Surprised you haven't had Pat Benatar before this. Her harder hits are: "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Treat Me Right," "Fire and Ice," "Invincible," and her softer hits include "Shadows of the Night," "Love Is A Battlefield," and "We Belong."

Why does it have to be termed or phrased harder hits ? Why is there this assumption that everybody wants something that's hard fast crazy and all over the place. There are people out here who love hard rock that is melodic. But I guess it's not cool hip and edgy to think and speak that way.

@@darrinashby9019 Yes. Ann Wilson has a 3.5 octave range, with full control at both ends; Pat Benatar has a somewhat broader range: 4 to 4.5, again with excellent control at both extremes. Those two women show that range, per se, is not the main criterion for vocal excellence. Another female vocalist with a 3.5 octave range who had complete control throughout is Karen Carpenter.

Yeah, Pat Benatar is a Rock Star! She trained as an Opera singer early on. Hubby Neil Giraldo is also a big part of the story. Neil was playing with Rick Derringer's band when in 1979 Producer/Writer, Mike Chapman called him up as he was looking for someone to team up with Pat.
Her words... "I signed to Chrysalis Records and the company put together a group of studio musicians. We were putting things together and doing demos with wonderful studio musicians. It just wasn’t raunchy enough. It wasn’t rock enough. I mean, it sounded beautiful, but it wasn’t what I meant. I met with Mike Chapman a few times and I told him what I was trying to do, so he said he had a guy. So, Spyder came down the day I was doing auditions for the other band members and just came so we’d meet. He was already too accomplished to audition. He came in with everybody else. I didn’t know he was there. Someone told me Neil Giraldo was there, but I didn’t turn back.
Then, I heard someone behind me say, “Hey, man, can I borrow your axe?” And I thought, oh my gosh, he didn’t even bring his guitar? I was ready to turn around and skewer him. Then I saw him and that was the end of that. My brain literally shut down, the rest of my body lit up on fire. I tried to compose myself, like “What the hell are you doing?” I was madly in love with him. I composed myself, shook his hand, and he got on stage to play the most unbelievable guitar chord I have ever heard. I wouldn’t have worked with him if he hadn’t been the right guy, the right guitar player, but he was exactly what I was looking for."

Two songs to recommend that aren't among Pat's regularly chosen by fans, one just her and another as a duet.
All Fired Up - really shows the grit in her voice. Totally undervalued song.
Independence Day - originally released by Country and Western singer Martina McBride. Country and Western TV (CWT) did a series of programmes that showcased singers and groups but went outside the box and included duets. And they teamed Martina and Pat for a show, allowing both women to sing come of the others catalogue, for a total of 8 songs. Both women stormed this one song. Great lyrics, great tune, two absolute powerhouses smashing it.

How does that voice and power come from such a tiny woman. Before I die I need a duet with Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson. Niel is also such an underrated guitarist (and Pat's husband), he fills in so much sound with such a small band.

Just to let you know this was truly a live show although i could not tell you the venue of this show. However, we saw her on this same tour at the Palace in Houston Dec 17, 1979. Oddly i was only there because i had seen their promo poster the week before because there was no radio promo for the show. There were only about 10 people in the whole club maybe because it was a cold and wet Monday night but when the band came out on stage Pat announced that since we paid money to see them that they were going to do the show. It was a great show as you could see and after the show the band came down and mingled with the us. Played pinball with her and the bass player the rest of the night while my girlfriend was off probably with the rest of the band. It was a great time for music in America. Thanks for the review.

    Yes, they are special.

2nd fave Pat song. My favorite is All Fired Up. Shocked you never heard of her. She has tons and tons of hits and one of the best if not THE best rock female vocalist. BIG rabbit hole to go down. Please do more!

Love Pat, saw her live in '83. She has lots of great songs, but there is a live version of Invinsible I find particularly good from sometime around 2000. Hope u check it out.

Pat Benetar was THE rock chick in the 80's. One of only a few on the radio and the biggest. The guitarist is her husband I believe. Pat was a classically trained opera singer who wanted to rock. Her vocals are incredible. As a girl in the 80's she was a hero and I had all her albums and saw her in concert several times. Fire!
Other songs: Heartbreaker, Treat Me Right, Hit Me with Your Best Shot (her biggest song), We Belong, Hell is For Children, Wuthering Heights (remake of Kate Bush song), Love is a Battlefield.

Pat Benetar was one of my first pre-teen crushes. LOL!! Her voice rings like a bell. I saw her in concert live two times. The guitarist is her husband, and I know that they've been married since the early 80s and still going strong... proving spouses can work well together and stay married. LOL!

Saw her twice during my days in the Navy in the 80s where she was on top of her game. She was trained as an opera singer in her youth and has a 4 plus octave range in her prime.

Absolute best Power Duo in Pat and Neil Gerardo (Lead Guitarist) they have been married over 40 yrs. Pat was classically trained in Opera before switching to Rock, and we are all better for it. Drummer Myron Grombacher is a beast on the drum kit. Band is perfection live. Loved your reaction we all felt the same way when we seen them the first time way back when MTV started early 80s. They are still performing and still sound awesome!

Her most recognizable hit is "Hit me With Your Best Shot." I think that "We Belong" and "Love is a Battlefield" are probably better songs. Those were also giant hits. The guitar player is her husband, and he was well-known. They're still married, and they still tour together. They played Austin City Limits last year.

Seen her in concert. Her songs are that clean!!! Amazing performer and one of my favorite groups. Her husband Neil is the main composer and lead guitarist. Fun fact! Neil is the guitarist in the song Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield. Neil and Pat were recording next door to Rick and the producer wasn't happy with the way Rick was playing his own song. He went next door and grabbed Neil who knocked it right out! Lol

Both Pat and her husband on lead guitar, Neil Gerardo were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year or so ago. Althought Pat was classically trained as an opera singer she's a hard rocker. This performance is a banger. Thank you. She has a ton of hits.
