    So much right about this one, but yet it doesn't float my boat. If you like the looks or do indeed ref sports on the weekends then go for it. If you don't then you may as well buy the slightly cooler AE1200 that James Bond most definitely didn't wear. Cheers, Jody

      Vario do a lovely set of leather straps just for the "Royal" so I guess they would fit this perfectly also. It is odd paying the same for a strap as the actual watch but it is 20GBP well spent for the fun of it. I do rate the strap. Richard

    Personally, I think the three circular sections are the most useful part. If I want an interval timer I'll just use my phone, but if I'm just giving single sets of timed exercises it will be in 10 second increments. So I could easily time a class doing 20 seconds of burpees with little to no hassle, rather than counting in my head or faffing around with a timer

    I love this! It was my gym watch and daily wear for years until the strap broke. It wasn’t economical to replace so I put it to rest. The best thing about it was the water resistant and the countdown timer that you can set to repeat at certain intervals. So it was great for boxing training to simulate real ring time and rest time. Best interval timer.

    Interval timer may be niche, but combined with a feature I didn't see mentioned in the video or comments makes it indispensable for me... that being the INTERVAL COUNTER. As a swimmer doing multiple reps of 50, 100 or 200m sets, the counter has become essential in keeping track of how many I've completed during my workouts. I have two of these watches, bought a second as a back up but have never needed to use it in the pool as the first is nearly 10 years old, has always worked flawlessly and is still on its first battery (perhaps I'm not working out often enough).

    I love this watch. I don't think it's niche at all. To me it is a watch for certain type of professionals, who are always on a very strict time schedule, where every minute is important. It's also a great referee watch, of course, but for doctors, or cooks in a restaurant, or even parents (and that's the hardest work in the world), the countdown timer can be a great ally. Even those circles are well thought. Sometimes your hands are busy and you can't press the buttons to set the timer. Being able to look at the watch and know (without looking at the numbers) how far you've gone on your 10-minutes-by-10-minutes time you have in your mind is useful as you are a doctor (or a med student) in hospital, or doing meal prep, when you have to check multiple dishes you are preparing at the same time. The busier you are, and the most time efficient you have to be, the more you appreciate the watch. It is well thought even on details that look useless at first sight, like the circles.

    At first glance I thought it was the 1200 in the thumbnail and thought Jody was finally driven mad by all of the beeping Casios, lol. Gotta love Casio! If you're into boxing, this one is great: set a 3min then 1min interval on repeat and it'll count out rounds for you while you punch away on a heavy bag (it counts the number of rounds too). Pretty brilliant for the price. I've just ordered the new AE1500 with the massive display -- I've always wanted a watch that looked like the one Sandra Bullock wears in Gravity (despite the fact that I don't think an LCD would work on an EVA, but whatever); everything available so far just didn't look right or was crazy expensive: until now! Thanks, Casio!

    Best interval and stopwatch function out there. I also own the AE-1200 and the WS-1000 . AE-1200 is my travel watch, WS-1000 is great if I just want to simple countdown timer. AE-1300 is just awesome for Gym work for complex work out / rest interval training. Plus I love it when my mates show off their flash chronographs and I bring out the AE-1300 and go peak geek over the timing options. It is niche.....but there is nothing better out there if you are interested in timing things. May be the Timex ironman endure 30 comes close but that is twice the price. The AE-1300 is the John Paul Jones of the Casio "LCD zeppelin" , DW-290-1V is the Jimmy page , The AE-1200 is the Robert plant, and the BW5600 is of course the John Bonham.

    Those LCD circles are annoying! However, at $20 this watch is so cheap it might make a good "Beater Watch"!

  • @KabobHope
    @KabobHope 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think most people's (mine included) first impression of this watch is wondering wft all those circles are for. You get an idea of the what all the complications are on the 1200 just by looking at it. That's the reason for the popularity of the the 1200 vs this.

    I still can’t figure out how to use the stop watch on mine, but aesthetically I like this one a little more than the World Time. Got mine April 2020 for $11.52 on Amazon. That return on investment is in Daytona territory 🤣 (percentage-wise of course)

    It’s a very weird niche function to the watch! It’s not easy to use as understand straight away (not if you had no idea it was a referee timer!!)
    Still cool though!! All the best Jody!!!

    If you knew I bought the AE1300WH8, the same one with grey casing, just for the three circles, and for just $14.50 NIB.

    I'd love to see you do a review of the Casio MQ-24. Probably the most simplistic, bog standard, government issue watches out there. It is the Dacia Sandero of watches. 3 hands, easy to read dial. Absolutely nothing that you don't need. £8 on Amazon thank you very much. Definitely one of my favourite watches

    The triclops eyes make the dial look busy? How about those Byzantine functions? The only group of people who number fewer than the knowledgeable users of this watch, are the people who read “Infinite Jest.”

    Wow, I wish I heard of this when I was refereeing soccer (football). I retired a few years back but it looks like an ideal first (or second) ref watch. Without actually owning the watch I would guess it might give a good quick visual indication when time ends without watching the seconds.

    I've been aware of these siblings to the AE1200 (of which I'll probably get one quite soon), and I've never been a fan of the design of these. But I can understand people getting them just for those niche timing functions. And of course still 100m water resistant, sturdy and over all very well built for this great price.

    BTW, waitging for a water resistant watch capable of resisting 1000 meters. Less than that does not work for me even if my daily excurtions to water are only to the shower. I want to be certain the shower will not damage it.

  • @Csibu89
    @Csibu89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    that top portion of the dial is just so useless, while the ae1200 is actually a good complication with the visual representation of the home time and the world time timezones.

  • @sped6954
    @sped6954 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    8:47 It just makes the dial look a little busy. Interesting, but I would have said that it makes it look a little Chinesey. Those three dials are precisely what turns me off to this watch. The only reason I would ever even consider one is because of its identical size and shape to the AE1200, and the fact that it's available in colors that the 1200 isn't, so I'd basically be buying it to do color swaps and for having extra bands and batteries on hand. Other than that, the module and the display masking would go straight to the garbage.

    The 1200WH can act as a very useful at-a-glance GMT. Put your local time as the designated world time in the main display and your GMT time in the analogue display.

    Just for fun I bought an incredible cheap chinese watch, a "Yazoole". I have it for 24 hours and still works!! It is amazing how this people produce glaring things at such low cost. Of course, quality is proportional, but i am prepared anyway to trash the thing in a week or so if it by chance still works by then... I would like our friend here refers sometimes at these chinese factories.....
