    You are a genius! You’re the first person to give a practical solution to the inner ring smell.

    I was so worried about how to clean the lid the right way. This was my biggest problem ( I am still a beginner). But your video helped me so much!

    I used it once to make a stew. Now the gasket smells horrible. I've used vinegar and baking soda. Washed it with super hot water and soap. Boiled it in a baking soda, water mix for twenty minutes. Washed in the dishwasher. Can't get the smell out.

      Sorry to hear that, I would try popping the lid (or at least the sealing ring) in the freezer overnight to see if that helps.

      You can order back up ones from amazon! There are 3 packs for $10 on there. I use one for meats/etc and one for sweet foods

    Hiya I'm nervous to pull off the sealing venting lever on my ip sv also in my pot there are some black (almost marks) inside that i literally can't remive should i worry about this ? Many Thanks :)

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rachel! For the black marks, try using steel cool to clean your inner pot. If inside the vessel, if they are small and not raised marks and no smell when cooking, I wouldn't worry.

    Hey, have you tried the cooking the inner ring in the oven method that others do with silicone product? My friend hates the Instant Pot due to the odor. I got a Vevor water distiller with the same smell seal. Found 250'F for 20 minute intervals until smell subsides. This other Reddit post states 300F for 60 minutes. I laid an aluminum foil on the rack and put it right on top of the foil in the oven. Within 10 minutes I could smell the curry. My husband asked me if I was cooking something with curry. After 30 minutes I smelled the ring and it still smelled bad. Another 30 minutes and I could still smell it. The smell was there but not as bad. I decided that it was hopeless. I was gonna try to wash it in the dishwasher after it cooled I then realized the smell was completely gone once it cooled. I guess baking it helped “evaporate” the smell because my kitchen smelled like curry afterwards. Figured check to see if you found anything new? I'll try in the freezer storing as well. Thanks as usual.

      I have not tried the baking method. That seems like a long time to bake a silicone ring! But thank you for sharing. I really love the freezer method and soaking in vinegar/baking soda.

    I just got an instant pot mini from someone else and that ring reeks of beef stew. I am running the pot on steam with 3 cups of water in the bowl, as in the start up instructions, but with a good amount of baking soda dissolved in the water. Once the cycle is completed, I'm going to leave the lid on overnight and see if that gets rid of the smell. I wonder if owning two rings, one for smelly foods and another one for your more delicately scented foods would be a good idea. Sometimes you think you lid looks clean once your dish is complete, but actually harbors some odors too. Washing the entire lid seems to help with the odor issue too.

    Mine has no condensation cup. I wonder why? I have soaked the ring in baking soda and vinegar, only to have the smell return once it gets hot again. I blame cheap fabrication materials. After decades of cooking and canning with pressure cookers, I have never had a problem with the gaskets getting smelly.

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Baking soda and vinegar is a great way to clean your sink and garbage disposal. I recently had fruit flies (I don't know where, exactly, they came from). The fruit flies were concentrated near my sink drain and disposal, so I put baking soda in the sink and down the disposal, then put vinegar on top of the baking soda - voila' fruit flies GONE~!

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is one of my favorite cleaning combinations.

  • @aprilf862
    @aprilf862 ปีที่แล้ว

    So when you use a denture tablet to clean the ring, don't you think that when you cook with it again you'll have that denture cleaner soaked into your ring and I'm not sure that would be a good thing to have cooking with your food

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand your concern. But if you think about it, dentures are worn in your mouth. Cleaning with a denture tablet and then rinsing well should be fine.

    • @AMindFullMom

      A couple reasons, one the freezer does help to absorb the smell. BUT it also helps for the smell not to disappate into the kitchen.

    I’m sorry to say you lost me at using that kitchen sponge thing. Sponges are a horrible idea - they hold every germ in the kitchen and you then spread them to everything you touch with them. They can possibly be sanitized but I don’t know anyone who does that. It’s gross.

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I agree with you that sponges carry so many germs. I sanitize after every use and should have noted that.

  • @donnak3683
    @donnak3683 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What a joke. And when you can’t get smell out of ring - which, if you use any real amount of spice, you can’t - well, just order more and throw the old one in the garbage. Hey, they’re cheap! (Shaking head in disgust.) Think instant pot needs to go back to drawing board and fix their design flaws.
