The drummer is Myron "T-Rex" Grumbacher. I met one of his friends (Greg Bissonette) from the Woodlands Hills drum club at a drum clinic in Madison, WI. He mentioned Myron during his clinic, so I hung behind the crowd getting autographs. When I got to see him, I asked if he knew Myron, because Myron was the reason I switched from playing bass to drums, and he replied "yeah, he's my best friend". He asked me to pardon him for a sec, and walked to the back. I thought he was going to duck out on me. But he came back out and told me to follow him to a room in the back. He had Myron on the phone, and I can still remember him saying "Hey Myron, you won't believe this, somebody besides me knows who you are, and he lives in Wisconsin." Anyways, I got to talk to him for a bit and found out a lot, like why he left the band (Kids), etc. Both he and his friend Greg were totally chill and nice as hell.
I was also a big Myron fan. I saw him in Hampton VA in the early 80’s with the white kit shown in the Promises video. Absolutely became a huge fan of his playing style and stage presence. The whole ban was extremely tight, and perfect for her vocals and singing style. Glad you got a chance to talk to him and hear his story. I met another drummer hero of mine, Larrie Londin, at a clinic in Fairfax, VA - right before he passed. It’s very cool when guys like Greg, Myron and Larrie take the time to just hang out and share their experiences. Real pros - not just rock stars.
I'm 64yrs old and you have to be pretty old to remember Hell is For Children. Her first hit on the radio and haven't heard it played in YEARS, very rarely is it ever mentioned when talking about her music. I know it's a hard topic but it really makes you think. Considering our current world right now in many cases hell is for children could be very relevant now. My #1 song of hers always has been always will be.
Well she’s in and now a lot of us know. She wasn’t going in, unless they included her husband Neil Giraldo (guitarist). The RRHOF finally gave in to her demands.
She was a perfectionist. She made sure everybody in that band was on the ball. She married the guitar player but had no mercy for mistakes. It had to be tight and perfect. That is the mind of a true performer. She was relentless about perfection. I saw her live once and it was perfect. Like listening to an album except for the added live components.
Her range was always amazing. Saw her live in 81. A concert I will never forget, her guitarist/husband/producer is amazing as well. He always knew how to challenge her to new and amazing levels. Plus he can absolutely kill it on the guitar. Vastly under-rated but a brilliant player.
I am so glad you are discovering one of the greatest voices in rock. She has no match as far as I'm concerned. She now opens the door for so many contemporary singers, and they owe her a hell of a debt. I grew up listening to Pat Benatar and many others of her generation back then. I was a teenager during the 80s, so I'm thankful I could experience all of this growing up. I'm so glad you are discovering what actual singing is and what true rock and roll is keep it up. Heartbreaker is one of my favorites.
1981/1982, my junior year of high school and Pat Benatar was riding huge on the radio with this song. She is one of my very favorite singers, period. She got me through a lot of crap from my parents with songs like this (abusive home). Her music rang so true with me. This song still sends chills up my spine. I do love Pat Benatar, and yes, her band is spot on awesome.
Pat Benatar is a classically trained singer and that's why her vocals are excellent. Back in those days Hard Rock and Roll was a male-dominated industry. She was respected for her musicality when her music came out. Pat Benatar is definitely one of all times greats in ROCK and ROLL. This song is one of my favorites growing up.
Pat is a powerhouse vocalist and is still performing with her husband of 40 years who happens to be the guitarist in this video. You should check out their recent live performances here on TH-cam.
I just saw this hall of fame singer last week along with her hall of fame husband of 44 years, Neil Giraldo (the lead guitarist). Absolutely killer talent. Still rockin'!
Man that voice! Saw her on Don Kirshners Rock Concert late one night when I was about 14 and my friends and I were instant fans. She has such power and range, and her backing band is stellar across the board. Neil and Myron especially are very underrated.
GJ on the reaction. Pat is the greatest singer of her generation. She set the standard for what it means to be the female lead singer. First female rock video on MTV. Should of been in the hall of fame a long time ago. When she finally gets in I want to hear that speech. May sound like FU, FU, and FU.
I am lucky enough to have seen Pat in concert in 1998. It was in a small venue and she was with her husband who is the guitar player you see in this video. She is amazing. Her voice sounded like the studio album version. First song was “Treat Me Right” and she had everyone in the room in the palm of her hand.
I'm sure you already know this but from a very very young age she was trained as an opera singer. Thank you for reacting to the greatest vocalist of all time
Drummer Myron Grombacher has always been a crazy little dynamo even when he was with Rick Derringer. I had the pleasure of seeing him with Rick in 1978 ..... his antics etched in my mind, as I had just started playing drums the previous year. I was like, that dude is awesome!!
So glad she finally got inducted as well as her husband in the R&R HofF . But I’ve got one for y’all. Coming; born and raised in NOLA. Check out the band “ Zebra “ there are so many great songs but as an introduction to their style check out “ Tell Me What You Want “ . We saw her twice a few years back. Smaller venues and she still sounded great! Best thing her and her husband (guitar player) been together about 40 years now. It was a great show both times. Watching their interactions on stage you could tell they were still madly in love. My wife and I loved that as much as anything about the show. We've been together 37 yrs now, so we appreciate the struggle.
One of my favorite Pat B videos... And so glad to here people talking about the band... The guitar... and yes, what about that drummer... All amazing!!!
Your facial expressions watching this video/song was totally worth it! You guys were literally smiling ear to ear! Lol! Great music and Pat Benatar is so amazingly talented!
I adore Pat!!! I have followed her music since I was about 10 (49 now gulp!) because my big brother was into metal and used to buy Kerrang - a British rock magazine. One issue had a free single of this song and I was hooked! Thanks :)
I went to see Styx before Dennis De Young left Styx. It was one of the best concerts that I have seen. Pat Benatar opened and she and her hubby was great! They did an acoustic concert! They have been together so long I think it’s great! I think the show was in 97.
Pat started out as an Opera Singer. Her father wanted her to remain in Opera. Her fight with her Father about it prompted the title "Love is a battlefield".
One of the greatest female vocalists of all time!! Her choice to sing rock cost her her family and that is hard! They paid for her vocal training to be an opera singer but she loved rock and roll. She left home on bad terms and went for it. She made it big! To this day she does not speak to her father. He is most likely gone now and I am sure that funeral was a tough one for her. She loved her family but her father did not like her singing rock and roll. The guilt of making him mad and her love for him must have been hard as hell on that sad day. Going your own way is the right of every person. Her father wanted something different and was mad as hell about her choice but he still loved her. How could any father not love their child? I would not want to be her on that day when he was laid to rest. It must have been so hard for her.
She was trained in opera. That's why she has range to go high and sing softly. She's a powerhouse
This is one of my favorite Pat Benatar songs. I grew up during this time I thought she was the biggest bad ass ever. I freaking love this woman
2024 and the girl still has the pipes!
Pat, Ann Wilson are two that will never be replaced
Pat isnt dead yet. mate.
That “ 1234… DARK!” At the ending is my favorite part
Same...!
More than a few of us had “a thing” for Pat Benetar in our youth. She was such a talent and at the time an anomaly as a female rocker.
I know I did. I was 14 when she did this hbo special
I have a couple things for Pat: a double hamburger and a protein shake
Was??? She still is.
Had two of her posters over my bed in the barracks. When I transferred I left them behind… stupid
Her and Phoebe Cates
Pat Benatar holds the historic honor of being the first female music artist to have a video on MTV
lol
Her husband Neil Giraldo is her lead guitarist. They been married since 1982.
Neil is a hottie
They were a hell of a live show back in the 80's!

Hell is for Children is another great song by Pat Benatar ✌️
Yes...Very moving!! 💜

@@tinamarcum6170That wasn't her first hit.
How she didn’t get into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last year is beyond me. I started listening to her music in the 70s and still like her music
I don't even think she got nominated, right? How is this possible?
@@graymouser6599 she was nominated but the supposedly people who deem who’s worthy didn’t think she was. Shameful I think

Congrats to her and the band Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year…
They Finally got inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame !!!🤗
Probably the best female artist of the 80's, certainly my favorite. Been a long time since I've seen this classic. Thanks!
She was a perfectionist. She made sure everybody in that band was on the ball. She married the guitar player but had no mercy for mistakes. It had to be tight and perfect. Pat kicked so much ass back then and is still kicking it to this day. You go 🤘🏼
We had a lot of good music when I was Growing up. Pat Benatar has a 4.5 Octave Range. Pat is a petite woman with a huge voice

It should be a mandatory for everyone to own a Pat Benatar album. I have all of them, they are all great.
The I'm all set. I've lost count of how many I own!
.me too, Love Pat!
well said. well said...
I'm not sure I agree. Some people don't deserve them.
Innamorata and Go are fairly weak. Strawberry Wine, Sorry and Christmas in America are good. The rest of the songs are mediocre.
You two are so respectful…
Listen to the "echoe" of the guitar its to rad and awesome
Grombacher is a beast on the drums...
Pat benatar is The Queen of rock all The Times !!!!
Fire and Ice - her best vocal work!
Pat Benetar was so underrated . One of the best ever.
Pat and Neil are still touring! Go see them!
That was Awsome !

MY FAVORITE PAT BENETAR SONG!!! REALLY SHOWS HER VOCAL RANGE!!!
Her best! And probably the best female rock performance! AND the guitar solo is TOP NOTCH too!
The Talent is OFF THE CHART!!!
I just saw this hall of fame singer last week along with her hall of fame husband of 44 years, Neil Giraldo (the lead guitarist). Absolutely killer talent. Still rockin'!
Who doesn't love Pat Benatar one of the few women who opened many doors for leading ladies up front on stage, just so classic
I remember seeing this when I was a very young teenager. It was an HBO special. Boy was she 🔥

This came out when I was a teenager, and I really didn't think too much about the lyrics. But now that I'm older, I can totally relate to the them...
She can sing ? SHE'S A GODESS IN ROCK 🎸🎸💥💥💥💥❤️❤️❤️ LOVE HER
Myron! And hubby Spider! Great band backing one of the best ever.

Actually the 2nd video MTV ever played was Pat's, but the song was "You Better Run", which is also a rockin tune.
Wide awake in dreamland and gravities rainbow are freaking awesome over looked albums by Pat.
Pat Benatar has an opera voice. Very few can reach those type of high notes. Combine her singing rock music, game over. She’s pure gold.
Pat benatar has a voice!
