Jacksons - They Don't Care About Us - Michael Jackson - In The Closet - Michael Jackson - Speed Demon - Michael Jackson - Remember the Time - Michael Jackson - Leave Me Alone - Michael Jackson - Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ernie Ford - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle (Loretta Lynn's sister)
It was my great pleasure to have attended the first three Pat Benatar tours to come to Minnesota in the early '80's, she and the band never disappointed.
This is my fav Pat Benatar song. I wasn't rebellious as a teen, my life was music with Casey Kasem weekly and saving cash to buy my cassettes or blanks to record on them.
This song is from a movie called The legend of Billie Jean it's a great movie you should look up and try to watch it it's got Christian Slater and his sister Helen great 80s movie I think Amber will really
Actually, Christian and Helen are not related in real life. Christian joked about how when he was making this film, if he'd married Helen she'd not need to change her name!
From IMDB " Helen Slater has frequently had to tell fans that she and Christian Slater are not related. The misconception has been around for years, entirely because they played brother and sister in this film. (In addition, Helen Slater is Jewish while Christian Slater is not.)" He did have a crush on her though.
I remember when she was called the "Queen" of rock...but my "QUEEN" of rock is and always will be JANIS! Pat has good classically trained voice, Ann Wilson is no one's pushover!!
Considering I graduated high school in 1983, Pat was definitely my generation's queen. We loved Heart too but they were kind of in between their 70s and 80s phases of their career when Pat came on the scene.
A lesser known song that I love is a duet between Pat Benatar and Sheryl Crow called "I Shall Believe." It was never recorded and released, but they performed it live once and its on youtube. Pat elevates that song to the next level.
The Movie is called "The Legend of Billie Jean" - Great female empowerment movie, also starring the actress that does the voice of Lisa from "The Simpsons".
I always thought this track had a distinct Prince influence... especially noticable in the extended bridge ...btw...the story of Pat Benatar and her husband/co-writer/lead guitarist Neil Giraldo is a pretty special one... they've been married since 1982... definitely one of the coolest couples in rock
We saw Pat in concert with Toto and she can still belt those songs out! I know you have heard her perform "Love is a Battlefield", which reached #1 in Australia, the Netherlands, and on the US Rock Tracks chart in 1983. Pat's husband is her lead guitarist, Neil Geraldo. The pair worked together to create 15 hits that reached the Top 40, won four consecutive Grammys, and sold 36 million albums over a 40-year career. Maybe, Amber, you are thinking of Heart (Ann Wilson) or K.D. Lang, who is to me the best female singer of all time.
If you want the rocking side you MUST do Promises in the Dark. It's a banger.
The video version is the absolute best!!!!!
I totally agree. It is my favorite of hers. It really shows off her vocal range in the bridge of the song. It's a must listen. I also agree the video is the way to go.
Yes, also “Hell is for Children”
Yes! Promises is nice! I'm gonna be bold and recommend a minor, forgotten 80's hit [#64 on the Hot 100; 12 on the rock chart] "Talk to Me" by Fiona. And, no, it's not a Stevie Nicks cover.
Agreed! It really shows off her range and rock vocal skills,
“The Legend of Billie Jean” was awesome! Especially being a teenager at the time it was released! This was a perfect anthem for it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Pat Benatar!!! Such an amazing “discography” she created!!! BTW, she has a background in Opera, so her vocal range and control is incredible!!!

Powerful movie I feel gets overlooked.
Was thinking the same thing.
Agreed, a must see. The movie is very "80's' ...not that's there's anything wrong with that!
I saw this movie a whole buncha times in the 80s!
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", "You Better Run" and "Treat Me Right" !!!
From that 1st album!

Yes all three of those for sure!
Yes, "Treat me right" is another of my all-time favorites of hers!

Pat's "You Better Run" was the second video played on day one of MTV.
Pat is a rock and roll goddess.
Pat benatar was a trained soprano. Opera. That's why she has such a cool unique voice
And I remember hearing that she screamed to break the Opera training
I didn't know that! She has a fabulous voice. Like many, I first heard her in the smash hit "Love is a battlefield" and "Fire and Ice" but many of my favourite artists are female singer/songwriters. This is REAL MUSIC! No autotune. No tired samely melodies. Carefully crafted songs worth listening to.
It is 100% true what you wrote! But Pat can still belt out a LOUD growl from her throat cause she's a ROCKER at heart, operatic training or not!!
Not many people know about her classical training. Really a beautiful voice too. But she wanted to ROCK!
She really hits that soprano with Wuthering Heights. I love her version of that song.
Absolutely Pat is one of the best females ever!! ❤️ Next up listen to Hell is for Children! My favorite😍
Hell is for Children is such a tough song lyrically, so I agree this is the next logical choice for a reaction video
Yes! Absolutely you should do that one next! ❤❤
Dark song
@douglasseebergh536 it's a hard song, when Pat Benatar sang it, the song brought out a sad situation no one wanted to talk about.

Also Yeardly Smith who does the voice of Lisa Simpson on the Simpsons cartoon .
"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by her was a sports anthem for a time. "You Better Run" is a rocker.
"Invincible" peaked @ #10 in 1985. It was Benatar's last Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Keep digging into her history. She’s got incredible gems throughout! Great video 👍🏼
Pat Benatar can do opera as well. Her cover of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" is like rock opera.
Not only can she do Opera, she was also trained to be an opera singer. Rumor has it she tried out at amateur night at one of the famous punk clubs and bombed. She went and changed her style, then came back in stage, becoming Pat Benatar.
Much like Linda Ronstadt!

Yes! Janis is my Queen...for me Pat is in the Top 5. Janis, Linda Ronstadt, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks and Pat.
@@CrayCruz all amazing singers and i honestly really love them all. I'm also a major Kate Bush Fan too. Benatar and Stevie are my top 2.
A lesser known song that I love is a duet between Pat Benatar and Sheryl Crow called "I Shall Believe." It was never recorded and released, but they performed it live once and its on youtube. Pat elevates that song to the next level.
I was born January 1970 I grew up, listening to Pat. Benatar and I was like obsessed with her. I love her so much! Every song she did was just amazing
The Movie is called "The Legend of Billie Jean" - Great female empowerment movie, also starring the actress that does the voice of Lisa from "The Simpsons".
"Promises in the Dark" is a rocker!
She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just last year.
Her AND Neil Giraldo were inducted together. Let's not forget Neil! In reality, Pat is not a solo act- it is a wife and husband duo.
@@aaradia I would never forget Neil. He's from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.🎸
I always thought this track had a distinct Prince influence... especially noticable in the extended bridge
...btw...the story of Pat Benatar and her husband/co-writer/lead guitarist Neil Giraldo is a pretty special one... they've been married since 1982... definitely one of the coolest couples in rock
Yass!!! More Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, the Runaways, Heart and the Go-Go's for Female Fridays!!!
From the soundtrack to the movie The Legend of Billie Jean, starring Helen Slater. Great film and an even better soundtrack. Fantastic song choice.
